[note to the overly sensitive] "Our world does not conform to, nor look the way whites view the world; nor is there a corresponding feeling about the way history is between us, and what history has done to us!" - Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories
White woman's suffrage movement protestor. circa. 1900's. |
... early 1900's. If I give myself a minute I can recall the specifics, but white woman during this time period and struggle were treated horribly! Beaten, subjected to incarceration, electric shock treatment, fondling, rape because they dared asked to be free of the restrictions white men imposed upon them.
Think of the terrible crush to the ideals and idea of the Victorian era these women were at odds with as white men felt the push against the social order of the day! Think of it, from their point of view, as an act of terror. White women were shattering the templates of society oblivious or ignorant of what they, as white women, imposed upon Colored women! This time period and white women's suffering movement was, and is fraught with gross contradictions that from the point of view of Black women is as divisive and blind to them as before, in the 19th century!
There is a lot in this picture, in this time period to be remembered, or ignored as a matter of convenience. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 1/13/18
