Japanese woman conservatively dresses for reasons I am not privy to because the gap between cultures hold many secrets Japanese women, and Native men cannot traverse easily. Understanding, at best, comes after trouble thinking clearly.

Mirrors: a study of one's soul 4

Greta Tatum, had an adverse reaction seeing this young woman posed on a bed wearing a t-shirt tied in the front. The short sleeves were cut off to partially reveal an ample breast. A short black skirt said hello to pretty legs postured with the good manners to conceal and suggest more than reveal what hid in modesty. Ms. Tatum said, "You have no modesty. Photos like this should not be posted on Facebook. I am not happy with seeing such discus ting sights on my page. We do not need to see this."
By her picture Ms. Tatum appears to be of African descent. She has retired. She was a government worker now living in the Cayman Islands, so she is much older than the woman seated on a bed. Other than that I know nothing about her so delicately I treaded responding to her comments.
So, for me it was a month of on again, off again thoughts about what Ms. Tatum saw in this picture. Was she in herself critical, or seeing some of the trace back to her experiences? Whatever it was I can't be an authority on. What I can do is look at what I saw a month ago the first time I saw this photograph and a month later. What I saw and sensed was the same in both time periods.
So, for me it was a month of on again, off again thoughts about what Ms. Tatum saw in this picture. Was she in herself critical, or seeing some of the trace back to her experiences? Whatever it was I can't be an authority on. What I can do is look at what I saw a month ago the first time I saw this photograph and a month later. What I saw and sensed was the same in both time periods.
"There is a delicate beauty the young woman has within." I wrote. "It is in the eyes, her countenance. It may be pretense, but innocence and being delicate are often hidden. Less pretense as an acting skill grants a real quality to any form of art. In a woman it is worth study and prayer if one understands the needs of each stage of growth a woman needs support in."
I thought about this immediately when first I saw this picture. Perhaps, I am growing, or have grown to a place where growth can be where lust dwells. It is part of the maturing process men let themselves go through. I said, 'let themselves go through' on purpose because maturity is not a right. It is a process one wants to be a part of, and men who do experience changes that may or may not be appreciated by women if women only see men in awe of a woman they often miss out in being a prayerful participant of a man's growth process. But, on the other hand criticism of us as we grow is beneficial. It is like sunlight. It is harsh, but the soil needs the sun beating down. The Earth, our Mother needs men as well as women to nurture and furnish insight and wisdom to succeeding generations."

Life always asks the question of Black White People

Harriet Tubman a long time ago said, "I had crossed the line. I was free but there was no one to welcome me to the land of freedom. I was a stranger in a strange land."
That is an emotion hard to capture across the expanse of time if bondage is a way of being in vogue, or feel if one has a life of privilege and is in bondage. No stranger to the feeling of this kind of isolation affords those who have obtained their freedom the deep unction Harriet Tubman carried within her that compelled her to go back and lead and sometimes pull people out of slavery into free land. Harriet Tubman is not the only one, in such a line of work, who bemoaned the state of mind that craved the return to bondage, and resented those who sought to be free. There are few free people and it is a strange land with all the resistance to freedom and truth telling.

Stories of Creation are creation stories. Their merit is based upon the amount and level of truth and depth of insight into creative processes poured into them. Who first told them, at one point in time, was important until a third generation came along and the telling and potency of the story was still alive and vibrant. An assembly of special people, or a person was the conduit for the revealing and understanding of the creation of the world. As the expanse of time grew from the first moments the practical understandings became the stories each group of people believed and understood as their own.
Creation stories within individuals are equally intriguing. What do you believe, and how were you created? What is your creation story? These questions are fundamental to the journeys we take and the decisions we make daily. I know traditions have taught the magic out of creativity and enforced the idea that Creation is fixed in a time long ago, and gone, but the process of life-death-resurrection contains evolution and magic and introspection from one life to another and one lifetime to another. This process challenges the notion of permanence and says creation like blood flow continues until the idea of existence loses its vibrancy.

Model Activism

Amy Lemons is an internationally known and respected commodity. She is a model. She is also an advocate for change within her industry. A member of Model Alliance, an organization striking out at the fashion industry's leaning towards the zero-size-standard. Ms. Lemons is an advocate for healthier lifestyles, and the elevation of young women's self-esteem.
I know Naomi Campbell, another international model, is in the fight to protect the gains made for Black and African models who are used less in a racially exclusive format. The business of fashion and modeling has a terrible history with its preference for white models. There was a brief break in the trend that started in the late 1950's when the wife of EBONY and JET magazine's founder entered the game boldly. The major players would not allow Black American women to model their clothes. It would lower the value of their clothes, or so they believed. In response to that industry condition Mrs. Johnson purchased the expensive clothes herself, and catapulted the value of the Black woman's presence onto the international runways escalating the profits of an industry that pretended a huge potential market did not matter, or exist.
It is a common theme. In the real estate business a linked ideology was used to scare white homeowners away from their neighborhoods. The real estate industry knew full well the property values of homes sold to Black Americans escalate for reasons many refuse to believe. Historically, Blacks intentionally raise the value of their homes through their care of their homes. Also, unethical lending practices, and the propensity of whites involved in the dirty business of removing money from Black communities unfairly brought a lot of money into the industry by manipulating emotions and images!
As I have pondered the fashion industry over the years I wonder if the fear to confront the Gay movement's 'sales people' will continue to stall the progress to lead the industry away from its insistence upon unhealthy models to shape the images of women themselves to weak to muster up the creative juices to develop esteem separate from their unquestioned influences. Or, perhaps the culprit lies within the Puritanical influence upon women's esteem. Believing women to be the 'weaker vessel' has effectively affected self-esteem for a little over 20 centuries! Together these two have created a lot of fear, and misconceptions.
Knowing this advocates will have to dig in deeper than the tradition activism submits to. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 6.13.13
