My work with young people revealed the same stories. Buried deep in Mrs. Powell's blog is a painful reality buried deep and away from the average mindset: the need for, and the lack of Elders in communities around the country, and a lack of committed, matured and accessible adults to listen and help our children. When I use the word, Elder, I am talking about Elders in the way of Wisdom and Teaching. The lives of true Elders has prepared them for this role. I met  General Colin L. Powell and his wife once. I was performing at a gala event in the 1990's and he was accompanied by his wife. All of us musicians were stunned by her presence and personal power.  Her interaction with us before the event started revealed she was the source of who the General is.
