Many of us search for His signs hoping He will guide us, yet we remain lost. There may be moments when we witness His absolute infinite wealth of guidance (tawfiq) and blessings, still most of the time we persist in a world of emptiness and neediness. We search endlessly for His messages. But if God were to answer your call, would you know it? Would you heed His guidance? Is it possible that you... are repeatedly shown signs, and dismiss them as simple coincidences?


Understanding His will and receiving His call requires closeness (taqwa). It requires a tearing of the veil between you and Him. Tributes to MARILYN MONROE

Pop legend Madonna's most iconic video, "Material Girl," is based on Monroe's performance of Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend in the 1953 movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Madge emulated Monroe's look in a fitted pink dress with piles of diamonds and made sure to surround herself with a circle of men in tuxedos. Still, in 1992, Madonna dismissed the idea that she was like Monroe. "The main thing that we have in common is that we bleach our hair. She's a 'sex symbol' and a 'sex goddess' and I can relate to that in terms of how many people like to see me," she explained to Smash magazine. "I kind of like to take that imagery and what everybody's preconceived notions of what a sex goddess is supposed to be and turn it all around. Throw it back in your face and say, 'Yes, I can be this sex symbol, but I don't have to be a victim, and I don't have to be fragile.'"



Megan Fox

Like Marilyn, Megan Fox has earned a reputation of being one of the more difficult actresses to work with on set and is a favorite of men. But the 28-year-old Transformers actress claims to have had a connection with Monroe long before Fox made her way in Hollywood. "She was one of the first people I saw on television, like, literally moments after I was born," Fox has reportedly said. "Every time I heard her voice growing up I always would cry. I wouldn't know why when I was younger, but had my own theories. I've just always empathized with her." Many years later, Fox was still obsessed, and famously had the late actress's face tattooed on her right forearm as a tribute. By 2011, however, Fox had a change of heart, and confirmed that she was in the process of having the Monroe tattoo and several others removed because her tastes had changed. "This is going to be the least painful one to take off," she explained on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. "She doesn't look so good anymore!"

What is Education: privilege, or a right?

This is a very interesting topic. i grew up in Alaska. As a child I tested as gifted and was in several gifted programs. However by high school my mother (single parent) left my education mostly in my hands, due to a combo of a stubborn teenager and the time she had to take to keep a roof over our heads. At which point, I really stopped caring about grades and did the bare minimum to graduate. I was supposedly so smart, and did have a quick understanding of topics, that i did not feel the need to work for it, and only did enough homework to pass classes. I tested extremely well in SATs and ACTs. I could answer all the questions of my peers and teachers in my science, math, and English courses. 

One of my peers who was in all the same advanced classes and eventually class valedictorian asked me my college test scores. When I told her, she was very upset i had scored higher than she did, yet I was a C (or below) student. She was upset because she had worked very hard for the best score possible, and truly could not understand why I did ‘better’.

Fast forward a few years when i decided to enter college. Imagine my surprise when I was not eligible for any scholarships. Didn't they know my brilliance?

Once I did get into college with a combo of state loans and my McDonald's income, suddenly grades mattered. Now I was literally invested in my own education. I was very involved in all aspects of my classes; setting up study groups, asking questions of all my teachers, providing feedback when I felt the quality of teaching was not what it should be for a college course. For the first time I got A’s by making an effort. It felt much better than a high SAT and ACT score.

I do think we do not appreciate the free educational system. I also see college students who do not pay for their classes sometimes have the same lack of initiative. I have often thought it sad as they will find the work world to be a shock if they do not start to apply a work ethic to following a syllabus in a 101 level course.

Madonna Banned From Alamo Drafthouse After Texting During '12 Years A Slave' NYFF Premiere

Always the one to court controversy and attention wherever she goes, Madonna could not help but express herself during the New York Film Festival premiere of "12 Years A Slave" earlier this week. Fresh off releasing her short film "secretprojectrevolution" and spearheading a global initiative to protect freedom of expression, she was spotted at the screening of Steve McQueen's slavery drama exhibiting less-than-stellar moviegoing etiquette. 

The news originated from this Facebook post by film critic Charles Taylor, who passed along the following anecdote from a former student:

Tonight at the New York Film Festival premiere of '12 Years A Slave' (a masterpiece, by the way), I sat behind the unholy trifecta of Jason Ritter, J. Alexander from 'America's Next Top Model,' and Michael K. Williams from 'The Wire.' Plus, a mysterious blonde in black lace gloves who wouldn't stop texting on her Blackberry throughout the first half of the movie. Eventually, a woman next to me tapped her on the shoulder and told her to put her phone away, and the blonde hissed back, 'It's for business... ENSLAVER!' I turned to the shoulder tapper and loudly said, 'THANKS!' and gave her a thumbs up. The rest of the movie, I kept thinking about how I wanted to tell the blonde what a disgrace she was. During the standing ovation, the blonde ducked out and Jason Ritter turned around to make commiserating eye contact, as J. Alexander asked, 'Who WAS that?!' Jason then looked down at the floor. His eyes got wide, and he picked up an envelope and showed it to us and J. And it said: '2 screening tix MADONNA.' And sure enough, we looked to the side of the theater and standing against the wall in black lace gloves was Madonna. The worst person in America.

The issue of texting during movies has been a sore point among moviegoers for some time now. No one knows this better than Tim League, founder of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the Austin-based theater chain that kicked out a patron for texting during a movie and went on to produce several amusing advertisements with celebrities urging moviegoers to refrain from using their mobile devices when the lights are down. 

Upon hearing of Madonna's violation, League took to Twitter, barring her from stepping foot inside any of the Drafthouse cinema locations until she issues an apology to moviegoers.
