Odin, the old Germanic god, was very wise. But his knowledge he received from two ravens, Hugin and Munin (thought and memory) called, who sat on his left and right shoulders and whispered in his ear what was happening in the world. Additionally, he was also his knowledge by a drink from Mimir's well, which is why he had to give an eye for it. The one-eyed God joined himself as a sacrifice for the people, wounded by his own spear, head first into the world ash Yggdrasil, where he hung for 9 days and nights and thereby invented the runes, which he presented to the people and prostrated to the earth. They were carrying sticks. This resulted in the letters and the font, so Odin was also the God of poets and writers. Odin still chasing invisible in the rough nights (December 24-January 5) in the woods as the "Wild Hunt" - causing a noise as of clattering hooves and tremendous noise and distant voices without anyone being visible.
