Kentucky clerk Kim Davis in secret meeting with Pope Francis, report says
by Calla Wahlquist for the The Guardian
Kim Davis, the Kentucky county court clerk who spent five days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, is reported to have had a private meeting with the pope during his historic US tour.
According to a statement posted on the website of Christian lobby group the Liberty Council, Pope Francis met Davis and her husband, Joe, at the Vatican’s Washington DC embassy on Thursday. The statement carries the stamp of the Liberty Council’s founder and chairman, Matt Staver, who is acting as Davis’s lawyer in her dispute with the court.
The statement, which is based on a report from Inside The Vatican, says that the pope thanked Davis for her “courage” and told her to “stay strong”. He then said he would pray for her and presented both her and her husband with a rosary, the Liberty Council claimed.
Davis is then quoted as saying that she was “humbled” by the experience: “I never thought I would meet the pope. Who am I to have this rare opportunity? I am just a county clerk who loves Jesus and desires with all my heart to serve him.”
“Pope Francis was kind, genuinely caring, and very personable,” her statement continued. “He even asked me to pray for him. Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong’.”
The Vatican has not responded to the reports.
Staver, who founded the Liberty Council in 1989, linked the meeting to the pontiff’s comments about conscientious objection, which prompted a flurry of speculation about whether the pope was referring to Davis.
“Not only did Pope Francis know of Kim Davis, he personally met with her to express his support,” Staver said.

United NATIONS
United Nations |
I don't know if an assembly of us would be as overwhelming as we think. The deep feeling is that we are a conquered people and treated as such. Things cannot escalate into an armed confrontation. We'd be outgunned and outmanned. But, if solidarity between the tribes in various ways leading toward a massive assault of logic and fundamental approaches to law that kind of force would be enough for nervousness. Maybe something would come of it! In the past it has worked in different eras. What would happen in these times for the nation to hear from 'invisible' people? - Gregory E Woods Keeper of Stories (9/26/15)

Strong White Women?
Sarah Palin's revision of a Dr. Seuss classic - 'I do not like this Uncle Sam. I do not like his healthcare scam...' |
For some decades it was inconceivable for me to envision white women as powerful. Surprisingly, it was the series, Xenia: the Warrior Princess that nudged me towards accepting such a possibility. My son, Lemuel, was young at the time and both of us fell out laughing at the absurdity of a white woman in battle on a television show! It was hilarious! But, admiring her agility and her incredible thighs the second episode we saw had us transfixed not only to Lucy Lawless' body and the story links to ancient mythologies, but Lucy Lawless' fierce spirit seemed close to the warrior stories of Celtic women in combat the ancient Romans faced and later wrote about.

"You know, there's nothing damnable about being a strong woman. The world needs strong women." -Ginger Rogers, actress
"While white people always distance the past from the present, like Nancy Grahn at the Emmys tweeting that “it’s 2015 what does Harriet Tubman have to do with anything” - at the end of a lecture going through pieces of evidence about the enslaved African’s stories on the Amistad ship, an audience member asked if any of this information aligned with Obama’s politics. Even though every anti-Black person around the world says they’re obviously opposed to Black oppression, when it comes to saying Black liberation, they get scared.
The reason why Nancy has a problem with Harriet Tubman being talked about is that she politically is against liberation from slavery. When someone’s opposition to Obama is because he aligns politically with slaves who freed themselves, it starts to make a lot more sense how similar modern white people and society is to antebellum white society and politics with a change of technology." ~ Lioness Daiba Sala (Sept.24, 2015)

Namibian women of the Heroro people teasing and playing with a white man |
There were a lot of scaling accusations and criticizers hurled stones at this image, and in turn the photographer. It was seen as trashy, nasty. It was puzzling how much revulsion this photo conjured up in some and in others gave rise to desire, play and fantastic projections! One man thoughtfully wrote in response to the backlash, "to those who say the pic is dirty, do a little research online and look at the majority of classic pin up art and pics were all about the subtle hints of attraction. most were nudes and a lot were used as nose art on American and British world war two fighters and bombers. the most famous being the Memphis Belle. most were classic gil evgreen photos and paintings. i find the model to be quite eye catching and the pose is very tasteful, no pun intended. its not like a porn mag with her legs spread and the cake smeared all over. plus if you think you can do it better then why not try it yourself. that's just my opinion, just saying." - Matthew Price

It would be a study, an interesting study to meet the detractors and critics of this photograph. Their insights delve into an aspect of the legacy of the Puritans and other philosophical musings the Western world favored the world with. A lot can be said about suppression. A lot can be said about the freedoms of expression.
This is a tease, the photo, but isn't the center of attraction between sexes one of a tease?

The Prince of Darkness
Miles Dewy Davis III playing his trumpet |
Trumpeter-bandleader Miles Davis (1926-91) was a catalyst for the major innovations in post-bop, cool jazz, hard bop, and jazz-fusion, and his wispy and emotional trumpet tones were some of the most evocative sounds ever heard. He was also one of the most identifiable and misunderstood icons of the 20th century.
The book: The Miles Davis Story:The Miles Davis Story is a remarkable, in-depth look at one of the most influential figures in jazz, from the Birth of the Cool to his collaborations with legendary pianist Gil Evans to his controversial 1970s albums and beyond.

the problem of looking back is the Truth.
A white woman, Linda Roeder, noted "I see a strong willed, wise, confident man and kindness in his eyes. Very much an attractive male." when she looked at Scorched Lightning's photograph dressed in his regalia with a Bear claw necklace and a stoic expression upon his face.
Nothing wrong with that. He is handsome.
Yeah, but imagine what he was pondering looking into the eyes of the white man fussing over his camera equipment and trying to make easy banter across enemy lines of thought and belief! What hostile feelings did he have to swallow as compromise? Whites don't, didn't compromise, and incapable of compromise in the late 1800's was this the face Scorched Lighting placed upon his face for a piece of his soul to be captured for posterity? We will never truly know, but our ancestors within and around us remembered to keep it in the songs and stories and the remnants of the Old Ways, and the ceremonies keeping us Indians to our People. - Gregory E. It is incredible how many 'like' this picture, and how few speak their thoughts on the image. 4,555 people + one. I am going to 'like' it when I finish talking about the picture.
The image of the beautiful white woman leaning on the muscle car in the year of its make is part of the complex stories of the time that looks good on film, and print, and and feels good in song and boast! So much in this one picture points to the present, and where we are now culturally, politically and financially as a nation. Many attitudes and reactions to World War II and I hidden in this image led to the current challenges on the national front, and much of those roots are buried in this image.
If anyone is a global citizen this is not foreign news. It is the American story we live, and others react to that is captured here. Well, that is one thing. FEAR of self
James Bell, Founder and Executive Director of the W. Haywood Burns Institute for Juvenile Justice Fairness and Equity shed obvious light on a subject, a reality held tight in the embrace of what is wrong with the U.S. and said, “Part of your responsibility as a teenager is to be rebellions and stupid. In groups. That’s normal human behavior. But the only people who mess up as kids who are criminalized are people of color. White children get the pass. Black children get locked up, white kids get diversion. Black kids get velcroed in, white kids get tefloned out”
I saw this very clearly in action when I was in law enforcement many years ago. It is still the same. It would change if whites were not protecting privilege, place and power. It would change significantly if Black people thought offensively and detailed a spiritual path that leads not to misunderstandings of who they are, but comes from the framework of their authentic self.
An older man, a Black Federal police officer, told me in my twenties, "No one is free whose freedom was given to them!" Then he looked down and into my eyes as I do these days as an older man no longer a policeman talking to younger Black Americans caught in the net of white approval and the fears of being Black (whatever that is), and themselves. When people cannot fight for their own sanity will they fight for freedom and look at the next seven generations to see how they reflect into their bloodlines?
These are my words. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 9.26.15

Let's Look Within Ourselves
1.
Hendrik Witboii was the King of Nama. He led his people into South West Africa in an effort to fight the German colonization there. Appearing on most Namibia bank notes, he was inaugurated in the Heroe’s Acre in 2002. Hendrik Witbooi was the first African leader who took up arms against the German imperialists and foreign occupiers in defense of our land (Nama) and territorial integrity.
2.
It is also from Ghana where we have the beautiful comparison and mutual complement between the wife and the husband: “Woman is a flower in a garden; her husband, the fence around it” . So the women need all the protection that men can give them." - Lioness Daiba Sala
There is truth to the memory of those words. How we interact is heavily influenced by the colonial period in African countries. Are African unions more contentious than before European influence? Are they revolving around the old ways? I don't know the answers. Africa has changed since I lived there. All things change, but in what direction? - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 9.26.15

Self-Reflection upon a Nation
Interesting. Lioness Daiba Sala, you assembled five quotes said by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. seldom said in public forums. You titled this: "MLK QUOTES WHITE PEOPLE DONT QUOTE" I imagine, thinking about how Dr. King has become a benevolent figure fighting for all people over the past few decades. He was first and foremost fighting for his people and his philosophical musings came from that framework. To minimize him his large body of thought and work is a continuous playing of his speech in 1963. The deep challenges to American thought from Dr. King challenged white people's ideals and perceptions like no other in large part because he was Western educated and telling the truth to their powers. Those who marched and protested then mirrored the gross contradictions white America believed in. It was an awful time Dr. King spoke into and against!
"Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." -
Martin Luther King, Jr.
"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Discrimination is a hellhound that gnaws at Negroes in every waking moment of their lives to remind them that the lie of their inferiority is accepted as truth in the society dominating them." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"A riot is the language of the unheard." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Property is intended to serve life, and no matter how much we surround it with rights and respect, it has no personal being. It is part of the earth man walks on. It is not man." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

U.S. Soldiers Told to Ignore Afghan Allies’ Abuse of Boys
Anyone who has lived in that part of the world knows how deeply entrenched is the sexual abuse of boys and girls. This report only highlights by chance what is a practice we will not do anything about. What isn't going to be stopped is the men on men practice on and off U.S. bases in Afghanistan, or Iraq. The Arabian countries routinely raping boys and girls after raiding their villages in parts of Africa for slaves will continue the trade. What will Americans do? What can Americans do but express outrage since we prefer to believe there is no connection between a man raping a boy, or the prison rape culture upon the outcome of a man's homosexuality! In our history are the countless stories of homosexual abuse employed by white men upon men of color as a terror tactic. What in this world can we do beyond rant about this with our story public knowledge on the worldwide web?
This worldview is a traceable attribute of the American and European's way of justifying morally deplorable practices during their quest for world domination. With that as a backdrop for our expressed outrage over the Afghan practice of bacha bazi (boy play) where is our moral high ground if our defense of Afghani boys and girls is grounded in a marred spiritual framework? - Gregory E. WOMEN'S STORIES 2
Joseph & Mary |
". . . Art, photography, sculptures tell powerful stories from and to the archetypes we come from and aspire to evolve from. A woman’s body clothed or not tells numerous stories in an instance. Those stories talk to states of being, various maturity levels, levels of pain, and in a glance arouse blood, dark memories, or inspire poetry, art, and begin courtships, or challenge the best of a man to wrestle with his darkness to kneel in the illumination of her dynamic. Sometimes I notice that certain images arouse what ails a soul: A trickster’s tale!
It is a simple fact that women populate the spiritual spaces to evolve spiritually far beyond men who tend to stagger behind in this realm. Being aware of this and an avid student myself of several disciplines, and a father of grown children I am deeply aware of the concepts of sensuality, female innocence, sexuality, and the perversions of sex, and women’s body. If I was a pervert I’d be a predator, and probably dead by now of disease, witchcraft, or knife. If I were a pervert you wouldn’t have read, and at times, studied my words so intensely. I am a man in a continuous state of learning..."
