Black Ourstory Month

Kefa Ab Menaunghk Maat suggested or invited me and others to celebrate, not Black History Month, but Black Ourstory Month. In her words the invitation read: "Ma'at Hotep, this event is for the Truth in Black History Month. The so-called Black History Month only recognizes the events that led up to, during and after Slavery/Imprisonment of our Black People. We were not born of Slaves or Prisoners, we were born of Royalty and Highly Spiritual Beings, Gods/Goddesses and Strong and Intuitive Warriors. This month celebrate Black Ourstory Month as we mark the symbols of our Ancestors of the Ancients. As I wear the Eye of Ra or the Eye of Heru on my right eye, stand with me and others in wearing this EYE or even the Ahnk visual on your face to let the world KNOW or the U.S. who we are, we are knowledgeable of our Ancestors and at the same time revealing that change is here...

A Symbol of the Eye, the Ahnk or any other Kemetic or Ancient Egyptian Symbol...I hope to see a change and the true meaning of the Black Ourstory Month. After this time, some may continue to wear it everyday to represent who they truly are. This is a process, the beginning of change...hotep" ~ Ntrt Kefa

For me her words, "we are knowledgeable of our Ancestors" is the fundamental distinction from Black History month. It engages one's spiritual intellect, acknowledges the need for an African sensibililty, re-evaluation, and spirituality distinguished by deep study, prayer, and introspection. The responsibility of this is a natural progression from the mundane approach Black Americans hold Black History month, and self-identity. - Gregory E. Woods, (Adetokunbo) Keeper of Stories
