Trump swipes at Mattis, McGurk in wake of resignations

President Trump took swipes Monday at outgoing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and diplomat Brett McGurk, both of whom resigned in large part over the president's decision to pull troops from Syria.

The president first trained his criticism on Mattis, a day after announcing his Pentagon chief would be leaving the administration on Jan. 1, weeks earlier than his planned February departure. In more evidence of escalating tensions between the two men, Trump claimed Mattis doesn't understand his concerns about "subsidizing" foreign military campaigns.
“We are substantially subsidizing the Militaries of many VERY rich countries all over the world, while at the same time these countries take total advantage of the U.S., and our TAXPAYERS, on Trade,” Trump tweeted. “General Mattis did not see this as a problem. I DO, and it is being fixed!”
In his resignation letter last Thursday, Mattis, 68, had said he would remain in his role for three more months. But Trump abruptly announced over the weekend that Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan would replace Mattis on Jan. 1.
The sudden change strips Mattis of any chance to further frame national security policy or smooth rattled relations with allies through the originally planned transition at the end of February. And it reflects White House displeasure with the retired Marine Corps general's resignation letter.
In the resignation letter, Mattis made clear he did not see eye to eye with the president on several issues. Mattis was also unhappy with Trump's order to develop plans to pull up to half of the 14,000 U.S. forces from Afghanistan.
On Sunday, Trump's acting chief of staff said that Trump had known for "quite some time now" that he and Mattis "did not share some of the same philosophies ... [or] have the same world view."
Mick Mulvaney told ABC's "This Week" that the president and his defense chief "just could never get on the same page" on Syria, adding that Trump had said since his presidential campaign that "he wanted to get out of Syria." Mulvaney said the president "is entitled to have a secretary of defense who is committed to that same end."
The Trump administration is making plans to pull all 2,000 troops out of Syria. Trump tweeted last week that “we have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.”
Trump has stood by his Syria decision despite fierce bipartisan blowback, telling detractors that the pullout should come as “no surprise” given his 2016 campaign promises and arguing that America’s role as “Policeman of the Middle East” is not worth the sacrifice.
In the wake of Mattis' departure, Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy for the global coalition to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS), also was reported to be leaving his post in protest. McGurk said in a resignation letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that ISIS was on the run, but wasn’t yet defeated -- and that U.S. work in Syria wasn’t yet done.
Since McGurk's announcement, Trump has lambasted him on social media for his role in the Iran nuclear deal brokered by former President Barack Obama. While serving as deputy assistant secretary of state for Iraq and Iran, McGurk spearheaded the secret negotiations with Iran that led to a prisoner swap and release of four Americans from Evin Prison in Tehran. This coincided with a cash payout to Tehran, ostensibly as part of a legal settlement.
Trump on Monday blamed McGurk for that payout, as he fumed over McGurk's "sympathizers."
"For all of the sympathizers out there of Brett McGurk remember, he was the Obama appointee who was responsible for loading up airplanes with 1.8 Billion Dollars in CASH & sending it to Iran as part of the horrific Iran Nuclear Deal (now terminated) approved by Little Bob Corker," Trump tweeted.
Fox News’ Gregg Re and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

White Boys, Drinking & Violence

The climate of the white school Kavanaugh went to in the DC area was, and is exactly how Dr. Christine Blasey Ford described. It was and is a very loud way of life among those white kids up to and in college. Many Black and Hispanic parents, myself included, steer our children from them during celebratory events like football games, parades; anything to do with patriotism because their propensity towards violence unwinds with beer, and liquor unwinds a violence they believe has a right to out in the open.

I won't share my negative encounters, but many have similar stories in this area of encounters with white boys, and white men with the same belief systems. The way the white boys compress this is familiar to our ancestors. How we protect our grandchildren changes as the laws white men change our focus on where they might be designing life for us with violence, not that far away.

Kavanaugh can't face the women offended by his terror inspired disregard for their well being. Men and women of this persuasion can't feel the weight and the pain of this history for fear it will attach itself upon their livelihoods. It does despite emotional denial as this power they harness empowers the history of terrorism without words, but a distinctive feeling known all too well by those of us not of that group of men. - Gregory E. Evidence of the Fool!

I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.

I have not read the New York Times' opinion editorial released the other day anonymously in the literary form of a diatribe against Donald Trump. The excerpts on the news are all I've read. Someone, in this administration, has moral fiber and the texture of responsibility floods his or her being with integrity. At the core of this piece consider the weight of this small quote:

"...we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic. That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump's more misguided impulses until he is out of office. The root of the problem is the president's amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making."

White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders believes and said, "This coward should do the right thing and resign." The unnamed official who wrote this editorial said others at his/her level, who are like-minded, chose to stay on the job to save the country from President Trump believing the President's leadership style is erratic, and his "...leadership style is petty and ineffective."

In response to the assertions in the opinion piece, Republican senator, Bob Corder, stood in front of reporters today and said with clear eyes and clarity; "It wasn't new news to me. It wasn't new news to anybody who served in the Senate." Bob Woodward's book, "FEAR" paints Trump "as ignorant and impulsive and of aides who struggle to reign him in".

With over 3,000 recorded lies, to date, coming out of the president's mouth the question to precede any response is: "Is he lying?"

We are long past a tolerable point. There is no parent or spouse who would suffer three thousand lies from a child, or a relative and maintain the possibility the child is telling the truth! Such a low standard in a marriage does not survive, if such a one exists! There is something amiss in the purpose of this presidency, and something hides within the shadows of the allegiance for this man, who has built a reputation over the decades in business based upon his name, and not dependent upon integrity, but his ability to bring value to the market place.

That's his value. His substance is not based upon moral integrity. His presence in high office is telling a profound story millions refuse to acknowledge because of things they want that are consistent with their vision in life for and from this country. All of this is buried in the long history of the psychopath of the European characters that left that land that likes to call itself a continent without fulfilling the qualifications for such a distinction!

A fundamental question to ask in the shadow of these facts is: "Is there an agreement to undermine the very strength of a nation's core to maintain a divisive substance that will temporarily validate a belief system itself not beneficial to all citizens?"

P.S.

There is a lot of buzzing around in the White House. People, up to the Vice President, are denying they wrote this opinion piece. There is an opinion poll on the television screen, right now, pointing out that 64% of the people, at least, in the Washington DC area think this is article is treasonous, and 37% believe it is patriotic! It will change each minute, but understanding the pulse of this area the outcome will be stirring because the two words: treason and patriotic mean one thing to white Americans and something different to Native Americans and Black Americans, who are not considered in the estimation of this White House.

One Congressman said in front of the camera in a deadpan: "I think a lot's been made outa nothing. I think the biggest issue they're gonna have is figuring out, who wouldn't have written a letter like that?" - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories

Contradictions over time, within belief sytems...

Asian couple. rarely photographed like this.
Americans prefer the stereotypes...

[Many] Asian woman's provocative way of being unstable in the stability of mutual support from a googling male population, and assertions of feminism in their own countries is a cultural challenge read by American culture with not much accuracy. Under the pleasure of assuming superiority many Americans think they understand Asian cultures. With this mistaken belief system the danger of negotiating with any Asian nation, from a presidency like Trump's, is a disaster waiting to express chaos. In the criminal mind weaknesses Trump displays with aplomb are played with by manipulative killers, because white men like Trump think there are no things unattainable to them. This makes them feel they are capable of outmaneuvering their tactics. It is an easy game when the mouse believes he can outwit the cat in the open! - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 6/12/18

Moral Bankruptcy

the Riddle in "HOW?"

"How is it that we can punish women who are paid by politicians yet allow freedom and forgiveness to the politicians who pay them? The irony of the situation is that if we allow Sptizer’s deep pockets to buy his way back into our homes and hearts, then it’s not young women he hired who are whores, it’s the people of New York." Black History: a look at the past through the present!

We called James Brown, and Sammy Davis Jr. sell outs when they stood up and out supporting presidents who did not support the causes Black folks needed. They were called Toms, and took a lot of grief, but the depth of the substance they embodied was based upon the way they served Black communities and ideals during their careers. They took professional risks to take risks for their people despite white opinions of the 'Negro problem'!

These lens provides a way of looking at today with wider lens. Without a proper historical perspective movements like Kanye West's rush to be photographed with President Trump bring attention to his crazy outbursts. But, politically and as a social advocate for his people what does this young man produce that makes him as compelling as James Brown, or Sammy Davis Jr., and important to his people? - Gregory E. SEX, POLITICS, and GUNS

Guns. The coming together of gun and white woman is and has always
been a deadly combination; add a porn star to the equation and what comes alive,
and out of that kind of math?... ~ Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories. Audrey Bitoni in photo.

The coming together of gun and white woman is and has always been a deadly combination; add a porn star to the equation and what comes alive, and out of that kind of math? There is power in each of the three, but the coming together is the multiplication of hidden factors, not to be separated or divided. But, since the subject poses within history the fact of what a porn star brings into this equation limits the subject of murder to a narrow space concerned with being objectified, raped, or seen as no more than a potential sexual conquest. That ain't fair. Sex is a center piece.

The historical contribution of white women to the violence African slaves experienced, and the grandchildren of ex-slaves shuddered beneath returns the full weight of this history upon the shoulders it belongs. This kind of violence is tied to sex.

This perspective comes from the context of American life and legacy. Not addressing the core of the conditions holding this country apart, and together is irresponsible. Understanding how complex the relationships that complicates the world, and strains within the myth of American society is what is part of being a global citizen! Disturbingly, these are connected to the conservative white man in Alabama running for senator in Alabama!

How?

Americans don't want to know their truths. But it is entirely up to the American citizen to find out why sex is tied to what disturbs the equations of American history in the puzzle around this white man in the senate race in the bloody state of Alabama!

OF the many: 2 things to ponder.

ONE

I am looking for the right word or phrase. It would be for the better way to express an absurdity, a trifleness centered around President Trump and his inability to care or to have acquired integrity. It was apparent to all, but the millions of white folks who need to believe in the supremacy of their lowest common denominator: poor white trash. In this equation is the assumption among those opposed to him feeling the need to dispute everything Trump does with over emphasis on how much better their view is to his. I share this belief because it is clear where the spirit of said Trump is too painfully a part of American history; thus predictable.

But, in respect to this controversy about the man not calling dead soldier's families, there is no respect in the man for others. Trump, let's say, understands one thing about the military Americans like to not believe: soldiers are cannon fodder. Not having an internal structure of character, of a man in the deep sense of the word; it is inconceivable to expect the man to demonstrate care. It is not part of his make up. Anything gained by someone making his behavior better is inconclusive evidence that the integrity and manners we teach our children was not part of his mentality.

Wishful thinking is not policy. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories [Oct. 22, 2017]

TWO

On this day October 22, 1906, 'Three thousand African Americans demonstrate and nearly riot in front of the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to protest a theatrical presentation of Thomas Dixon's The Clansman, a novel that glorified the Ku Klux Klan.

While attending a performance of the play earlier that day, African Americans seated in the segregated balcony had hurled eggs at the actors on the stage. By nighttime, protesters were out shouting against the play. Local clergy members took the lead in the protest, claiming that The Clansman depicted people of African descent as "beast[s] of the jungle" and the play encouraged whites to lynch African Americans.

After the clergy demanded a meeting with Mayor John Weaver, they were able to have the remaining scheduled performances of the play cancelled -at least until the following year.

The Clansman book later became the basis for D. W. Griffith's racist film, Birth of a Nation.'

Health of a Nation

John Conyers on Why He Keeps Introducing a Medicare for All Bill.

"First elected to Congress in 1965, John Conyers is the oldest serving representative in the House... He has won re-election twenty-five times and is serving in his twenty-sixth term. And he has been introducing a Medicare-for-All bill in the House since 2003...

on his website, he explains why: ...

... The United States still spends almost twice as much per person on health care as any other country, yet our key outcomes – life expectancy, infant mortality and preventable deaths – too often lag behind our peers. A recent Commonwealth Fund study ranked the U.S. healthcare system dead last among 11 highly developed countries in terms of quality, efficiency and access to health care.

... More and more people across the country understand that a single-payer healthcare system is the only way to guarantee quality care and at the same time reduce medical costs.

...That is why I have introduced my bill, The Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act, in every Congress since 2003. It is co-sponsored by more than 50 Members of Congress and support continues to grow."

She Speaks for her People!

1921-09-14

*On this date in 1921, Constance Baker Motley was born. She was an African American lawyer, judge, and politician.

From New Haven, Connecticut she is one of nine children to a family who had migrated to America from the Caribbean island of Nevis. While attending school, she was active in the New Haven Youth Council, and the New Haven Adult Community council. Motley attended Fisk University, transferring to New York University-graduating in 1943 with a degree in economics. She attained her law degree from Columbia University in 1946.

While at Columbia she became acquainted with Thurgood Marshall, helping with the task needed to file Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 through the NAACP. An instrumental player of that legal team, Motley argued other cases before the Supreme Court, one of her best known cases was Meredith v. Fair1962, helping James Meredith gain admission to the University of Mississippi in 1962.

She furthered her cause for civil rights in 1964 by being elected to the New York Senate, the first black woman to hold that office. In 1966, Motley was appointed to a federal judgeship in 1966, the first African American woman to hold that position. She made many important rulings in her new post. In 1991, Motley ruled that it is illegal for a company to make photocopies of articles and book excepts and assemble them into anthologies for sale to college or university students.

She has written countless articles and legal observations which reflect her stance on civil rights and its importance in America. One example is: Equal Justice Under Law: The Life of a Pioneer for Black Civil Rights and Women's Rights 1998. This presents a detailed legal history of her fight against the "separate but equal" racial practices of the 1950s and 1960s. In the fall of 1997 Montley served as jurist-in-residence at the Indiana University School of Law. Constance Baker Motley died on September 28, 2005.

a Joke, a Fool in High Office.

QUOTATION OF THE DAY

"Love your shoes. Boy, those shoes. Man!"

He and the speech are a joke and an insult to intelligence. The thinking that changing his tone, as the big bad bully, encircled and facing the leaders of the countries he has verbally attacked, signals changes is as disrespectful of people as anything else he has done in his life on earth. It is glaringly obvious to all except for his base and those who think they benefit from alliance with him, that he cares for people, or even understands his life, the world, and his words and his beliefs are clearly understood the world over.

We, the Brothers Four and our sister, Cynthia, grew up as children of a diplomat and probably know more about international affairs and how to build relationships with people unlike us, and have a firm grasp on interpersonal relationship skills than the president. It disgusts me, this man, but Mommy and Daddy sat me down in my early life and showed me over the years how to recognize and deal with men like this. Each of us in our own time learned these skill sets from our parents.

Trump, or any other redneck, is no surprise. He is a given in the society we live in, and people of the darker hue have had to develop skills to deal with people like this throughout our long history with the dichotomies of Euro-Americans. I pray, not for the president; he is attached to his lunacy. I pray for something else that may never come to past... - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 5/29/17

What We Believe We Act.

Poise, stillness and perceptions of serenity color and magnify Melissa's beauty in her spirit.

How we see spirit sees the physical formed from spirit. Without this inclination to understand beauty in its forms are the misrepresentations of masculinity and the short fall from divinity to the coarseness of whoredom. It isn't a short fall. It is always short and brutal the jerking away from the pristine nature we are all born with, and into Life. Our response to this offense is often too late when it happens undetected, or out of ignorance a parent does the deed. Either way it is the responsibility of community intervention ideally, and the impact of love from those who know how to restore that restores balance. - Gregory E. U.S. Marine with 1/3 Marines Weapons company carries an M240 machine gun over his shoulder while patrolling farmland in the northeast of Marjah, Afghanistan, on Feb. 14, 2010. photo by Patrick Baz

The U.S. Department of Defense is investigating hundreds of Marines who used social media to solicit and share hundreds — possibly thousands — of naked photographs of female service members and veterans.

Since Jan. 30, more than two dozen women – many on active duty, including officers and enlisted service members – have been identified by their full name, rank and military duty station in photographs posted and linked to from a private Facebook page.
In one instance, a female corporal in uniform was followed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, by a fellow Marine, who surreptitiously photographed her as she picked up her gear. Those photographs were posted on the Facebook group Marines United, which has nearly 30,000 followers, drawing dozens of obscene comments.

One member of the Facebook group suggested that the service member sneaking the photos should “take her out back and pound her out.” Others suggested more than vaginal sex:
“And butthole. And throat. And ears. Both of them. Video it though … for science.”

Senior officials with Headquarters Marine Corps have verified that incident, as well as the distribution of photographs of other active-duty and veteran women through the page and links to a Google Drive.

The photo sharing began less than a month after the first Marine infantry unit was assigned women Jan. 5. It underscores ongoing problems of sexual harassment within military ranks and could hurt recruitment of women. Officials within the Defense Department confirmed it also puts service members at risk for blackmail and jeopardizes national security.

The activity on the Marines United page was uncovered by The War Horse, a nonprofit news organization run by Marine veteran Thomas Brennan. Within a day of Brennan contacting Marine Corps headquarters Jan. 30, social media accounts behind the sharing had been deleted by Facebook and Google at the Corps’ request, and a formal investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service has been launched.

However, it is clear that the actions taken so far have not stopped the activity: Photos of the woman followed at Camp Lejeune were posted on Marines United on Feb. 16, more than two weeks after the linking accounts had been shut down. The Marine who shot those photos has been discharged from active duty, Marine Corps officials confirmed.

“We need to be brutally honest with ourselves and each other: This behavior hurts fellow Marines, family members, and civilians. It is a direct attack on our ethos and legacy,” Sgt. Maj. Ronald L. Green, the most senior enlisted Marine on active duty, wrote in an email response. “It is inconsistent with our Core Values, and it impedes our ability to perform our mission.”

The service is deeply concerned about the damage the incident could do to the Marines, according to a document provided to generals Friday warning them of the upcoming story.

The 10-page “Office of Marine Corps Communications Public Affairs Guidance” lists resources for victims, including a website to report crimes, and provides talking points for other media and members of Congress – who, it suggested, will want answers. It also outlines another possible blow to come: inappropriate responses from Marines.

“The story will likely spark shares and discussions across social media, offering venues for Marines and former Marines who may victim blame, i.e., ‘they shouldn’t have taken the photos in the first place,’ or bemoan that they believe the Corps is becoming soft or politically correct,” it said.

Facebook messages seeking comment sent today to Marines United’s current administrators were not returned. At least three of those listed on the page were aware of the activity: Two participated in comment strings about the photos and another “liked” one of them.

More than 2,500 comments about the photos were left by group members, many of whom used their personal Facebook accounts that include their names, ranks and duty stations. Some invited others to collect, identify and share photos of naked or scantily clad servicewomen. Based on their profiles, service members who participated in the photo sharing are stationed around the world — from Japan to North Carolina — and across military branches, from air wing to infantry.

Dozens of now-deleted Google Drive folders linked from the Facebook page included dossiers of women containing their names, military branches, nude photographs, screenshots of their social media accounts and images of sexual acts. Dozens of other subfolders included unidentifiable women in various stages of undress. Many images appear to have originated from the consensual, but private, exchange of racy images, some clearly taken by the women themselves.

After the accounts were deleted, the Marine Corps contacted the employer of the Marine veteran who initially posted the Google Drive link on Marines United. He was fired from his position as a government subcontractor in the United States, according to Maj. Clark Carpenter, a Marine Corps spokesman.

The War Horse has spoken with five of the women in the photographs. Two said they believe former partners might have leaked images. Some said they worry their own accounts might have been hacked or poached. One said a co-worker, a male Marine, alerted her to the fact that the photographs had been posted.

The corporal photographed at Camp Lejeune learned she had been stalked only after The War Horse sought comment from military officials. But she said she thinks she remembers the man. She spoke on condition of anonymity, nervous about reprisal and becoming more of a target.

“He was standing close enough to smell my perfume,” she said. “This is going to follow me – just like he did.”

The Marines United Facebook page has been around since 2015 and limits membership to male Marines, Navy corpsmen and British Royal Marines. The group has a code of conduct pinned to the top of its page: no discussing Marines United; no threats, harm or harassment; and no racist and illegal posts.

The thousands of images gathered by some group members reveal information about hundreds of female veterans and service members, including social media handles and where they are stationed. These acts violate not only the group’s stated code of conduct, but also Facebook’s terms of use.

The initial link on the page to the image collection read:
“Here you go, you thirsty fucks … this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is more coming.”
Within one minute, commenters began posting:
“Holy fuck, there is a god.”
The federal employee – the one who has since been fired – posted a response:
“Anyone can contribute. They just have to (private message) me for their own personal upload link.”

Some Marines promised free beer to contributors. Many tagged friends. One seemed to be tracking the number of photos submitted, writing, “Over 400 more pictures added,” to which he received the response, “Well Done Marine!”

“I know one of these chicks, her name is …” read another of the hundreds of comments. “Check her out boys.”

This distribution of photographs without the women’s consent can threaten their mental health, according to Dr. Frank Ochberg, a psychiatrist, founding board member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and former associate director of the National Institute of Mental Health.

“It impairs the ideal of a brotherhood and sisterhood, being able to count on somebody,” said Ochberg, who pioneered the post-traumatic stress disorder diagnosis in 1980. “Within the military, this is a violation of family. … There are few organizations held to such esteem as the Marine Corps. They stand for honor, courage and commitment.

“This destroys honor. … This is sadistic. … This is disloyalty.”

In recent years, the armed forces have implemented programs and protocols to respond to reports of sexual harassment, assault and equal opportunity violations. But Marine Corps officials confirmed that none include procedures for dealing with sexual exploitation of this nature.

In 2013, U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., brought a similar problem to the Marines’ attention, an incident noted in the public affairs document sent to generals Friday. In that case, comments denigrating women were posted on a Facebook page. Gen. James Amos, then-commandant of the Marine Corps, responded by citing the difficulties in monitoring and tracking social media to investigate offensive content, as well as inadequate funding.
Speier would have none of it, saying his response was “frankly unacceptable.”

Subsequently, the Marines posted an article defining Marine social media misconduct and mined Facebook, identifying “12 additional Marines allegedly linked to racist, sexist, and/or otherwise inappropriate social media misconduct,” the public affairs document says. “Information about these incidents were provided to unit commanders for appropriate action.”

The Marine Corps and Department of Defense aren’t the only federal agencies battling sexual exploitation.

In 2013, Julia Pierson was the first woman to be appointed as director of the U.S. Secret Service. During her tenure, Pierson faced congressional criticism for a security breach at the White House in 2014, and she worked to improve the agency’s image following a prostitution scandal involving 11 agents.

Pierson told The War Horse that her experiences with civilian law enforcement and the Secret Service have proven that “there’s always a double standard.” These images, she said, “aren’t going away and (next time) they’re going to have an entry fee.

“This is way beyond stupidity and boys being boys,” she said.
The Marines needs to take steps to restore the credibility of their organization, Pierson said.
“They need to realize that this is an entirely new threat,” she said. “This is a coordinated attack on the organization. … This is a hunting club.”

The War Horse submitted multiple requests for additional comment to the defense secretary and commandant of the Marine Corps. Both declined to comment on specifics of the situation, citing the ongoing investigation.

However, in his email, Green added additional perspective, repeatedly denouncing the “demeaning or degrading behavior” of Marines United members and encouraging Marines — and all service members — to be “a voice of change” for the better.

“As Marines, as human beings, you should be angry for the actions of a few,” Green wrote. “Ultimately we must take a look in the mirror and decide whether we are part of the problem or the solution.”
“We need to realize that silence is consent — do not be silent.”

Donald Trump, our president, is a real MF.
