Qatar, a piece about

Qatar woman, Hanadi Hassan in December of 2013.

Located on a short, northeastern arm of the Arabian Peninsula, Qatar may be geographically small, but it wields a great deal of power and influence among Persian Gulf states. The country has one of the world’s highest per capita income rates, and this immense economic success is spurred on by the country’s natural gas and oil reserves, the third largest on earth. The monarchy pours money into immense building projects, but also invests heavily in cultural and artistic ventures. Qatar is citied as the world’s leading art buyer, with the ruling Al Thani family said to have spent roughly $1 billion on Western art alone in the past decade. - anon
