Martyrdom for love?

naked art of angst - Snow Whizzle by Jorge Teixeira

Bob Marley when he said, "If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you won't give up. If you give up, you're not worthy... Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." has obvious merits, and a flaw.

Suffering. If suffering is part of the criteria for relationships, marriage does this give place to being a martyr? How does being a martyr square with loving someone? Then again in the Apostle Paul's first letter to the Corinthian church he did say, "... Love suffers long and is kind..."

Maybe, I did not answer my question.
