FORGIVENESS between nations

The danger of clichéd reactions to historical wrongs needing correction is pronounced. Yusef raised valid points in his recollections of the origins of the darkness within the soul of the United States. The momentum built from original intent, good or bad, reaches a point of no return. That momentum is sweeping over the capacity to heal and is nearly upon us as a nation, and because fears proceed asking for forgiveness Americans who can’t won’t. Those who can have.
I agree there should be a collective apology to Native Americans and other peoples, but given the culture we live in that is as far as we go in the direction of the spiritual healing modalities, which are the prerequisites for deep abiding change, and healing. We are bound by religions in Iraq and the United States resistant to being near the source of deep powers. We are bound by deep penetrating fears living in wells within our beliefs, our thinking, our faith that holds the ghosts of what we really believe, honor, respect, and misunderstand and we are bound by what holds captive the fodder necessary to feed what we fear the most: seeing ourselves.
Islam and Christianity, Iraq and the United States share creation stories fixated in time far and distant from the present. If we study, and look closely within the wells of our being that is a problem because the inability to grasp the presence of Creation in the present tense lends itself to the continuation of conflict that feeds the energetic structure of these two cultures, and worldviews. These elements grate and gyrate against themselves stimulating deep red passionate fires of lust for gain, blood, and acceptance. Americans have to war. Americans have to battle against the pull to peer over into the dark wells of their origins, and into a Creation story from whence cometh their life-force, their God, and their misdirected zeal to conquer, not know, and be in control of the order of their Creation story that did not allow Eve to birth man; that could not conceive of placing Eve within the proper context of birth, and blood, death and life. In her presence we, as Americans have to kill. We cannot tell the truth of divine order to ourselves, or our children’s children. Our inability to do so is reflected in the waters of the Earth, our Mother.
The option, the religious and spiritual option: to rearrange the story within the wells of our beliefs is daunting a task. It is easier, much easier to war and fight around the center of our real conflicts, and to kill our grandchildren to feed our children. This is the American way. ©Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories
