New York Fashion Week Accessories Remixed
Elizabeth Keene at A Keene Sense of Style, fashion blogger from Los Angeles, CA.
Wednesday, September 14, 2016

New York Fashion Week is my favorite fashion event of the year because we get all dressed up, stroll the streets on NYC and take in all of the fashion from the runways. The biggest dilemma I often have is packing, or over packing rather. I never want to leave any of my favorite pieces behind which usually results in overweight baggage fees. But this season, I decided to do things differently. Sure you don't want to get caught wearing the same outfit twice but accessories can be reworked to go with many different looks and they happen to be the major culprit when it comes to weighed down suitcases.

For Day 3 of New York Fashion Week I partnered with Call It Spring to style their gold choker, navy blue carryall, and printed pumps two ways. For my daytime look, I paired my accessories with a sleek off the shoulder trench dress. This look was perfect for strolling the streets of NYC and visiting showrooms. For my evening look I wanted something that was bit more high fashion to wear to the runway shows, so I paired a red ruffled crop top with high waisted striped pants and added in my Call It Spring printed pumps. Do you ever re-work your accessories to save space when traveling?

Thanks so much for visiting me!

Sophistication within the Black American woman: not a myth.

Sophisticated in black DIY wool and leather dress by Mimi Goodwin
with a pair of Steve Madden over the top knee boots.

It is an unapologetic look one can strive for but not attain this woman has that is sophisticated, calm and desirable. It is the main desire of designers to bring something out of a woman, but a large percentage of Black women, by nature, bring out designs. It is a gift to a world of fashion. It is something to look into, study and embody if possible. If it is possible. It may not be. It may be that a woman has to turn around in her nature, discover who she is and release it in her way. If it be sophisticated, so be it. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories (10.7.16)

Thrice As Nice

I have a soft spot for suits. I mean, who says that menswear has to be just for men? I had this three piece suit custom made and I love everything about it from the fit, to the print, to the perfect gold buttons. I paired it with lime green pumps and a nude bag for day 3 of New York Fashion Week. I wanted to wear this suit to the Zimmerman show because I love how different it is from everything else that I see on the streets. In fact, I can't say that I've ever seen a three piece suit on a woman let alone at fashion week. It seemed like a unique approach. Sometimes it's nice to think outside the box.

I hope you're having a great day!

HEAVY in the Spotlight

"Melissa McCarthy from the first time I saw her on her sitcom struck a dynamic and sexy pose effortlessly that endeared me and many other men to her. It is the kind of thing that occurs in Washington DC alot with Black women who are big and built like African women. Beyond that I can't explain in the language of the women here in DC what resonates within Melissa McCarthy. . . ." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 8.22.15

"Perhaps, it is difficult to assess whether Melissa McCarthy's style and body type (which I like) is judged not on the merits of the ''who" and the composition of the actress' body demands, but on how close she is to getting smaller to compare with the standard of these times? The way a big woman moves has its own sensuality with a dynamic that moves with and against the flow of beauty and the harshness of perception. Looking at big women is an interesting study of oneself when trying to be honest, or kind trying to be hip." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 8.22.15

SEEING Beauty

Nightcap Clothing

classic African American beauty

You have to ponder the things of Beauty. The beautiful things are perceptions, and perceptions are dependent upon mirrors. What we see is not what another sees. What we feel is the sense of being in a person. It is magical as all the magical things of life are magical. Being beautiful in a small category is not to be compared to the worlds within yourself that transport you from dream of place to places to dream of what is important and capable of stimulating growth in the common houses of the mundane where beauty struggles with creative beings to stay important as an ingredient to good living. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 5.8.13
