The Women in the World Summit was launched by Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of the
Daily Beast, in 2010 and is sponsored by the The Daily Beast and Newsweek. "Pushing up against the glass ceiling is a luxury." Brown said in her opening speech on Thursday (April 4). "Try being a woman in Congo or Pakistan or Somalia... Our mission is not just to 'lean in' but to lean on corporations, prosecutors, pimps... brothers who murder their sisters, clerics who turn a blind eye, entire governments..." and all who try to shut down women's empowerment around the world.
