In the context of American culture piercings have a sinister feel, to me. The Goth culture is one of alienation and beauty in their persuasion was not sought it was forced upon the general populace by anger and rebellion and angst. That alone should be enough to re-evaluate our parenting and mentoring instincts and skills. On the other view of the art forms tattoos and piercing come from long complex histories of spiritual awakening and development into the deeper teachings of life that led to the establishment of clans, initiations, and deeper prayers into the mystical worlds we now believe exists as planets in our galaxy, or are entered via the more subtle and fine portals into worlds beyond our telescopes that need verification of authenticity.
