Gate Opener.

Lily Tomlin, a genius comedienne!  She was born September 01, 1939.

All these years focused on her talent and the characters she created there was no notion, or focus on her legs, and how pretty she was. Thinking back it was incredible a feat to divert an audience, much less a man, from paying strict attention to these attributes!

'Nothing like a great pair of legs' was a refrain from a commercial at the time this photograph was taken.... - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 4/6/18

Against the LAW!

a Foundational truth to the Surface!

[The] American flag worn disrespectfully is very American. Here in America one can contradict their core beliefs with the myths we operate our lives from and believe in our collective lie(s). It is what makes America Great! - Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories 10/1/017

HOW WE ARE, HOW IT IS.

The 21st century look of Black Power.

The image is comical and sad. It is an easy joke waiting to be ceased by white humorists itching to draw attention between the contrast of what Black folks claim they want and how they act like. No longer the intellectual and aggressive threat to white people, or the system governing our lifestyle, books and analytical thought are replaced by intense concentration upon cell phones and the trivia pursuits of its worshippers. Black people come across as social buffoons, as black face comedians, throwbacks to Amos and Andy renditions of self and caricatures of who they really are! It is sad, laughable and how white folks maintain their sense of superiority over Colored folk because the resistance to them and 'it' is of no real force, or threat. It is just cute. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 1/12/17

His words are mirrors. They reflect back to us how Blacks are perceived by whites more often than not. He is telling a story we want to dismiss, don't wanna hear, evaluate honestly or deal with objectively, if that is possible. . .

Betwix and Between

There is a cartoon I saw of a Black man saying his prayers over Thanksgiving dinner. The next day he is rushing through a store shopping with anger on Black Friday yelling at others, "Get outa my way!"

Hypocrisy? No. It is something else. Americans come across as a kind of caricature of some type of creature that can be pulled anyway at anytime and any shape can be made out of them. It is strange.

Black Friday?

Americans don't seem to have the maturity, or wealth of knowing to be embarrassed about their clownish behavior. Who marketed this idea was a genius. They studied the vapidness of the collective thought life, and realized there is a continual supply of reactionaries who will always be pulled in directions with little thought outside themselves. It is weird. But, Americans live in a strange type of shell unmindful of the ripple affects of action, and detached from the social and spiritual components that keep community and nation's current in the flow of need and supply.

Then the profound truth beneath this is the average citizen does not know the dark bloody history of what is now known as Thanksgiving Day. Roots of what ails the soul of this nation is in the origin story of this holiday and this nation's spiritual tides are not from the sacredness of the moon but the key elements of this story between the Pilgrims and the Pequot, the Wampanoag and the Narragansett nations, to name three.

Start from there to understand why the black days for First Nations peoples and those from Africa are red with blood and white people's wealth is from those horrors that shaped their gratitude from killing thousands of people to the appearance of benevolence.

flag Red Black & Green

He, and we would be even more proud if there was substance behind the Red, Black & Green within the soul of Black Americans, and less showing up on the other side of the spectrum of economic development, and deep African spirituality, not opposed to being aligned with one's ancestors. The truth is we show up as regular consumers.

A flag. That Black liberation flag was meant for more substance than occasional appearances. Timidly, that symbol comes up, but really it has no power and is not acknowledged by any government. When such acknowledgement comes then that flag will make us proud. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories

People have asked me over the years why and how I work with young Black youth who are in the gang and street life? It is an easy answer because boys will rarely attack the spirit of a father they long for, or never had. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 11.27.16

Trump & the Negro People.

Black Studies & Critical Thinking

It's so disappointing to see black people boasting about voting third party or not voting at all yesterday. Do they not understand that Trump won by small margins in critical states and their wasted third party votes/no shows could've possibly stopped him? You allowed white supremacy to win! Why don't they understand this? It's like talking to a brick wall.

I saw black people reposting all of the conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton not based in facts. Hillary Clinton worked as a civil rights lawyer. She fought for racial equality in schools before becoming a politician. I saw all of us rallying against the wrong person. And for what?

How did we allow ourselves to be so easily fooled? Why are we our own worst enemy?

CJ Peterman, the simple answer to the complexity of your original thought and questions is somewhere in the midst of the definition of, and the distinction between freedom and being free. - Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories (Nov. 9, 2016)

"There are reasons not to vote, but no good reason is not enough reason not to vote in this country. We are smug in our luxury, and convenience, mostly unmindful of a world without that 'option'. Unknowingly, this has led many toward an aloofness now fashionable as chic, when in fact it is arrogant a presumption to have as a political stance.

These are my words." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories

Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish onstage clowning.

Tiffany Sarac Haddish is an American dancer, comedian and actress. Haddish is the oldest of five children. She is of Ethiopian Jewish, Eritrean and African American descent. She cared for her younger siblings while her mother worked overnight at the post office. In 1988 her mother was in a car accident and went through the windshield of her car; this caused or triggered her schizophrenia. When Haddish was 13 her family was split up and the children put into foster care before her grandmother was awarded custody. Still damaged, Haddish constantly was in trouble at school. Finally her social worker gave her an ultimatum: go to psychiatric therapy or Laugh Factory Comedy Camp. The camp was the outlet for her pain and her passion for comedy was sparked.

OPENING ACT

Sarah Silverman celebrates the Golden Globes - Jan. 2014 her style !!!!

When I heard Sarah Silverman's humor I needed to pay attention. She is sharp and intelligent. I could hear in her voice a white American woman. When I did see her on television spots here and there nothing jumped out that distinguished her. In short, she became part of a cultural landscape that did not include me and my kind. Apparently, there is and has been a dismissive notion that women are not funny. I didn't know this until last year watching a provocative documentary about women comediennes talking about their craft. Their words were stories awakened by a sense of being tagged by a dominate group. I know that group. In some way male privilege affords me partial entry into a club held by white men. So, I have to take some of the backlash from women in their lots in life they don't belong to. It is a touchy subject, but one needing to be touched.

Earlier this year I saw Sarah Silverman's stand up comedy on cable. It was her own show. It started out with her bouncing a ball against a wall in the evening hours wearing an outfit that captured my breath and my attention. Her back to the street a souped up classic car with three macho Hispanic thugs pulled up and called to her because she looked so good in her black thigh high leggings from behind. I was curious too. When she turned around their was a collective gasp of air quickly exhaled because she was tough, obviously unafraid, and sharp of tongue. An immediate turn on. The trio took the bait and conversation ensued. It was short. She was memorable if you like the look of white women wearing black clothes drawing attention to either the whiteness, or the dark cloth. Either way a confident good-looking white woman pulls it off when she is sharp herself as steel.

This is how I got into her humor. I've seen this show three, no four times. It gave me insights into the way crude white boy humor comes out of an intelligent good-looking white woman. Sarah Silverman deliberately bent perceptions squeezing humor out of what could easily be bizarre. It is something white men (famous or not) who are funny can do so well. I am making these assessments from a place of a Black man and an Indian man (African and Muskogee) view. White humor keeps 'us' on guard because it is physical and leers into the dark vestiges of violence at times with a thin membrane keeping one from the other. It isn't true for all white comics professionally, or not, but it is a fact we've learned to guard against with keen vigilance.

In the audience of a beautiful white comedienne a Black man has to be careful of his senses because her appeal will justify letting his guard down, and escort his good sense out the door, in a comedy venue dominated by white Americans. The tendency to laugh in their presence in the hope they will like you better is a demeaning force of energies with one purpose: to tear integrity down. These are subtle things, but important in the context of navigation in America's social structure. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 8.28.14

STYLE IN FASHION

Read the blog about Lucille Ball. It is slanted strictly for fashion. It is a good tribute to her talent and her legacy as an actress, business woman, producer, comedienne, and most important as a woman who was fixated on being herself in a time that limited a woman's self expression. - Gregory E. God, Anne Bancroft was breathtaking! She sent fear up my spine in the movie, The Graduate. Without having seen the movie I wouldn't have had a template in mind when a similar seduction took place in my young life. I succeeded somehow to get away! To this day I marvel that I got away. But, I don't think I'd have gotten away had the actress herself been in the role that played in my life. Within Anne Bancroft age didn't smolder the fire of her bosom, make shallow, or weak the depth of what lurked in her eyes, or lessen desirability of her.

How women age tells stories worthy of study. How beauty and sexual fires shift and enhance themselves with age is a formula not for the silly, the vain, or those afraid to age and learn, become and evolve, or learn  how to attract the heavy parts of attraction from the tomes of sacred histories to the cornerstones of maturity. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 11.18.13
