TALE from Two Peoples

PART 31

"In the Black American experience expression from pain was often seen as joy, or a salve for pain, or treated royally as an expression of the human capacity to endure. Our blues was marketable. It gave identity to white Americans, and ended the onslaught of ridicule from Europe by the end of the 19th century.

It felt like for many a long time ago whites could never see our dances, or hear our songs as anymore than quaint expressions of primitive people they needed to nurture and care for. In retrospect it must be a puzzle of a reaction for today's young people, black and white, to look at given the poor educations they are given..." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 3.18.13
