EXPLAIN THAT!

It is always a good feeling knowing one has options. It is a pity many people feel evolving and being 'modern' is equated with not having to chose, and seem to enjoy settling for having few options. From my perspective I've watched with growing sadness a few decades go by as people opt for limited control of their lives preferring a type of dictatorship governing their lives. A recent example was watching lobbyists in Congress fighting for the right to force all American households to have cable TV. In the end they won and by law the analog signal was given to Homeland Security, and some public television stations, and we were forced out of the choice of what kind of TV we can have in our homes.

Now, by law people are forced to comply with laws governing luxury and entertainment. Example? It is against the law to remove tracking devices from your automobile. Since the early 1960's automakers have been trying to make it mandatory that cars have lights constantly burning on their vehicles for reasons I don't understand. They lobbied in Congress for decades until it became a standard and law. Why was that important? There are other odd things about American's sense of freedom that increasingly calls into question what Americans mean by freedom and fighting for freedom! - Gregory E.
