Just to Look!

"Each woman comes center stage into the limelight as herself. 'As herself' can extend between who she dreamt, and created as who she is, and who she actually is. Either way it is all creation, and creativity bringing women into the arts requires authenticity, and commitment to their art. Fame is a by-product of attempts made to be in upper echelons of one's field, and what it takes to be the best at what you do as art, and for the love of doing it better and better each time you get a chance. Fame ask one thing: be prepared." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories Jan. 25, 2017

Octavia Spencer attended the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards show. She is too fine! No, she is a bit beyond fine! What an impeccable spirit she has as a woman and an actress. It is unbelievable how utterly beautiful and physically flawless she is! I look at her and hear her talk and she is speaking from within substance, and I wonder within and aloud, "My Goodness, where'd she come from!!"

Well, that is how I react seeing her on television, or the big screen; even in the small Aunt Jemima roles she has played I remember being struck by her core. It is the core coming outwards that matches her profound beauty! That's what it is! - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories [Jan. 25, 2017]

"So much is conveyed in the simplicity of black dresses and gowns. Little touches of opulence and suggestions of sophistication transform women into how they see themselves. It is magic in apparel that tells stories, weaves figures into the dreams and fantasies that compel poets and voyeurs, artists and the uninspired to come alive for the occasion of her entrance! It is magic what women can do to the senses!" - Gregory E. Woods 2.27.14

an Opinion about Black Women

big Black model for Vogue Italia belle verve !!!!

Black Women Are Fat because they want to be? That is whispered in circles that dare not show their faces, or locations. Black women seduce people around the world with an intangible. When they are deep into the waters of who they are so much comes to the surface in them and others. - Gregory E. Woods 8.31.14

The New Elegant Black Woman Today

fragile beauty of an African American lady

I think that it's rare in the media to see images of Black women looking shy, vulnerable, meek, delicate, and fragile and that may be why I like these images so much! Instead we are shown strong, independent, angry, loud, aggressive women who can do everything on their own and are hard as nails. I think that many Black women are delicate but put on a hard shell (e.g., have a mean expression on their faces) because they fear (sometimes rightly so) that someone will see this vulnerability and hurt them. I think that those of us who are not in danger can feel free to show their feminine vulnerability because this is what also makes others want to care for and protect us.

No matter what your opinion is on the subject, I'm sure you will agree that the women in these images are beautiful and very feminine! Do you think that it is rare to see Black women in the media and in your life looking this way? How do you think others would react to these women? Do you feel uncomfortable seeing Black women depicted this way? Are you more accustomed to seeing non-Black women like this? I have an appreciation for the way these women are depicted because I think they look like delicate flowers :) I wish more Black women would pose like this instead of making faces, sneering, making that annoying pouting face, growling, looking bored, oversexed, or looking like they are angry because those poses make them look awful! What ever happened to trying to look "nice" in photographs? Anyways, the main things that stand out for me will be highlighted. This is the first of a series of posts examining positive images of Black women that I described in my post: What I Look For in Positive Images of Black Women.

HELP HOPE

Jessica Chastain & Octavia Spencer played roles in the movie, THE HELP. The movie was set during the time period of the Civil Rights movement in the thick of it when whites were feeling the heat of change on the horizon. It burned then just as it burns now on the necks and brows of conservative white structures in the wake of the country voting President Obama back into office to continue the momentum of the changes in the culture, and the world's cry and muted plea for relief from the oppression of the ideologies and power of our brand of citizenship,  worldview and dominance, and impact! It is a strange and daring time we live in, but we are required to be present, attentive, and contributory forces in the mix engrossed in the dynamics of self-purification, restoration of sacred spaces, the Earth, our Mother, and the development of sustainable lifeways for people around us, first, and broader, in the world-at-large.

bus boycott speaks to the times and the prospects of sacrifice for one's generations.
If a measurement of progress over time is evident in 2013 what is that standard?
How much African retention resides within the African-American of today, and how much more is devalued in today's world, and amongst African-Americans today?

My father says, "The healing of what ails white people is in the soul of the people they enslaved."
Where is the Healer in the enslaved?
