What full bodied man in the world didn't watch BAYWATCH in the 1980's and early '90's? My friends and I called it Babe Watch. Red swimsuits, dynamic intro music, slim muscular bodies, passable story lines; it was a dream in its day, and we tried not to miss it. It was a rite. Something you did on the day it came on: watch it, and cheer during the commercials.
Well those women are older women now. Eggert is on the reality show SPLASH. It is a diving contest. Seems dangerous, but people love it. The diving is from heights I wouldn't dare dive from, but knowing me it would be tempting to try if a professional showed me how. There is nothing insightful to say. I just remembered the fun of watching Babe Watch when I saw her picture.
Two personalities, Pamela Anderson, and Traci Bingham stand out. Traci stood out because she broke a taboo. She was a Black woman. When she showed up even more Black guys tuned in. Wives did too, because of the acknowledgement of the splendor of Black women's beauty of body and form. She was a bit skinny, but she was brown, and she represented the race well. She was forgiven to a large degree, for posing for Playboy magazine.
Pamela Anderson somehow conjured up feelings around the whole image and allure of the accessible, and inaccessible dream of a white woman. You couldn't tell if her beauty and appeal was tempered by high intelligence, or if she was hanging on to the notion of beauty in the sense of Marilyn Monroe's mystique, and legend being a linear line of ascent. ~ Gregory E.
