We are Standing Rock. One of the most powerful places in the world. The only place in the United States where the government and local authorities keep caution when approaching. Not because of weapons of violence, because there are none. Instead they fear the camp because of prayer and standing as a place where people from all around the world have come to form a community of love, prayer and protection.

We are what corporations fear the most. Free thinking humanity focused on human and civil rights to guide our futures. To protect Mother Earth, and keep our planet safe. To respect heritage and preserve history. To defend indigenous liberties. Despite what Morton county sheriffs try to claim, you have never seen a photo of a protector at an action or at camp with a firearm. Despite what Morton county claims, you have never seen a photo of a mutilated animal on a local ranchers farm. The local government is trying to strike fear into the surrounding ranchers, farmers, and community by spreading false information around the community. We encourage you to get to know us. We are standing rock. We will sit no more.

Why I Dropped Out of the School Food Reform Movement and What We Need to Do Now

I have followed your blog on and off with interest. This piece you wrote is important.

If you look at your suggestions some of them come from the habit of giving power to someone else over your children. Television, for example; shut if off during the formative years, and then, if so inclined, monitor it in the later years of elementary school. But, television is not fundamental to child rearing.

In respect to food you can only exhibit or not exhibit a relationship with the Earth, our Mother. You, and other food activists and American parents are strangely separated from the land. Planting food can afford a person a relationship with the sanctity of the ancient process. Instead most people are disconnected from this worldview. In its place is the energies, and paradigms the major corporations create from. Until you are different than the spirit of the people who came here to Turtle Island from Europe you will continue to get the same results, and live in your head disconnected from both the Womb, and the land custom of an ancient way of living with the Earth, our Mother!

American's give their children away, and believe in what others can do for their children. The love of fighting I guess is so important that many parents give their children to school's, and enjoy being engaged in the complaint and leery of the solutions. I've seen it many times throughout the years I was raising my children. I don't know how mine would have fared had not their father been an Indian and an African deeply connected to his roots and our Mother, the Earth.

I know American history, and its long disdain for the way indigenous people live, but we are all suffering from what the whites brought to this land. Together we can work it out and become powerful and become a new people in the deepest sense of the word. But, the work to get there is tremendous. It begins with unlearning all we know.

There is another suggestion. We can feed our children wholesome meals for breakfast and dinner. Lunch at school can be wonderful juices in a thermos, with a healthy something to munch on. A liquid lunch would be nice. What should coincide with food would be playtime outdoors everyday. But, American administrators are spiteful, and mean towards children. It is in their policies.They have the powers over our children in large part I suspect because what qualifies them are the attributes we tell our children they need in order to succeed. Nature is a living example of how communities live in harmony. If you go into the forest or mountain and sit still and watch, ask yourself, what lessons are being taught? See how conflict is handled. Can you see acts of forgiveness? Can you spot respect? Nature is full of wisdom if we will only consider her to be our teacher.

One of the greatest gifts of Wisdom Keeper, the Clan Mother of the Second Moon Cycle, to humankind is the understanding of nonthreatening, safe space. Learning to honor the truth has many ways to teach us about authentic friendship. When we create a safe space for others, we have tapped the Remembering, which teaches us that the external safe space we can create for others reflects our internal safe space, which has eliminated negative judgements. Is it time to look at someone you know who has these gifts and use that person as your role model?

Sioux Indian chief calls all nations to action on June 21, 2012

The leader of the Lakota Dakota Nakota Oyate, the great Sioux nation, is a man with a vision. Chief Arvol Looking Horse sees a great danger threatening "Grandmother Earth" and a great hope for restoring her wholeness. So he is calling all nations to prayer of any kind on June 21 in an effort to return the planet to bala

nce, the people to spirit. I asked him why this path is the right path to take.

"A man or a woman without spirit is very dangerous," Looking Horse explained in a recent phone interview. According to this Sioux chief, the absence of spirit is causing suffering everywhere. "We are in a time of survival," he said. "But we don't want to believe it because we have forgotten our spirits. We have forgotten that Grandmother Earth has a spirit." Disconnected souls, according to Looking Horse, are "hurting others without even knowing they are hurting others." Those being hurt include animals, trees and waterways.

The Sioux have an inclusive worldview, but it was not shared by the transplanted Europeans who undertook genocide on Indian land, culminating in the Wounded Knee massacre of 1890. That final brutality broke the "hoop" binding Indians together; however, Sioux prophecy foretold that in a hundred years the people would be reunited.

Although surviving tribe members and their descendants were stripped of religious freedoms (returned to them only 32 year ago by the U.S. government), the rituals were kept and the prophecy not forgotten. So the Sioux nations set out on horseback to "mend the broken hoop" of their nation in 1986 at a sacred site known to non-Indians (and Close Encounters of the Third Kind fans) as Devils Tower or the Great Horn Butte; their ritual went on for four years and concluded in 1990, 100 years after Wounded Knee.

During the course of that long ritual, Looking Horse was surprised by a vision that came to him of peace and unity that included not only the Indian nations but all the nations of the world, each gathering with ritual plants around sacred fires on every continent. The Sioux chief felt called to oversee a much broader mending. But who was going to listen even to the chief of a people largely ignored in the country where they lived?

"We had to leave our homeland to be a voice in the world," said Looking Horse. "We are up against a lot of violence and anger and hatred. We need to go back to our sacred places and pray about this. In every generation, there are changes. But our way of life, our ceremonies, our prayers don't change. Our sacred sites don't change.

"When the first non-Indian came to this land, our people said, 'What shall we call this man?' and they called him Wasicu," he continued. "It means 'takes fat,' which we know today means the white brothers are taking fat off Mother Earth. Long ago, when the first nations lived on Turtle Island, through our prayers and ceremonies, we maintained harmony and peace, a way of life where there's no ending, no beginning.

"It's everyday life for us that we hold Grandmother Earth sacred, we hold the trees and the plants, everything has a spirit. We need people to be really respectful for each other. The Great Spirit put us here all together. If we're going to survive, we need to have spirit and compassion. On June 21 we're asking people to go to their sacred places or sacred spaces to pray."

Looking Horse seems surprised to be a global spokesperson for the environment. "It seems like it was just yesterday when a woman had no voice in this country, when our people were fighting for their rights," he said. "Just a hundred years ago, our people were in concentration camps called reservations. Our ceremonies were outlawed, and we were put in boarding schools. I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to the White House. Now today, people all over the world are listening to us."

And here's the message. "On June 21," said Looking Horse, "shut off the electricity and let's pray."

When Saul asked Don Miguel Angel to clarify the confusion over the date, Don Miguel Angel answered by saying, that it’s not really about a particular date. He encouraged us to meditate and check in to what we feel connected to within our truth and to follow our intuition with what resonates.

This is the same message that the Mayan Grand Elder Wakatel Utiw / Wandering Wolf /Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj has been saying. Dr. Calleman in fact also echoes this sentiment by saying that “it’s not about a date, it’s a process.”

So regardless of the actual culminating date, which is really not an “end” anyway but rather a new beginning, we are in the midst of a great transformation and we are waking up to the truth of who we are.

The Ancient Mayans forsaw this time of great change and connectivity. Their vision and focus was on this age that we are living in. I believe this portal has already opened. I feel within me that the message that all these great teachers have confirmed is aligned.

Listening to the great wisdom shared by Don Miguel Angel was tremendous. I was moved by the experience and wanted to share some of the things that stayed with me. One of the most potent messages Don Miguel Angel shared was the importance to live our truth, to experience our own Divinity. ”Cielo… nirvana…heaven” are inside.

He said many masters have left the planet so we could lead this life by ourselves but not alone. In having moved on to other realms they are always with us, helping us. He said it’s time to find the “INNER TEACHER inside you, who you are, develop a real connection with the knowledge and wisdom inside of you.”

Profound words.

“Increase the life and love inside yourself” he advised and with complete relaxation, have faith and be inspired.

“We are the children of the Earth. We are Beings of the Sun. We are light.”

We are the center points between the cosmos and the earth, we are the connecting points between the roots of the earth and the branches of the cosmos. He said beautifully, “part of our being is connected to the stars and part of our being is connected to the Earth.”

As we are undergoing this re-alignment, and our planet is re-calibrating into balance, we are also internally mirroring this transformation. You can read more about these changes here and here.

In order to help balance and ground some of these energies, we should visit power places in nature if they are calling us. The Earth Mother is emanating powerful healing light grids in many spots all over the world.

Don Miguel Angel said that these sacred sites are catalysts that can open us to new energies, but know that wherever we are, we can access them within.

So remember that it’s not about a particular date. Like Don Miguel Angel said, find what is true for you and what resonates with you. The time is now. Tune in through your inner frequency. Find your teacher within and be present.

An overwhelming reaction to Chief Raoni seems to be about his piercings, and his lip not his pain, or his concerns, or the issues  he brings before the whole world. The crassness of us in the Western world, and our disrespect and our unbelievable facility at trivializing enormous and complex problems is far worse a scar, or a piercing, or tattoo within our being for indigenous peoples  to overcome, and get around to keep their sacred lands, and traditions alive as they stand humbly in front of world governments, and corporations!

If their presence is so odious, and renders us  incapable of hearing their plight as we hurry back to the simple-minded pleasures of Twitter, and the micro-managing of minutiae then it is our souls in need of healing. It means Jesus' teachings, and saving grace have proven to be empty, and void of any of the enlightenment, and salvation spoken of for 2,000 years! For centuries Native peoples around the world have had discussions about their plight, and paid attention to their dreams, and the dreams and prophecies of their Holy People concerned about the problem of the new comers who profess Jesus, and progress, acquisition of 'their lands', and the removal of Earth's resources without regards for her. Imagine, if you can, the intellectual and moral dilemna of the tribes faced with the reasoning, and the military might of the newcomers telling them their ways are not the ways of God! And now in the shadows of economic collapse, and the scarcity stories running amok, and Water re-claiming land, and the trembling of the Earth, our Mother those new comers come to Chief Raoni and the peoples he represent, and tell them to dance to their tune to restore order to the lands they threw out of order?

Who are we, and what is it we are doing? What we are doing is dangerous. Pretending to fix a problem and retain things as they are is that healing work? Is that how balance is restored, and transformation gets a grip on human consciousness?- Gregory E. Woods

This disturbs me greatly. I was at a presentation at Howard University two days ago on Meteorology. Present were high school students from around the country who had been studying for two weeks an assortment of subjects and ideas at a Weather Camp hosted by NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences. Each child presented their findings to family, friends, and staff. It was extraordinary. At the end of five hours I spoke because the camp director, Mike Mogil, asked for comments from the audience.


I spoke about the women in different tribes who are responsible for the water. When I spoke about them my hand involuntarily held my stomach the way a woman holds her Womb as if I was embodied by any one of the women of those circles I've met. I could see the correlation between the new technologies and the science around air and water and land and the ancient ways and knowledge of indigenous nations around and with water. The two can and should come together. The director was astounded.


"Who are you and who are  you with?" he asked.


I told him, and he said, "We need to talk afterwards."


We did and I learned the people in his field of interests have been unsuccessful connecting with the American Indian communities.


"We have, obviously," he said; "connected with the Black American community, the Hispanic and white communities. But..."


I mentioned Swift Otter's vision of building sustainable environmental community for his people, the Menominee, and I thought of other people to introduce, but the time was short and the space for such things was not there on the Howard University campus. So we exchanged cards.


My cousin Amber Liggett is 16 years old. She was one of the select students in the Weather Camp. In her talk she addressed the large islands of plastic in the oceans. Masterfully, she painted the picture with her words of our trash making a circle and coming back to slap us in the face. It seems to be an irreversible cycle. Answering a question she illustrated how the plastics and trash in the water can be picked up but it would more than likely be buried in land fills! I reason we are in a fix because there are limits to that solution, and if we send the trash to outer space we add to an overflow of trash already circling the Earth's atmosphere. If what can be burned is burned it adds to the pollution in the air joining volcanic ash in the air that is already a threat to air travel!


When I spoke before this small assembly I remember saying what my friend Pam Tinker says often, "A man's religion is revealed in the way he treats water." Ponder that and take this in:


The U.S. government wants to flood more of the land of the Winnemem, and refuses to acknowledge they exist somehow. This occurs in the open. It is easy to suffer this much in the United States with most eyes focused on the glitter of trivia, and inconsistent notions of freedom. The myopic approach to the problem of pollution seems to be merely focused on tobacco smoking to the exclusion of the myriad and complex problems of the near end results of philosophies, ideologies and practices of desecration common to the advancement of European powers, and the perpetual motion of misdirection by the illusions created by the image makers of North Americans who don't know how to own their images, or relate in a sacred manner with the Earth, our Mother!


The time is now. The time is right now to focus the nation away from the idiot and self-servicing reasoning, and justifications for destroying water, land and air. Our children do not yet understand the relationship of the US government to the indigenous people of the land. They don't understand how nefarious and dangerous it is the waters of activism, and how deeply entrenched  notions of dominance and superiority are alive within industries, and large segments of the United States. AMERICAN PASTIME: denial

The deep and long legacy of fears the Europeans carried with them to the Americas needs more attention than causes. Causes are worthwhile, but the strange nature of Western causes exacerbates the problems. The resistance to do what I call 'root work' supports the frantic efforts to undo established structures of thought centuries old to save animals, and habitat from the unchecked ravages of a beast that knows no bounds, respects nothing feminine, nor understands sacredness of land, or the language of animals and plants or the Earth, our Mother. Causes do not know how to bridge the gaps between four aspects of human beings. Causes are intellectual endeavors fueled by emotions, but ungoverned by spirit. The body of truth about dysfunctional relationships with all of Creation is the best way to describe funded causes to save this and to save that. One of the prophecies predicts that the waters would turn red. The Blood of the mother is within her veins and she is bleeding, oil, liquid blood money. I have watched for the signs of the wisdom keepers and now I know that it is time to go to higher grounds, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Now's the time to lift the veil and use our minds to create change. All things are created first through our thoughts. Thoughts are living things, and when your minds and spirits come together, power becomes divine. I can now see, the next step I need to take.

LESS OF LIFE

I have been alarmed for decades at the rate of speed of the decline of the insect, bird and animal nations in my part of the world. The loss glares in our faces and surprisingly does not cause outrage only mild commentary. I do all I can including being mindful of the indigenous plants in my yard and the seeds we plant.  I talk to those nations. Always have.

                       

The most frightening thing, for me, was by a fire in the Virginia mountains one night a couple years ago. I couldn't sleep at first because there were no insects in the woods. Bird sound was non-existent and to sleep, rest, stalk or hunt in a forest with none of these sounds is deadly. With no indicators of hunting animals bears, coyotes, foxes it is dangerous in the forest at night. The only thing I could rely upon was my Medicine, my senses, the fire, my Spirit guides, the Creator's wishes for my life, and the relationship I’ve held for years with the Earth, our Mother. These are dangerous times, but without the relationships between the worlds upon, within and above the Earth, our Mother we will discover a loneliness and aloneness prophesies have not foretold perhaps because the prophets we listen to are not Mothers, or Grandmothers. – Gregory E.
