white dress worn by Frances O'Connor near a white picket fence!!!! |
For those who don't know the reference to the white picket fence it is part of the ideal of what is the American Dream! When people refer to the American Dream it is a house with a lawn and a white picket fence. Early in the twentieth century the image of the blood spreading across the West had to be replaced with a happy image that belied any reference to white American's bloody siege over Turtle Island. The image was played in countless movies, illustrated on posters, painted as portraits, read in novels, comics, heard on radio and so on... The image was and is always white with white women center-focused as the epitome of serenity, home cooked meals, perfection! In short, she became the unattainable, but no less desired icon. Those of color couldn't run from the image so deeply was and is it implanted within our education and religious systems.
The image is dangerous in international circles and cultures. The integrity of the concept of white supremacy has not enhanced friendships, relationships, the legacy written in land, industry, custom or families. White supremacy has made void the valuable mysteries of the world making way for vulgarities previously undreamed. How to ascend and become not the opposite, but the better of mankind is a spiritual endeavor that reverses the present order of what success is!
People are asking questions. They understand. You don't look for answers you ask questions. TV audiences are asking why older white women, and older women of color are not represented in local and national news shows? People are questioning the type of women who run for political office asking to themselves, and later out loud; why are these women's wombs closed? These are some of the questions leaning public acceptance towards right action. What are you asking of yourself? - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 8.9.14
