"Shook Up Brazil"

"Big Black is from South Carolina, and that part of the area is as pure as Africa anywhere in the United States. Chief Bey is from South Carolina. When they coach their drummers they coach with an African drum. They teach them all the music all the blues and Caribbean. Black was so powerful, he and I toured Brazil together in 1981, just piano and drums. I'd never done that before, Big Black shook up Brazil. They had never heard anyone play drums like that before."
