VALENTINE'S DAY!! Not Again!!!

VALENTINE'S DAY

I leave Valentine's Day alone. There is something nonsensical about it. If it is special and focused between a man and his woman why insist children participate? The feel of and the spirit of Valentine's day reaches for something vague and romantic that for me is incompatible with the depth of what lives between my wife and I.

With women men don't know well enough is an expectation that comes with Valentine's Day, and with sex as an end goal where else can a man go with the sentimentality uncomfortably associated with the day, and what does it mean to wish your mother Happy Valentine's Day?

Valentine's DAY?

When I was coming up the twelfth day of February was revered as the day President Lincoln was born, and reading about him was the highlight of the day for me as a child. Negroes around me, adults that is, had a certain hush about them thinking about Honest Abe as their Savior because he freed us.

I would look up, as a child, at these adults and swoon with the knowledge I had about Lincoln from reading from the encyclopedias I had, and from books in the library. I didn't talk about him. I thought about him answering questions people posed to each other in my head. In those days children didn't contribute to adult conversations unless asked, and normally they would never ask a kid an intellectually stimulating question.

Now, by the 12th adults were geared up for Valentine's Day, but Lincoln's birthday was intense and important, and I heard someone note that it came before George Washington's birthday, on the 22nd, and that meant something. Somehow it supported the notion that our freedom was more important than the founding father! It was a silent coup. But, secretly the most important and powerful aspect of the 12th was that it was Daddy's birthday, and Daddy was the most powerful man on Earth!

When I grew up without reading anything of substance about the origin of, or the purpose of Valentine's Day I learned that whatever the origin of the day was it had become the Day of the Dance. Valentine's Day was about pussy

The Day of the Dance has a specific set of rules that guaranteed a meal and romance for the woman, and pussy for the man. Men geared up for this and women preened in anticipation for the beginning of the dance, and not a single one understood why the 14th was designated as a day and a night to work for the reward of sex after romance. Valentine's Day is a ritual, and if a man was young enough a rites-of-passage into the fine art of wine and dining, and red roses and seduction.  - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 2.12.14

VALENTINE'S DAY

Arianny Celeste’s 2012 Complex Magazine photoshoot

VALENTINE’S DAY has since childhood revolted me. I didn’t know why. It just didn’t feel right. I wrote out the cards and gave little girls heart shaped candies saying, “Will you be my Valentine?” Stupid. It was stupid and meaningless to me then, and as an adult the vibe, the feeling was awkward, and vaguely inappropriate. Because it was not something I dwelt upon often I never researched the questions of the day until a few years ago. The historical fact of the ritual explains my initial revolutions and renders the yearly pandering for unauthentic love more comical and tragic... - Gregory E. Woods

VALENTINE DAY'S LOVER

My dear friends, here in Argentina really do not celebrate Valentine's day, but days ago I carefully read that are preparing to celebrate the day of love and friendship .... Impossible to refuse it

Who ever came I do not expect this day to receive a greeting ? A hug? A special kiss, and why not ... until a little present that made us feel any more loved in some way ? and although I admit that me too =) largely reached today I love my friends, my children and my own, I think it's always nice to have with whom to share a special day ... But keep in mind that one day is just that. . one day .. and that love is built every day, with every sunrise and every evening .. with every word, every glance and every gesture between 2 people.

Today from my feeling I am convinced you do not need someone else to feel love, because it reaches with which everyone can feel the whole world ... impersonal love, unconditional, Universal .. but we are human and as humans we always have the desire to create a special feeling about someone and that someone us also generates a different feeling .. Also happens to me, clear that yes =)

I just ask that on this day so sweet for many, so important to others and so sensitive to so many who are lonely, we are clear and aware that to celebrate one day, we must first know celebrate life side by side .. celebrate love as it really deserves to be celebrated.

Whom we accept as it really is next .. not idolize it, do not try to change it .. do not judge .. not expect that we will meet the expectations that we know ourselves to give us .. Do not criticize that does not behave as we would like .. not ever hurt him .. do not try to impose anything. Instead let the love flow as it should be .. as given and simply let it be free and happy .. stay with us the desire to be just and not by obligation.

If we love and that love is no .longer with us, drink to him It's the best gift you can ask us and who ever made us happy and with whom we share part of our lives. Forgive .. about all that .. let's forgive and love the One who dwells in that person because it is simply a soul that crossed into our lives for any reason and is not guilty for not staying next to us .. Just accept that and pass the time .. he did what he could, what he learned, and not think about the pain that yields its absence, but in the joy he gave us his presence at the right time .. Life is so .. present moments that are experienced when they should be .. here and now. What remains of a relationship, is only a memory trace that can maybe still hurt, but surely with the passing of .the days spent too In return we enjoy the happiness of every day, because with that said we are open to do our best to reach this ever ..

Love, are not indifferent to anyone ..
Enjoy .. accept, and above all, blessed presence in their lives each and every learning that leaves us. Let us be aware that no one arrives by chance at our history and likewise, we also come to the history of the other to change their reality at a given time, simply because it should be so
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ! The children, couples, friends, neighbors, the world, but LOVE .. and then if, will have reason to celebrate this day and every day of your beautiful lives. - Kahealani Sisson Satchitananda

VALENTINE'S DAY #2

"Valentine's Day has never resonated with me. It has a weird vibe as if it comes from somewhere without love but demand. So I am always intrigued by young men who pour so much into the sentiment of the day, and somehow capture the very nature of the historical truth of the day." -Gregory E. Woods
