"As evidenced by the photographer not hired the passage from the hood to a professional career will be difficult in the fashion industry. It is an industry that has made a lot of money from the 'hood and returns only to collect payment from those who pay for the designer clothes inspired by Black women's styles. It is a deeply ingrained pattern between the white world's relationship with Black women that has not changed over the centuries to the level of exchange that is powerful and beneficial for the Black woman.
It is a deep thing to not know one's self and even deeper is the stilled translation of ancestors' voices telling a Black woman one thing and she only hears what someone else has told her."
