Black model for Dhymon House |
Black model for Dhymon House
reminds me some of the feeling in
the early 1970's. There was a tremendous amount of pride in Black folks' hearts
when a Black model showed up in a magazine, any magazine. It was so rare. When
Black pride expanded, and major corporations did the math the game of fashion
changed out of fear, and profit margins.
Pat Evans, one of the pioneers in
fashion went even further when she went bald, and conveyed the strength of the
power of her being. The dynamics of Black Women's beauty were re-examined.
I am reminded of this within this
model for the House of Dhymon, and a part of me wonders how much of her history
and the legacy we left young Blacks are they aware of? If it is a little, or
none at all it is our fault to a larger degree, but as an adult Black Americans
need to invest in knowing more about themselves than educated, and thoughtful
white Americans do.” – Gregory E. Woods
