The phenomena of foot fashion is interesting at best, and wrought with gross contradictions the buying public world wide does not want, or feel compelled to address intelligently because of all things: image. Image is all important and for millions image, the want or need for certain images subordinates care and concern for others we like to render invisible: poverty and children.
It is a known fact how little it cost to make shoes, and how much profit is in each celebrity endorsed shoe. Whether a shoe is made in sweat shops in countries other than our own, or in American prisons is meaningless and is as meaningless as the poor souls dependent upon surviving for their next meal. To further complicate the trend some of these corporations place the spiritual symbols and names from indigenous peoples as their own on their wares. Typically, for example, most do not know who NIKE is, or was. Wearing her name should not subjugate anyone, but it does. Understanding who is should register enough scrutiny into our consciousness to investigate our souls, and how we teach the next generation. But, it doesn't.
