Washington DC has joined the ranks of other states and municipalities imposing bans on smoking in public. Outside of the practical, and at the time, respectful agenda of keeping restaurants, and buildings smoke free I have no respect for the way the movement carried their momentum after those initial victories. After those accomplishments they've become mean spirited, and myopic. As if pollution, and public health centers solely around tobacco and cigarette smoking the public follows this logic pathetically. How far does myopic, simple-minded approaches to complex problems get to travel?

These 'victories' are narrow. They plainly say that other measures to fight against the systems in place to continue polluting air, water, and land are subordinate to the dangers of tobacco.
