Is America Reaping What It Has Sown

Iraq was not a mistake from the perspective that the U.S. invaded the country based on faulty intelligence. America purposely invaded this sovereign nation and executed its leader for reasons that I will not speculate on at this moment. Yes, Saddam was a brutal dictator, and he launched a biological attack against his own citizens; however, the irony is cruel when one considers that the U.S. has its own history of brutality against its citizens; engaged in medical genocide against blacks; and exposed the Native Americans and its own citizens with biological agents.


Even if we concede that Saddam was as depraved as the U.S. claimed that he was; this is not a sufficient reason to overthrow him in a United Nations’ led coup d’état and execute him for capital offenses. If so, then which brutal dictator is next? Kim? Ahmadinejad? Medvedev? Hu Jinatao? I mean we can create a list of international leaders that deserve the same fate as Saddam; however, even if brutality against one’s citizens and neighbors is the litmus test for being overthrown, the United States is in no moral position to make such judgments if one considers…

· The Tuskegee syphilis experiment where the National Institutes of Health (formerly the Public Health Services) violated every medical protocol using African American men as laboratory animals to study the effect that syphilis had on them (some believe that the U.S. injected the black men with syphilis, but I have not found such in my research);

· The Gulf of Tonkin incident that illegally expanded the War in Vietnam;

· The overthrow by the Eisenhower administration of the Iranian Prime Minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh;

· The overthrow of Chile’s democratically elected president, Salvador Allende, by the Nixon Administration;

· The October Surprise when George H.W. Bush secretly tampered with the 1980 presidential elections by securing an agreement with Iran to release the hostages after the elections; and

· The Iran-Contra Affair.

In the epic film Gladiator, there is a moment of deep contemplation by Marcus Aurelius where he rhetorically asks Maximus, “How will the world speak my name in years to come? Will I be known as the philosopher? The warrior? The tyrant? Or will there be a more golden sounding to my name? Will I be the Emperor who gave Rome back her freedom?” In a moment of unguarded speech, after conquering the Germanians, Caesar was concerned about his legacy. Maximus tries to insulate him from his anxiety attack by offering, “Sire, you brought the light of the gods to barbarian darkness. You have brought civilization to the farthest…” And then Caesar interrupts him and declares, “I have brought the sword…nothing more! Rome is far away and we shouldn’t be here." 

Marcus Aurelius asked the question that eventually all great leaders contemplate, but in a moment of unvarnished truth, he answers his own by replying, “…we shouldn’t be here." 

How will history judge the United States? “... How will history judge the United States? Will it depict America as the benevolent crusader that it portrays itself, or will history be more candid and juxtapose its generosity and goodwill with its dark side? One cannot write a history about the United States without telling the story of its philanthropy; however, the story that shines brighter than its willingness to come to the aid of those who are less fortunate, is American aggression. This country was birthed in revolution and along the way annihilated nearly 200,000 innocent Japanese with the dropping of two atomic weapons; the only country to have done so. 

Most historians, who have written about the American Revolution that I have studied, seem to take for granted that the war was just; however, there is no consensus that holds the U.S. blameless for the nuclear weapons that were dropped on Japan in World War II. Some argue that it saved tens of thousands of lives by bringing the war to a swift end, but there are those, including Daniel Goldhagen who has written Worst than War, Genocide, Eliminationism and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity, where he argues that Japan was on the brink of surrender and was negotiating the terms of its surrender when America dropped the bombs. He argues that history should consider President Truman a war criminal for his decision to drop the bomb on a totally vanquished opponent. This was not supposed to be a tribute. I had scheduled to post this essay of David's weeks ago, and I'd been going through David's vast archives for pieces we could discuss, or elaborate upon on and off for years. 

I found out yesterday, David Tolson, died suddenly a couple days ago. He was my friend since our teenage years. With similar in style parents David, his brothers, my siblings and I grew adults our parent's were proud of, and respected. I am heavy now with the thoughts that come as one gets older, and your peers close in intellectual prowess, curiosity, impeccability of spirit die leaving you here with what is left to explore both within and around us in this world. - Gregory r

Slaying a Herd of Sacred Cows

The patterns, the structures that set the beliefs that conduct action from particular mindsets is more important to change than the definitive terms conservative or liberal. To preserve old traditions or be free. That is a better view of the energies that govern lawmakers, and the public, and say, "I am a Republican, or I am a Democrat.".

We can go back and forth with this, but within the Republican party's mindset was and still is a deep resistance to the basic commitment to do the things necessary to insure better futures for the coming generations. Deep within the ranks of the conservative consciousness there is a dogged insistence to be consistent in our inconsistencies. 

During the Bush administration the country watched in horror as the Congress (both sides) allowed a weak president much despised prior to 9/11/01) free reign to do and spend what he wanted for the weakest of reasons. Taking the country from surplus to debt is a triumph, a coup? 

There is a fundamental flaw in the thinking of the Republican party that is steeped in the Old South. It is no secret, and it is heavily defended with the language of liberal (free) thinkers easily because of the miseducation of a growing number of graduates from American schools... - Gregory E. ...  the reflex artist in me is reminded of a conversation that I had with a waitress who served me at Black Eyed Pea before it went out of business years ago. Ms. G and I use to eat there about twice a week, and one day I queried the waitress about her station in life. By interacting with her over the course of a few months, I noted that she was a little rough around the edges, but with a few charm-school lessons, she could be a top waitress at any of the finest DC restaurants.

I said to her one afternoon: "I'm not sure what your goals are in life, but I can tell by the way you carry yourself here, that waiting tables at Black Eyed Pea is only a pit-stop. What are you really doing with yourself and what are your goals."

She responded in a matter of fact manner as if we were former high school class mates catching up on old times: "My mother told me, "You better learn how to work your Pussy, because you will only rise as far as your Pussy will take you." I almost fell for it. I have three children by two different men and spent years on welfare, but then it occurred to me that working my Pussy was going to destroy me, as it did my mother and grandmother. So I have childcare assistance to put my children in daycare, and I'm now in school at GW at night taking up nursing. I should be finished in about two years."

Of course, I commended her for the recognition that life had much more to offer than a sack-mate. My point is that life has always had women who were as predatory as the men. I think in some circles they are called "Gold-diggers," and once one crosses that threshold of simply using their sexual appetite to satisfy a need, sexual pleasure or otherwise, they completely miss the profound nature and primary purpose of sex, plus it is difficult to reverse course once you tread down that slippery slope. - David R. I can join you in the hearing of such advise. I met an older woman on the subway train years ago who told me her aunt told her that "... a wet pussy and an empty pocket book don't go together!" I've thought about it and written about over the years, and found ways to flesh out in ceremony, or workshops the whys of this spirit mindset.

There are two roles in this dynamic: male and female. It would take too long to go into it all, but the analysis of it all is dependent upon the courage and the fear of men and women to unearth the birth place of their nature's stories, their lies, and the stories that form their creation stories. The Mystery of Iniquity – Part II

I am publishing a five-part series on a rarely discussed subject called the mystery of iniquity. I am writing this out of deep concern that the body of Christ has ignored the signs that the end is, not near, but here. I gave my life to Jesus Christ 31 years ago, and during that period of spiritual renewal for me and my family, there was a revelry that bordered on maniacal that Jesus could return any moment. Since my conversion, I have witnessed the self destruction of many prominent (and not so prominent) Church officials and lay-members alike, and I have seen the enthusiasm for Christ’s return sink to a low that I would have never imagined. 

The first article will discuss Satan’s two thousand year’s plan to harness control of human government. The second article will examine the Church where Satan had established his corporate headquarters. Oh, did I say it was a prominent Christian Church? The third article will discuss Satan’s rebellion in heaven, which led to the expulsion of one-third of the heavenly host. And the fourth and fifth articles will tie it all together by examining the last decade and demonstrating how events have hurled human civilization closer to the poisoned embrace of the anti-Christ.


The clandestine nature of Satan requires that he works in a concealed manner to advance his agenda on an unsuspecting human population. From his first appearance in the Scripture when he cajoled Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit to this moment in time, he has deceived the masses and is now leading them in a race where they are creating and embracing the infrastructure for their own enslavement – cell phones; digital television; ATM technology (aka cashless society); the Internet; a ubiquitous web of cameras, created in name of national security; etc. For more than two thousand years, Satan has been working behind the scenes to create a fertile environment for civilization to betray the final vestige of human dignity by bowing down and worshiping his chosen global leader – the anti-christ.

Neither heaven nor earth has been immune to Satan’s sleight of hand. He deceived angels after purposing in his heart that he would be like God – 12. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13. For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High (Isaiah 14:12-14). Satan has been around long enough to have perfected his deception of men and women: From the lowliest non-skilled workers to the captains of industry and leaders of the free world, they have all tasted from the hand that offered the forbidden fruit. How do leaders of human governments embrace a Holocaust, or an Inquisition, or slavery, or war on a scale that leaves rape, pillage and mass murder in its wake?

Satan!

Not only has Satan led conquests of annihilation in national governments, like when he attempted to erase the Jews from the face of the earth through the Third Reich, but he has also wrested control of local churches from its leadership. Jude warned of evil men who have surreptitiously crept into the church:

3. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 3-4).

These men, who crept in without the knowledge of the pastors and other church leaders, are in places where they are doing significant harm to local congregations. Consequently, the warning is more of a plea for the saints to be zealous in their effort to live righteously. By earnestly contending for the faith of their forefathers, there would be a difference between those living for Jesus and those who were pretending to live for him. And this distinction would make it much easier to identify those who were secretly infecting the lives of the saints of God.

Throughout the Church Age, Satan has dispatched his minions to peddle their evil wares within local congregations. We see the covert effort that was identified in Jude’s letter to the Church, and John wrote of similar activity within three of the churches in Asia-minor:

• The church at Ephesus was entertaining men who claimed to be apostles, but were not – I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars (Revelation 2:2);
• Evil men claiming to be Jews had infiltrated the church at Smyrna –I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan (Revelation 2:9); and
• The New Testament Jezebel was discovered at Thyatira teaching God’s children how to commit fornication – 19. I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols (Revelation 2:19-20).

The Church at Thyatira sunk to new lows: The saints were being taught how to enhance their sexual pleasure, or the "art of sex," from the pulpit. I use the phrase, "art of sex" loosely, since the scripture says the saints were being taught to commit fornication. Therefore, in this instance, the emphasis is not on training the saints on the "art of sex," which would be totally permissible in a married couples' setting, but on sexual depravity. Jezebel turned the holy, House of God into into an habitation of unrighteousness.

The clandestine incursions into the Church by satanically inspired men and women have been occurring since the Apostolic Age. However, when the early Church fathers detected these wolves in sheep’s clothing, they did not tolerate them for one minute – 4. And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5. To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you (Galatians 2:4-5).

What is ironic about each of the above incursions into the Church is that these wicked disciples of Satan were able to sneak past the ushers at the door, the deacons on the front row, the elders in the pulpit and the pastor at the head of the Church. In fact, before Paul left Ephesus, he warned them that notwithstanding his three years of labor among them, that wolves would come in to destroy the flock once he departed:

28. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears (Acts 20:28-31).

And we see the manifestation of what Paul prophesied in Revelation 2, where the men claiming to be apostles had entered the Ephesian Church.

It cannot be overemphasized how deceptive Satan and his disciples are. I propose that Paul’s warning in II Corinthians about their stealth should be placed at the entrance of every Church that worships Jesus Christ – 14. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness (II Corinthians 11:14-15). This warning will not prevent Satan’s ministers from attempting to slip into a church congregation, but it will be a constant reminder to the Church officials to be vigilant regarding the motives of everyone who enters the Church.

There is an old saying that goes, “Satan is smart, not because he is the devil, but because he is old.” He has a lot of years on us all. To put the saying in perspective; consider how much you knew at 20 years old compared too how much you know today. Now if I can exaggerate to make my point...if you could live another 500 years, consider how much knowledge you would have accrued compared too how much you have now. Satan was created in eternity and cast down into the earth more than 6,000 years ago; consequently, he has the accumulated knowledge of his tenure in heaven and earth at his disposal.

Satan has been wreaking havoc in the earth for thousands of years; consequently, it should come as no surprise that he has controlled his kingdom from the pulpit of a prominent Church on at least one occasion: The Church at Pergamos suffered the unfortunate distinction of being Satan’s central headquarters – 12. And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; 13. I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth (Revelation 2:12-13).

The scripture seems to be silent on Satan’s motivation for establishing his headquarters in the Church of Pergamos, and my research into this Church did not offer me much more than I see in the scripture. However, this is very significant that Satan is running his kingdom from within God’s House. It is an unprecedented foray into the Church, where he not only created a fertile environment for saints to freely engage in sexual promiscuity, but he also had one of God’s faithful men murdered (see verse 13 above). It is not completely clear why Satan used the Church at Pergamos as his headquarters, but we can reasonably conclude that he intended to destroy it.

Jesus told us that Satan’s only motivation for showing up is to steal, kill and destroy – The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10a). Of all the public, private and religious institutions of the world, one would think that the Church of Jesus Christ is the last place that he could set up shop undetected. However, Revelation 2 is a buttress to how clever and deceptive Satan is, so it would be mistaken to consider that other institutions are immune from his lethal encroachments.  by David Tolson

I once read a book where a CIA operative was assigned to prevent the assassination of the Chinese President. He started out in the blind, not knowing any of the details of the conspiracy that most likely would have caused World War III. However, as he pursued every lead to discover who would kill China’s President, he found out that it was a faction within the U.S. government that wanted to create instability in China for economic and strategic reasons. Since he was just a field agent, he knew that he could not convince his superiors that a number of their colleagues were conspiring to assassinate one of the great world leaders of his time. Consequently, he decided to continue in his effort to capture the gunman.

Once the operative uncovered the conspiracy at the upper echelons of the U.S. government, a “hit” was placed on him to remove him from the trail. The conspirators even tried to kill his girlfriend, whom he loved dearly, so he was forced to protect himself and her, while traveling around the globe to locate this unknown assassin.

The operative was able to forge a couple of passes for him and his girlfriend to attend the international forum where the president was to be assassinated. He roamed the convention floor as a delegate, while his girlfriend gained entry as a camerawoman with the international press corps. Much to his horror, while analyzing the ballroom floor as the President of China entered, he discovered that his girlfriend was the assassin. As close as this man was to his girlfriend, he had no idea that she was being paid to kill the president of another country. In fact, she was working against everything that he held sacred as an American patriot. 

The above story is an excellent example of how Satan has forged his way through human history. He never shows up with a pitchfork in his hand; but rather as a harmless dove, or as the loving woman who sleeps in the bed with an unsuspecting mate. God has warned us of his clever nature – 14. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness (II Corinthians 2: 14-15a). 

Satan’s ability to guile goes beyond most people’s ability to comprehend. He has been deceiving the masses since the B.C. period of the Pharaohs, and every civilization has fallen prey to his spell and cunning ability to transform a barren landscape into the appearance of an oasis. In II Thessalonians, the Apostle Paul reveals something about Satan that is essential in understanding the depth of his ability to deceive; that he shrouds his godless, wicked and deceptive nature through mystery.

1. Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2. That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4. Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6. And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way (II Thessalonians 2:1-7, emphasis mine).

A theological mystery, as we see in verse 7 above, is something that baffles the understanding and cannot be explained without the aid of a divine revelation. The furtive nature of Satan’s involvement in human history should have come as no great surprise to the saints, and Paul’s letter to Thessalonica was not intended to inform them that the devil operates a secret agenda. It was written to calm the anxiety of saints who believed that Jesus was soon to return. Paul gave them some landmark signs that would signal the era of Christ’s return: First, there would be a great falling away from the church; and second, the man of sin would be revealed. 

What is significant in Paul’s message to the Church is that forces have been aligning themselves since the Apostolic Age to prepare civilization for the poisoned embrace of the anti-christ. By identifying the mystery of iniquity, God has warned the Church of a wicked, end-time (anti-christic) government that will surreptitiously come upon the inhabitants of the earth. What is more stunning, however, than the secret and diabolic nature of this end-time government, is the fact that it has been evolving since the first century A.D. Paul warned the Christians at Thessalonica that the mystery of iniquity doth already work (see II Thessalonians 2:7a above).

Since the early Church-Age, Satan has been perfecting his plan to enslave the civilizations of the earth. He has done it furtively in an effort to deal the final blow to the role of human government. Some things are self-evident: if the inhabitants of the earth realized that a satanic attack on humanity loomed on the horizon, many of them would turn to Jesus. However, this is not going to be the case. Not only will they not resist his assault, but according to the Scripture, they will adore him after he rises – And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). How clever it will be for the Devil to deceive the world into worshiping him. 

The Thessalonican Church did not witness the great falling away as prophesied by Paul. In fact, notwithstanding the persecution of the time, they experienced an era of great church growth. As men and women laid down their lives for the Gospel, it inspired many new converts to follow Jesus. However, we are experiencing the falling away; consequently, one of the two prongs that Paul predicted that would precede the return of Jesus is prevalent in our modern age.

Now the revealing of the man of sin is tricky. Some have used this part of Paul’s prophesy to teach that the rapture will not take place until the rise of the anti-christ, which suggests that the Church will go through at least a portion of the Great Tribulation Period, while others say that verse 7 proves that the anti-christ cannot rise until the church and the Holy Ghost are taken out of the earth – only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way (II Thessalonians 2:7b). 

The teaching on the rapture is beyond the scope of this article, and I am not attempting to suggest my position on it at this time. The revelation of the man of sin may suggest that the Church will not be taken out of the earth until after the rise of the anti-christ. However, it could mean that God will reveal who this man of sin is to prophets in the body of Christ prior to his ascension to the throne of human government; which would theoretically permit a pre-tribulation rapture. For the time, I’ll leave this argument up to the theologians. If we look at the big picture and not the details for a moment, the logical question here is not when the rapture is, but whenever it is, will I be ready? 

As we examine the body of Christ, and witness this great falling away, one must wonder if some in the Church leadership are playing their violins as the Titanic sinks. I’m certain that I am not the only one asking how such apathy eroded the apostolic age enthusiasm for serving Jesus, or the enthusiasm that was prevailing just 30 years ago. A simple pedestrian examination of the Church seems to suggest that there is no corporate urgency that we are living in the last days and that Jesus is soon to appear. In Part II of this article, I will address why this is so.

Huntington, from Harvard University, predicted that whites would "create an America that would exclude, expel, or suppress [blacks and Hispanics...which] is a highly probable reaction from a once dominant ethnic-racial group that feels threatened by the rise of [these] groups. Those who know him and his body of work would understand that these are not idle words spoken by some right-wing lunatic. After 9/11 he was the most quoted authority on the conflict between the West and Islam. In fact, he predicted it in 1993 in his Foreign Affairs article title The Clash of Civilization, and then he followed up the best selling article with a book of the same title in 1996. What I thought was profoundly baffling was that in 2004 after the release of Who Are We? where he recommended the eviction of blacks and Hispanics from America, there were only 4 black people at his book signing at Politics and Pros - me, my wife, my son and another black sister...I'm sorry, 5 blacks, if you count the guy who was protesting out front from Lyndon Larouche's organization.

A friend once asked me who the most significant person in the twentieth century was. It was his position that Albert Einstein trumped all others because of his theory on relativity. The applications of Einstein’s theory are breathtaking, and it is quite possible that there would be no modern society as we know if it were not for E=MC². To a mathematician, the equation has a certain elegance; to an engineer the equation advanced theoretical physics and was the catalyst of many great inventions; to the multinational corporation it permitted its CEO to bark instructions out to his staff over a global network; to the small businessperson it had a trickle-down affect as he/she benefited from the commerce that was created at the top of the economic/business food-chain; to the hard working citizen, though its impact may have been transparent, it opened unprecedented opportunities for employment, leisure and entrepreneurship; and to the couch potato it permitted one to remotely surf through anyone of more than 500 channels over satellite/cable/FIOS television. 

For purposes of this article, I’d like to ask/answer the question differently: What was the most significant event of the twentieth century? Notwithstanding the detonation of atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki; or sending men to the moon and returning them safely to the earth; or creating a global, electronic network, it is my position that the modern world as we know it was created by the defiance of four spiritual men: Mahatma Gandhi; the Ayatollah Khomeini; Pope John Paul II; and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I say “spiritual men,” not in the sense that these men were inspired by the same spirituality that may drive you or me, but in the sense that they believed that a power beyond their ability, real or perceived, would aid them in reaching their destiny.

Thank you Gregory, but I humbly submit that it is worse, much worse than what you've said. I'm reminded of those famous lines in the "Charge of the Light Brigade":

Western education is a tool of social control that would be the equivalent of a mother Eagle plucking the feathers of her fledglings and then nudging them out of the nest. However, although I loathe the notion, there are good reasons for a booby-trapped educational system: First and foremost, a mind left to its own survival will automatically seek higher levels of consciousness; consequently, the wicked men who sit in the pantheon of the gods understand that they must spoon-feed us a diet of servitude in order to remove the innate inclination to…as the ancient Egyptians said, “Know thyself,” which is, I believe, the most profound quote ever uttered by human lips.

I’m always looking for inspiration for a new article, and I think I’ve discovered it this morning in this article – Know Thyself! This concept is nearly impossible in a society that disrupts our natural rhythm with creation and the universe on every hand: Why do we celebrate “New Year” in the dead of winter? Why is there a daylight savings time, which alters our body's harmony with creation? Why do we continue to celebrate the destruction of the human species with poor diets, poisoned water and air, and a lack of rest? And add to that, a controlled education designed to have one to ride off into the valley of death…Yours is not to reason why, yours is just to do and die.

Here we go again! The chairmen of the presidential, bipartisan deficit commission recently offered President Obama a slew of sacred cows to be sacrificed on the altar of fiscal responsibility. What makes this abomination of desolation so hypocritical is that former Clinton White House Chief of Staff, Erskine Bowles, and former senator, Alan Simpson (R-Wyo), have hatched a plan to send tax payers to the rescue…again, to save the country from the consequences of nearly 25 years of Conservative rule since 1980. And by the way, I am soliciting suggests for a new label to replace “Conservative.” It has become increasingly difficult to define conservatism. One of the bedrock principles of conservatism has been fiscal restraint; however, this pragmatic approach was killed long ago by President Ronald Reagan.

Reagan, the consummate performer, convinced his goose-stepping followers that trickle-down would benefit the entire country. But what trickle down did was place the nation on a spending binge that nearly caused a global, economic meltdown. To be sure, Reagan’s fiscal policies did not cause the mortgage crisis, the gas crisis, the near insolvency of the U.S, automobile industry, and the banking crisis, but it was the trigger that set the entire nation on a pork-feast at the hyper-deficit trough. If we consider what happened to America economically during the eight years of the Reagan Revolution, it amazes me that anyone who calls themselves a Conservative (there I go with that word again) can still pay homage to his legacy.

When Reagan succeeded President Jimmy Carter in 1981, the public debt was $998 billion, or two notches south of $1 trillion; however, when Reagan passed the baton to George H.W. Bush, the debt had exploded to nearly $3 trillion. This is a staggering demonstration of financial mismanagement. To place this level of reckless disregard in its proper perspective, one must consider that in eight years, Reagan tripled what it took the country 204 years to accrue in deficit spending. This is astonishing! Yet, former President Ronal Reagan is still revered in nearly mythological proportions. In fact, I understand that there is a move by Conservatives (there I go with that word again) to nominate him for a posthumous Nobel Prize.

There are three certainties in life: Death, taxes, and the requirement that every GOP leader genuflect before the portrait of Ronald Reagan that hangs in the headquarters of the Republican National Committee. Why? Because Reagan was the first president to demonstrate that you can overspend beyond your wildest imagination if you could convince the country that an enemy was looming: Reagan, of course, had the former Soviet Union; H.W. Bush had Saddam; and Dubya had bin Laden. Now watch very carefully, because the hands are indeed quicker than the eyes – During the 20-year reign of the Republican presidents since 1980, the United States has spent nearly $8 trillion on defense…you still watching?

· Russia disintegrated without firing one single bullet in self defense;
· Saddam was held up in a hole the size of my walk-in closet; and
· The last I heard, Osama bin Laden was last seen walking through the streets of Anacostia.

Did you see that?

This entire performance took place; not because of the trillions that were spent, but in spite of the trillions it cost the American taxpayers. According to one analysis of global defense spending, the U.S. spends more money on defense than the rest of the world combined. The United States spends nearly 57 percent of all military expenditures world-wide. The runner up to this dubious honor and the bronze medal winner go to China and Russia respectively with a combined military spending of $115 billion, or 10 percent of total global military expenditures. America’s closest NATO ally, France, spends about $45 billion per year, or four percent of the total global military expenditures.

Simple mathematics shows me that NATO is getting a free ride at the expense of the tax payers in this country. So let me make sure I have this right: The presidential deficit commission is recommending the elimination of the sacred mortgage deduction; increasing the age of retirement under Social Security; eliminating “all the expensive and popular deductions,” which almost certainly means cafeteria plans, charitable contributions and childcare deductions; programs to assist the poor would be drastically cut back; and an increase in the amount of income subject to Social Security taxes. To be fair, the Commission is also recommending a $100 billion cut in defense spending, but if we assume that the Military Industrial Complex will just roll over and play dead while the surgeon cuts, this would simply reduce America’s percentage of global defense spending from 57 percent to 48 percent.

But as the old saying goes, “Talk is cheap.” Therefore, in addition to my criticism of the plundering of the American treasury, I offer this recommendation: Let’s go back to where the Conservatives (oops, there I go again) ran off the track during the Reagan administration, and reduce military spending to those 1981 levels. This would erase nearly $400 billion in spending overnight, but here is the good part: The $317 billion defense budget during Reagan’s first year is still three times more spending than China and Russia combined, but what it does additionally is require NATO to shoulder more of the burden for living in a relatively safe world.

Although I do not subscribe to Marxism; I must say that Marx’s case on the misunderstood power of the working class is profound. Now that I’ve made my point, here is the overriding issue: Will you sit back and permit your congressional leaders to take the crumbs that Reagan gave you in trickle down, or will you make your political leaders accountable for the decisions that they make? Perhaps demanding that this nation’s vaunted, overpriced military capture bin Laden would be a great first step. With this nation’s almost surreal intelligence apparatus, unless bin Laden is communicating with carrier pigeon, surely we should have captured him by now…if that was a national priority. However, what seems to be most important to our leaders today is to push back the gains, benefits and amenities afforded to the working class over the last 75 years and not the capture of Osama bin Laden.

And unless a chorus of opposition is heard, over the next few years, the citizenry will be scratching their collective heads, wondering how their politicians did it to them again. Well, here is the memo: It is called forgetting the past. –David R. Tolson, author, scholar

Great piece Greg!! Like the Undertaker in Godfather I, "I Love America;" however, it has purposely diminished the currency of manhood. It has offered a surrogate of sorts called cartoons, toys, sports, etc to help mask the recognition that puberty is not the transition from childhood into manhood, but it is the crossover from childhood to manhood. depending on what authority one listens too, a boy does not become a man until he is 18 or 21; however, nature gives him the tools of manhood during puberty. Would nature permit a child to have children? Absolutely not! Consequently, in our once great nation, manhood is delayed until at least 18 and in most cases...21. Although I do not drink beer and personally detest the smell, if the country will trust 18-20 year old men to defend this nation using some of the most sophisticated instruments of destruction ever devised, then why can't he whip out his military ID and have a drink. We trust him with democracy, but not a few drinks! This notion buys into the delusion that these young men are still children.


How Absurd!

But, when I consider the men who sit in the pantheon of the gods, who direct the activity of civilization, I understand why the idea of manhood must be delayed. It for the same reason that slaves were not permitted to joint the ranks of infantry during the Civil War. If you offer a boy the right of passage at 11 years old, and strip him of his childhood instruments, there is a much better chance that this young man will learn responsibility and possibly develop an ambition that would threaten the men sitting at the control levers of our planet. But keep that same young man tethered to the notion of childhood until he has been fully indoctrinated through grade-school and then college, he will then be more willing to participate in his own destruction.

Am I the only one seeing the humor in this?! Many of us in the West spend 12-20 years in institutions of learning, but come out and work for someone who is destroying our health, our economy, or ecology, or morals, our families, our children, etc., etc., etc.

Is America Reaping What it has Sown - Part I

I’ve often pondered that one of the great surprises of history is that America has never been involved in a coup d’état. Considering the fact that the military chain of command starts at the top with two civilian officers – the President and the Secretary of Defense – it is difficult to believe that none of the brass below has ever attempted to alter that command line through a coup, which is one of the great surprises of American history. Up until a few years ago, the military coup was the most popular method used to transfer governments around the world. Now that Democracy has taken a real foothold in our modern society, the trend seems to be reversing; however, there are generals who still want to hold supreme power, and we must wait and see to determine if coups become a relic of the past.


In a real sense, our nearly 250 years of unbroken civilian leadership is a true testament to the ideal of Democracy. With that being said, do I sense some tension in the ranks over civilian leadership with the publication of the RollingStone’s article titled, “The Runaway General,” where 4-star, General Stanley McChrystal and his staff were dismissive and critical of the President and his administration? As a consequence to this public denigration of the Obama Administration, McChrystal was fired.

Certainly, if McChrystal took the risky approach of criticizing Obama publicly, then one could reasonably argue that this RollingStone’s article was not the first time that he made his opinions known. As urgent as a victory in Afghanistan is to Obama’s presidency, one must wonder why he did not have any informal lines of communication built into his strategic approach to the Afghan War. It is the old Godfather proverb of keeping your enemies close but your friends closer. It is unfortunately an axiom that holds as true today in politics as it did during the 1972 film.

Many organizations use these informal lines of communication – gossip lines, grapevines, rumor-mill, etc. – to keep their fingers on the pulse of how the organization is really thinking. How many regional managers will condemn a firm’s CEO for what they believe are ridiculous policies during a formal, corporate staff meeting? However, that same regional manager is more willing to pour his opposition into the grapevine, and if the CEO has “ears” listening to the grapevine, then he/she will at least have the unvarnished and unguarded opinions of his/her subordinates. Understanding the “pulse” of an organization is essential in a bureaucratic setting, but it becomes imperative during a war, where one wrong policy can spell death and disaster at a minimum, but it could sow the seeds of defeat and destruction of an entire civilization in a worst case scenario.

Although there is no place in the American military for McChrystal’s insubordination, I do see an upside: This incident should place President Obama on notice that there are men in the military who do not embrace his war-time leadership…but after a moment of reflection, shouldn’t he have known that? President Clinton had his detractors during his tenure for lacking military experience, as did George Bush, who got a “cushy” job in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. Obama has no military experience, and he certainly had less international expertise than his predecessors. Consequently, it is self preservation to know of his critics within his own administration, and if not, then his staff is falling asleep at the switch.

Notwithstanding the current shake-up in Afghanistan, the bigger question is Why did President George Bush invade Iraq and Afghanistan? If you said September 11th, then the propaganda campaign of plausible intentions convinced you too. I have written extensively on this blog concerning the egregious mistakes that were made by the Bush administration in planning for war in the Middle East, so I will not rehash the same arguments. Let us back-peddle for a moment and consider the “initial” impulse for our invasion into Afghanistan and Iraq: George Bush wanted to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction; to end Saddam Hussein’s support for terrorism (particularly al-Qaeda); and bring democracy to the Iraqi people. The U.S. went into Afghanistan, because the Taliban run government refused to hand over Osama bin Laden and to discontinue its support of the al-Qaeda terrorist. Both of these motivations appear on their face to be noble objectives: certainly if Saddam had anything to do with September 11th, and if the Taliban was supporting bin Laden, then it would be our leaders’ patriotic and constitutional responsibility to overthrow both governments and bring them to justice. However, after more than seven years in Iraq, we have not uncovered one morsel of evidence that Iraq supported al Qaeda and neither did the Bush Administration find the weapons of mass destruction that we were assured were there. And certainly after nearly nine years in Afghanistan, there are no signs of al Qaeda. The only terrorists that America seems to be fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are the ones that were created because of its occupation in the Middle East.

If we consider that this country’s initial motivation to invade the Middle East was flawed at best and illegal at worst, do we have a moral imperative to apologize? If so, then that responsibility rests squarely on the shoulders of President Obama. But I’m sure that some of the president’s own supporters, who condemned the war initially when it was launched by Bush, will defend him by saying that he had nothing to do with the initial decision to go to war, and his only obligation is to win and get out. Well, isn’t this the same resistance that whites have today about apologizing for the egregious act of slavery that was committed by their forefathers? Why should they have to apologize?

I say that Obama must consider apologizing to preserve America’s moral leadership in the world, and to reverse the law of causality; which says “what goes around, comes around,” or “you’ll reap what you sow.” This is a universal truth, and not even the mighty United States of America can escape the jaws of this divine law.

You’ll see in An Appraisal of the Bush Presidency that I demonstrate that there were clear signs that Bush was headed for disaster when he committed this country’s resources and young men to war. Without an intelligence apparatus, I knew Bush’s “damn-the-torpedoes” pathology in his run-up to war in Afghanistan and Iraq was possibly illegal. And he had at his disposal the resources of the finest intelligence system that the world had ever seen, and he still got it wrong. But, the real question is, do countries such as America make mistakes in judgement of that magnitude? Once you pierce through the propaganda campaign that is designed to condition the citizenry to patriotically embrace the war drums, it is very difficult to consider that Bush had the F.B.I., the C.I.A., the N.S.A., Naval Intelligence, the D.I.A., and a host of other intelligence agencies, and he still fumbled the ball. This is a challenge for me to believe! Consequently, I must conclude that his foray into the Middle East had a deeper purpose that we are not privy to.

If Bush lied about our involvement in a military campaign, he would not be the first U.S. president to do so. More recently, President Johnson expanded the war in Vietnam after lying to the public about an attack on an American military vessel in the Gulf of Tonkin, and President Reagan lied about a private war in Nicaragua where he was funding the Contras, which later became known as the Iran-Contra Affair after the scandal broke. Lying seems to come with the Oval Office. Although Obama did the right thing by firing McChrystal, I would like to hope that this 4-star general stuck to his guns in his private meeting with Obama and did not back away from his criticism. He owes the president an apology for betraying the single rule of conduct that must be followed from the foot soldier to the top in order to preserve discipline among the ranks: He failed to give deference to those who are in authority. However, if he stayed true to his criticism, then hopefully Obama will become stronger as a war-time leader, and a clear message will have been sent to the rank and file that insubordination will not be tolerated. If we fail to grasp those two points, then perhaps this perfect string of 44 democratic elections will be in jeopardy and the divine law of reaping what one sows will rear its unwanted head, if it hasn’t already.

JOB & SOCIAL CHANGE

I had a friendly debate with Dr. Ray Hagins from St. Louise over his assertion that Christianity is a fiction of Egyptian religion. Yes there are some elements of Egyptian religion in all of the major religions. Why? Because Africa is the cradle of civilization, and prior to the great expansion of civilization beyond the African borders, the stories were handed down by oral tradition and taken to other land masses, and therein lies the enigma: if a culture will personify an African tradition and call it his, i.e. Christianity, then I am more interested in his motive than his act. We can all view a murder, but then to find that it was self defense drives the investigation into why.


If the 30 or so people tagged on this note would understand who they are and lived up to the limits of their potential, they could destroy 1,000 years of logistical planning for world control by the aristocracy, something that must be guarded against by any and all costs. And it really doesn't take 30; all it takes is one.

I was in a discussion at the barber shop the other day, and I said, "three institutions in our community that are destroying us: liquor stores, fast food restaurants and churches," and I am devout Christian. One guy said, "Wait a minute. what do you mean, churches?"

I said, "If the the church pastors are parroting what has been taught by the Western theologian, which mush of it has been designed to keep us blind, then by perpetuating falsehood, doesn't that do as much destruction to our spirit as fast food and liquor does to our flesh?" I went on further to ask him if he knew the profession that Job worked in prior to his engagement with the devil, and he said, "No. He did not." I told him, "You're making my point".

"We are all familiar with the story of Job's patience, but that is only the story behind the story. The real story of Job is that he was the greatest social advocate that the world has ever seen [see Job 29]" He was such a powerful spokesman for the widows, the fatherless and those assigned to the margins of society that the Kings were afraid of him. The Scripture says that he reached into the mouth of the beast and grabbed the spoils from its mouth. But as long as we are taught to be patient through trials, then that becomes the metaphor for change, which never comes."

It is not ironic that the world has no idea who the greatest social crusader of all time is, because it does not want us to aspire to be like him. As long as we aspire to be like Mike or some other celebrity, they'll even help us along the way, but as soon as you desire to be like Job or some other great social advocate - King, Gandhi, Pope John Paul II, or the Ayatollah - then you begin to see the beast in all of his high definition, color corrected, digital sound self.

God save the King, and us while you're at it.
