Minnie Riperton : The Edge Of A Dream

Minnie Riperton brought clarity to the concept, the fact, the actions of being immersed in love, as if she was opposed to falling in love because falling in love spoke of a weakness of will within the soul. The strength of her love for her husband, and the love between them and their musical collaborations cut through racial lines, cultural ties to old ideas about love, and lovng each other magically, without effort. Their love was alive rising with sound into the higher realms of being Human. Being alive while she was creating, and singing added a magic to the tense, and loose air typical of the 1970's.

While millions of us struggled with being Black, Negro, and African Minnie Riperton married across the color lines, and began to unravel, for me, the concepts of separation through her music, and allowed long glimpses into her soul. This gift of hers opened in the lyrics, the melodies, the arrangements a freedom the times required to live into the next right movement after the right to vote (citizenship) was granted to Black Americans.
