Dark Characters

Maila Nurmi as the 1950's character Vampira she created.

Maila Elizabeth Syrjäniemi (December 11, 1922 – January 10, 2008), known professionally as Maila Nurmi, was a Finnish-American actress and television personality who created the campy 1950s character Vampira.

The daughter of a Finnish immigrant, Nurmi was raised in Oregon and relocated to Los Angeles in 1940 with hopes to be an actress. After several minor film roles, she found success in the Vampira character, television's first horror host. Nurmi hosted her own series, The Vampira Show, from 1954-55 on KABC-TV.

After the show's cancellation, she appeared in the Ed Wood cult film Plan 9 from Outer Space. She is also billed as Vampira in the 1959 movie, The Beat Generation where she plays a beatnik poet,as well as in the crime film The Big Operator (1959). She was portrayed by Lisa Marie in Tim Burton's 1994 film Ed Wood.

In the early 1950s, Nurmi was close friends with James Dean, and they spent time together at Googie's coffee shop on the corner of Crescent Heights and Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. She explained their friendship by saying, "We have the same neuroses." (Wiki)

(* Of course, her unusual figure was a key factor to her success, as Vampira claimed to be gifted with the following measurements: 38-17-36! Huh?)

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, waited for me every fall, or so I thought when she came around every October.

Elvira

Cassandra Peterson (born September 17, 1951) is an American actress best known for her portrayal of the horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. She gained fame on Los Angeles television station KHJ-TV wearing a revealing, black, gothic, cleavage-enhancing gown as host of Elvira's Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation. Her wickedly vampish appearance is offset by her comical character, quirky and quick-witted personality, and Valley girl-type speech. (Wiki)

WOMEN as Commodities???

Woman fucking is how women are often gauged in terms of value.  It is a difficult responsibility to address this subject matter as a man charged with his own sexual energies. To wade through desire and wisdom, restraint and understanding is not the easiest thing to do, but necessary for the boys around us needing to be tutored and mentored. Boys need to see these strengths in the men around them. Hopefully, initiation will stand in the gap of basic understandings of and about women. Initiation should broaden the view and perception of women in men's lives. At the least, initiation ceremonies will usher maturity and restraint into boys and men's spirits, and help resolve some of the conflicts women struggle through in their years of being a promise to a man, or sexually available, desirable and mothering. These four attributes bait men with their appeal to the spirit and the imagination of men. How we discipline ourselves (men) is one of the determinable factors of character and integrity. It ain't easy. But, it is necessary to become a man. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 7.12.14

IT is an ART

art of a dreamer- Esnella Wi

"It is an art form learning how to be authentic, learning how to be in sync with all the elements of our being. The way we learn to come together as one within our self; it is magical. This coming together within ourselves is how we conjurer the spirits of our childhoods as alchemists to grow up." - dawn wolf, keeper of stories 7.22.14

A Perfect Evening

SCRUMPTIOUS RAW VEGAN EGG NOG

1 cup pecans
3 cups water
1 cup dates
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (non alcohol)

Blend all your ingredients using hot water if you want a cozy warm drink. It should have the consistency of "egg" nog - if it's too thin, add more pecans. If it's too thick, add more water....easy as it gets! Change the spice amounts to suit your taste. Ahh... enjoy! - Chef Tina Jo, 12.3.13

Chef Tina Jo's egg nog!

I decided to start making egg nog recently. It is too hard to find the rich flavors of my childhood egg nog memories. The thing was I think a lot of people were making theirs and serving it around X'mas time! That was a difference. When I got older and was smitten by Elvira it was decided in my mind that should I ever meet her egg nog would be the ice breaker and the drink of choice because of its seductive quality, and the ambiance it creates within my body. It would be a perfect match. - Gregory 12.15.13

Elvira? No it's... Martha?

Fergie and Josh Duhamel
Is this Elvira in public again? No, it is the singer Fergie out with her husband, hooked up like Riff Raff from the movie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Josh Duhamel! They were attending a Mike Melman's Casamigos Tequila Halloween party.

thus teacheth the DARKNESS

DARKNESS into light

I don't think darkness is only the mere absence of light. I see darkness as the process of and the beginning of Creation. It is the sacred place of Introspection and Rebirth. Darkness is terrifying to be clear, and darkness can make it terrifying to be clear. But it is also revealing the way light plays with darkness creating shadows, the grey areas of our lives, of our thoughts.

I have never expressed darkness as you have so beautifully, and done so elegantly saying, "It's darkness that teaches the beauty of light." Nor have I expressed darkness the way Dal-Ham W. Payton does saying: "Darkness give birth to Light itself. There are 2 Elements found everywhere in the Cosmos. They are Darkness=Carbon(C) and Water (H2O). They are fundamental foundations for all living organisms. Darkness isn't bad, it is a physiological play on words."

I never thought of it as a play on words because I have spent so much time in the forest late at night absorbing, and immersing myself in intrigue, and moonlight, and stalking during a time I was hunting wild dogs alone, or listening to the peace of growth as a young father exploring the realms of consciousness having babies opened to me. On second thought darkness, light, Life, and all elements are the manifestation of words, and play does create the proper amount of friction, or tension to create. I guess there is merit to the assertion.

Dal-Ham W. Payton continues with a line of thought pure in its linear qualities I can better stand to hear and contemplate after my other worldly experiences with the dark of the forest, and the sacred Lodges, and the darkness of in my soul. His words, " Scientist’s today are enthusiastically researching various things that are mystical and intriguing: Dark(Black) Holes, Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Dark Flow. What great mysteries are they diligently searching for?” His observations pull the divine, somehow, into focus. – Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 1.6.13

MISTRESS of the DARK:Elvira

Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) undressed

Elvira is one of the sexiest white women in the public eye. Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and those other reality stars could have learned a thing or two about discretion from Elvira. Elvira maintained a public persona and a private life with dignity and without glimpses between her legs! There is a technique to fame I learned from her! - Gregory E. Woods 9.24.12

Elvira (Cassandra Peterson)

Cassandra Peterson (born September 17, 1949) is better known for her on-screen persona "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark". She gained fame on Los Angeles television station KHJ wearing a black, gothic, cleavage-enhancing gown as host of ''Movie Macabre'', a weekly horror movie presentation. Her wicked vampish appearance was offset by her comical character, quick witted personality and most of all talking like a Valley girl.
