She's one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses, and for good reason! Everyone loves Sandra Bullock! From her more serious, award-winning roles in films like "
The Blind Side" to her lighter, hilarious turns in classics like "
Miss Congeniality," Sandra has been charming audiences since she got her big break in 1994's "
Speed." With her newest flick "
Minions" hitting theaters on July 10, 2015, we're taking a look back at Sandra's life in pictures.
Sandra Bullock was born on July 26, 1964, in Arlington, Va., but spent much of her childhood traveling through Europe with her mother, a German opera singer. Sandra caught the entertainment bug after making her first appearance on stage with a tiny role in an opera in Germany when she was 5. While she told People magazine that junior high was "hell," since she'd just returned to America right before enrolling and didn't fit in, Sandra ended up flourishing in high school. Heavily involved in both theater productions and on the cheerleading squad, Sandra graduated and went on to study acting at East Carolina University.

Sandra Bullock dropped out of college in 1986 and moved to New York City to try her hand at acting. After landing her first gig in an off-Broadway play, Sandra found an agent. Her first jobs, however, weren't very glamorous: They ranged from B-movies to short-lived sitcoms, including 1990's "Working Girl."
Sandra Bullock thought her first major break came in 1993 when she was cast to replace Lori Petty in the Sylvester Stallone film "
Demolition Man" -- but the film received terrible reviews. Despite the lack of quality material, Entertainment Weekly pointed out that Sandra made "something out of a nothing role." The next year,

A Time to Kill" costar Matthew McConaughey. Things got serious and Sandra reportedly moved to Austin to be closer to Matthew. "You never know when you'll fall in love; you don't expect it. And I fell in love with Austin," Bullock explained to In Style magazine. The two broke up in late 1997, but remained good friends. In 1998,
Sandra Bullock developed her own production company, Fortis Films. Her younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, helped run the business, which went on to produce films with Warner Bros. that brought in $700 million at the box office, according to Forbes magazine.

Sandra Bullock tried her hand at executive producing in 2002. After meeting stand-up comedian George Lopez, she agreed to serve as EP on his ABC sitcom "
George Lopez." The successful television show ran for six seasons. The same year she made the transition to executive producing television,
Sandra Bullock also starred in the psychological thriller "
Murder by Numbers" alongside a young Ryan Gosling. The two hit it off, and despite their 16-year age difference, went on to date for a year.
In 2004,
Sandra Bullock starred in the drama "
Crash." Some critics considered it the best performance of her career, and it was the first of many roles that would take Sandra to the Oscars. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Sandra Bullock fell for tattooed motorcycle man
Jesse James in 2003. The two met when Sandra had arranged for her 10-year-old godson to meet the "
Monster Garage" star. Sandra and Jesse married two years later in July 2005.

Making her return to the big screen after a brief break from the spotlight,
Sandra Bullock starred in 2013's "
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" alongside Tom Hanks. The film ended up garnering an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Sandra Bullock had a big year in 2013 too. The actress released two films: the box office smash "
