The coming of age ceremony was conducted when a child turned 15. That was the age of adulthood in Maya society. This ceremony was conducted by a priest to announce that a child had attained adulthood, and was properly prepared by their parents for their life's work, and ready for marriage. The ceremony was followed by a feast provided by the parents of the child, for all their invited guests. This ceremony was held by families of both commoners and nobles. ~ anon
