TATTED UP!

“I hesitate to criticize, but the levels of immaturity, tragic denial, fear, ignorance of so much is overwhelming. The bondage he embraces is beyond the scope of my understanding. I have seen many men, many Black and White men bereft of so much dignity in their lives further complicate the chances of being human, being a man in the deepest sense of the word, by what they do. I have never met a hoodlum, or a gangster not dominated and driven by fears. Fear is a beast within pushing and dragging these men down dark corridors, and the very fears that made them mean, made them mean what they say, and do what they do on the streets, and prisons is the same fear that devours them alive.

Because so much money is made off of a single inmate, and the law allows slavery for convicted felons to remain chattel a whole psychology is employed to create an identity within the context of slavery, rape, bondage, fear, murder at times, and a deep sense of being devalued. A cat who tattoos his face with $ signs, and non-traditional symbols, and slashes is burying himself in an open grave, and showing how the lack of hope feels, and how the chances of being free appear as dim light on the horizon.” © Gregory E.
