ELDERS Guide

Dancer, Emelie Jeffries by Teko Alejo, at Georgetown University in Washington DC 2018

"The beauty of older women in prayer, in ceremony move to an inner sound the drums don't beat, but play. It is an inner sanctum our Mothers pray from, dance to and flow with..." - Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories 4/24/18

Dancer, Michael Nephew by Teko Alejo, at Georgetown University, Washington DC 2018.

"The power of older men on the Red Road with a long trail behind them speak without speaking into a microphone. Silence and humor cling to them. There is a fragrance, an essence; a sense of manhood observation cannot fathom at first glance. It is the responsibility of youth to study the road of their Elders and to be grateful they have Elders to study, and learn to develop the courage to ask for their insights!..." - Gregory E. Words, Light and Fire of Intent.

Walking In Beauty (Blessing)

Today I will walk out, today everything unnecessary will leave me, ...
I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body.
I will have a light body, I will be happy forever,
nothing will hinder me.
I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me.
I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me.
I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful.

In beauty all day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons, may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.

With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.

In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful.

A Prayer: atonement

a prayer by Dennis Binns‎

Great Spirit, Almighty Healer and Creator of all things, we united together with humbled hearts to offer up many thanks. We thank you for the rising of Grandfather Sun as he lights up our path. We thank you for Grandmother Moon as she watches over us during our slumber. We thank you for Father Sky that protects us each day and night. We thank you for Mother Earth that supplies us with all that we ...need to survive. We thank you for the gift of life that you have breathed in to every living thing. We thank you for life in nature, from the moisture in the soil that flows through the roots, up through the stem and to the veins of each leaf and petal. We thank you for the knowledge that water is the life blood of nature. We thank you for the many blessings and gifts you have given us. We thank you for the mystery that surrounds us in the very expanse of the Universe.

We have allowed materialistic greed, lust of power, and money to control us. We ask for your forgiveness and guidance toward returning to a time where we were better caretakers of your creation. We have polluted and marred the lands, waters and sky and have brought destruction to the rainforests. We ask for a return to an era of peace where all people are truly equal and we are able to use the gifts provided to bring back balance to a world that is destroying itself. We ask for a time where all indigenous people begin to rise up and peacefully teach others the way of the Spirit. We ask for protection for our animal brothers and sisters that are facing grave danger from men that have lost all understanding and love of life. We ask for protection for the women and children that continue to suffer through violence and abuse. We ask for strength, guidance and courage as we stand against those that would continue to destroy the lands, waters and skies above. We ask for honor and integrity to enter into the halls of our governments, so they may finally serve the will of the people rather than themselves. We ask for an end to the division that continues to keep your people from uniting and fulfilling prophecies shown to them. We ask for the release of all of your children that have been incarcerated for crimes they did not commit. We ask for a time for boys to become men with responsibility, and become real fathers to the children they have sired. We ask for strength, guidance and peace for all single mothers struggling to make it in this world. We ask for hardened hearts to soften and compassion be used to help the poor, homeless, widows and all that are in need.

We thank you for our many trials as they bring strength to our spirits. We thank you for our Elders as they bring us the instruction and wisdom needed to follow our path. We thank you for our children that will build upon the foundation we have set before them. We thank you for our relations that interact with us each day to give us insight in areas of misunderstanding. We thank you for our family and friends that give us the support we need along our journey. We thank you for the answering of our prayers. Emenv

Inner Exchange.

ArazelArt in reflection in Berkeley. 2016

Reflection, introspection sits in the West facing East, where illumination rises with the sun of a new day. We meet in the center space of our being with another whose life force engages ours, and afterwards go to reflect about what we feel, and feel what was stimulated into thought processes essential to growing and being better than before we met. This is a way of being on the Right Path!

Jesus is the Way?

Indigenous People Of America,

All of US native American Indians can become a successful human being! I am from the tribes of the Shoshone / Paiute of Southern California. We are very intelligent and inventive, we have so much natural talent and our minds are an amazing tool If we choose ! so why WHY do so many of our people of the native nationalities allow themselves to be given over to alcohol and drugs and self pity then they die a lonely heart wrenching death! I gotta say that hurts me so bad it's hard to understand that someone's son or daughter is lying in gutter dying and no one seems to care!

American Indians MATTER! I am soo thankful that before I was born a fearless Preacher found his way to the Tehachapi mountains and told my grandfather about the precious love of Jesus for the Indians and my grandpa was saved by God's amazing grace and not only him and my grandma but a lot of my aunts and uncles were saved! Through the generations the children of those Indians have chosen the love of Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as my Lord and King !! I will tell you it's the best decision I have made! Christ is the ONLY answer for the Indian Nation. I will be praying for Bro and sisters of the American Indian Nation. Love you so much! Jeannie.

Lyle Budlong

I am of the Absaroka, the Muskogee, and the West African peoples. I have lived this life the whole of my life as an Indian, an African and walked the Red Road first from birth and later the Jesus Road for many years learning deep things applicable to both, and later for the betterment of my Medicines.

The question I want to ask this brother comes from our tradition of not trying to disrespect a person's walk. I want to understand how Jesus is the only answer for the Indian nations? We had our own Red Road, our own walk with the Creator. Were not the teachings of Jesus and the tool of the missionaries Jesus to undermine our way of life taking our lands, customs and teachings away from us? How a taker becomes a savior is beyond me, far outside reasonable!

These are my words. I am Alowan Chanteh Inyan Wichasha

Her Red Road Walk

When I walk, I remember the moments that add up to my life.
When I walk, I see everything, but I focus on the beauty that still wasn't destroyed by human hand and I thank you.

When I walk, I'm smiling because there's so much that fills my heart with gratitude and beauty. The clouds of sadness they tend to disappear.

When I walk, I'm aware of how important that we believe and know how insignificant we are with our struggles. The Earth will still be around and purificandose in itself, that's why I let her equally or more clean than it is to my step, consumption, less consumption more natural, but.... no one take my chocolate
;-)

Little Bear (Mischa), 2016.

To Be Separated

art by Victoria Hogan, a mixed-blood as she describes herself. (2016)

Indian Mixed Blood Medicine Circle

There are so many of us mixed blood out there in the world who feel cut off from their heritage but feel the red spirit within their hearts. That is the purpose we have come together here to learn and share with each other in this medicine circle.

So many of the ways have been lost and so many times we find that when we turn to some of the full bloods or full blood groups they are more concerned about percentage of blood that flows through a person's veins then they are keeping the old teachings alive for future generations.

In the teachings I received many many years ago as a young woman the first teaching I learned was that of the medicine wheel and it's meanings. There are 4 colors to the medicine wheel....red, white, black, yellow. If one stops and thinks about it there are also 4 colors of mankind..red, black, white, and yellow

Through Wallace Black Elk's teaching (he was old Black Elk's son).whom I met in the summer of my 17th year I was taught that when all four colors join together in peace that would be the time there could be a lasting and true peace. I have followed that all my life.

I had a dream one night almost a year ago that woke me up in the middle of the night feeling angry. I dreamed of sitting at a fire with native peoples of different tribes who had gathered to share teachings of their respective people. They were angry and had asked those of mixed blood to step away from the fire so they could begin.

I realized that many groups here on Facebook are the same way. They are more interested in blood quantums than they are about anything else and so many are turned away from the good red road that Creator would have his children walk.

I had to question within myself these actions and beliefs for do we not start and end many ceremonies with the words Mitakuye Oyasin (We are all relatives)? Then how can any be shut out, turned away or shunned. Do they not hear the teachings of our elders as they hold so tightly to what some believe is for them and them alone?

Black Elk taught that if a person has one drop of native blood he or she is native. He also taught that it is what lives within the heart of each person is much more important then the color of their skin for is not each of our hearts red?

Did not Black Elk teach that if a person has one drop of native blood he or she is native. He also taught that it is what lives within the heart of each person is much more important then the color of their skin for is not each of our hearts red?

I got up out of bed, went to my laptop and put this group together. It eased my anger enough that I was able to go back to bed and fall asleep. Now look at us. We have turned into a small nation, a tribe unto ourselves where we can hold our heads high and be proud of who we are!

We are over 15,000 in number. Can you picture a village that large in the old days? That would mean a pony herd of at least 45,000 plus. Can you smell the 15,000 cooking fires? An overwhelming thought to say the least. Of course that would have been impossible as we know for finding enough game to fill those cooking pots and finding grazing for that many ponies....lol. But as in the old days we are scattered across the land, even the continents, each with our own dialects and traditions.

This fills my spirit with a feeling I have no words for. Do each of you realize what we have accomplished here? We in a way are living the vision that Black Elk had, bring it to life so to speak.
We are here together, red, white, yellow and black sharing the teachings peacefully as ONE TRIBE...ONE NATION....IN UNITY !!! I am overwhelmed at seeing this happen.
Blessings to each of you in our tiyospia (extended family).

May Creator look upon us in a good way as we journey together down this red road, down this path to our ancestor's teachings and the ways we have felt dormant in our hearts as a big piece missing from our souls.
Welcome home!

on Red Road

This passed Saturday morning some kind people knocked on my door and offered to save my soul. I don't understand why people still want to convert me and convince me about a reality that does not suit my spirit. I tried it Believe Me. I was kicked out of church when I asked in Sunday-school if Jesus had a girlfriend? So I went back to my people and decided to walk the red road just like my grandfather did.

AGAINST TRADITIONAL THOUGHT

couple daring each other.

Procrastination is a learned ability. Our DNA is a form of prophecy we can alter by the words of our mouth and the meditations of our hearts and the actions of our bodies. Love is action and fear is a motion, an illusion that challenges the warrior into a dance with the illusion to create a reality. These are the ways of the warrior I learned from the people I observed walking the Jesus Road, and the Red Road.

Black Indians And Intertribal Native American Association

My Black Don't Crack

Walking the Red Road

In 1986 when I started Binay AKA Black Indians And Intertribal Native American Association. I have to admit I knew we would get flack. Also, we would stir up the world. I knew that it was something burnt in my heart because Creator had put it in my heart. Now nearly 30 years later I still find it that people have a problem with the word black in front of Indian. So maybe I can shed a little bit of why I feel this is a good thing.

Everyone knows about Natives, Whites, Blacks, Chinese  and so forth. But most do not know about Blacks and Natives. Now the reason why you see the Black Ancestry come through so much in a mixed blood Native with Afro inside of them is because those who came over here of African pure blood was the strongest Africa had in Genetic pool. Just think of the rigoress atrocities they went through to get chosen, then weened out and then cast inside a boat like sardines and those who where weak died off and those who where of the strongest breed and strongest health and strongest spirit and strongest of everything inside of them to live on were the ones that made it here....................

With that said, being of such strong genetics if you mixed with anyone of a different race you would see the stronger gene show up in the children. And thought that is thinning out quite a bit as we all mix that is the way it was in early America.

The Colonials gave the 5 so called Civilized tribes thousands of pure African Slaves to assimilate them. Those who married had children and thus here you and I are: Black or African Indian. I love the word Black its full of Power and Might its the best of Africa!! Its awesome Word and though we are not from Indian we are associated with the Native word. So we are BlackIndians!! And those who don't like it must contend with the truth and facts that we exist and we are a Proud people. Moving forward with Power spirit and heart to keep our ancestry alive.

I had a Hidatsa Mandan woman enroll her children onto our tribal rolls of our association and when I asked her why she said I love my children and they are Black Indians. I also had a Hawaiian woman enroll her daughters into our tribe because of the same reason. We are a people who do not need BIA to tell us who we are. We are who we are not by choice but by Creation by our Creator. And so we must accept ourselves and we a people who can shine a light into darkness and make aware that which is not known. That our people exists and alive and well today.

Yes, 30 years ago I created our own Tribal rolls long before Katz wrote Black Indians a Hidden Heritage and long before those books came out because I saw the problems of racism at Pow wows and festivals and events where Black Natives where shunned. I didn't like what I saw and made sure that just because I had long hair and red-brown skin I made sure that those at the drum with me treated those with African Blood were treated equally. That is why I formed BlackIndians.com. It was time to create our own way keeping our ancestry in tacked and making sure that we continued in our ancestors foot steps. I love the word Black Indian because its empowerment of two great people who forged themselves together to create a great people. I love the word blackindian because it speaks of a duality that sings to my spirit that says I know who I am, and I am proud. And I do not have to chose to be one or the other. But I can be who our Creator created me to be and that is the love and power of them both.

Can you say that about other races? Sure you can, if that's what you want to do but no one has our legacy and it takes Black + Indians to = BlackIndians. That is who we are.

WALKING THE RED ROAD

“We have been warned from Ancient Prophecies of these times we live in today, but have also been given a very important message about a solution to turn these terrible times around. In our Prophecies it is told that we are now at the crossroads. Either unite spiritually as a Global Nation, or be faced with chaos, disasters, diseases, and tears from our relatives' eyes. We are the only species that is destroying the Source of Life, Mother Earth, in the name of power, mineral resources, and ownership of land, using chemicals and methods of warfare that are doing irreversible damage. Mother Earth is becoming tired and cannot sustain any more impacts of war. This new millennium will usher in an age of harmony or it will bring the end of life, as we know it. To us, as caretakers of the heart of Mother Earth, falls the responsibility of turning back the powers of destruction.” - Chief Arvol Looking Horse

Elder's Wisdom

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 27

"When temptation comes, I don't say, `Yes," and I don't say, `No.' I say, `Later,' I just keep walking the Red Road - down the middle. When you're in the middle, you don't go to either extreme. You allow both sides to exist." -Dr. A. C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA

We need to practice controlling our focus. Whatever we focus on we become. We also become whatever we practice. We need to focus on balance. Whenever something comes along to tilt us off balance, we need to be grateful, because it allows the opportunity to practice our focus. Sometimes this is called temptation. Temptation in itself is not bad. What really counts is what we do with it when it happens. We need to practice controlling our focus and keeping our thinking focused on the Red Road.

Great Spirit, today, guide me through my temptations and allow me to focus on the Red Road.

the RED ROAD

Sept. 10, 2013

Walking The Red Road

Creator has a plan for each of us. We must strive to walk the Red Road, to fulfill our lives paths. We must learn to listen to what our heart's speak to us. We must pray and let the smoke take our prayers to Creator. Not just sometimes when we have a need, but daily. In the morning when the day is new and in the evening before we rest. We must thank Creator for our food and all he has given us. It is He who loves us and He who made us.

We must do our part to care for Mother Earth as she is sick and in need. She provides us with all we need to survive. The food we eat, the air we breathe. We must do all we can to make sure she can continue to provide, for the sake of the children.

We must love one another. Love means caring, compassion, and sacrifice. To do all we can do to help each other. Whatever the need is, food, clothing, a warm place to sleep, council, prayers or a hug, we do all we can for our brothers and sisters of this world. Real love is all the time, not just when we want to, or when we have time.

We must teach the children to walk the Red Road, to care for Mother Earth. We must teach them their heritage, their culture. The children are the future, and if we fail to teach them, their heritage is lost to them, and we as Native Americans will cease to exist as a people.

We must teach them to walk tall, to be proud of who and what they are. We must teach them to fight the injustices of all the Native Americans as a whole. To band together as one people, one tribe, and to put aside their differences, and focus on the rights of our people as one people. To stand together as one. To be one strong Nation. To agree to disagree for the good of our people as a whole. To fight for the protection of Mother Earth, and all creations on her.

We should never judge another person as we have not lived their lives, nor do we know what their hearts speak to them. When others do us wrong, we need to pray for them, not show anger, and vengeance. Show love and teach by example.

We must never disrespect the beliefs of another as we all have to listen to what our heart's speak to us. We have no right to change their beliefs and should respect them as we wouldn't want another to do this to us and our beliefs. Always respect others beliefs, ideas, and demand they respect yours. Always treat others as you want to be treated. Strive to be the best person you can be, and grow Spiritually everyday.

Always know the words you speak can have a profound effect on another person, and chose those words so as not to inflict hurt on another's heart, as words can never truly be taken back, you can apologize, and be forgiven, but the scars left by those words are forever in the heart of those we hurt. Always remember this before you speak and ask yourself if your words will inflict hurt before you say them.

Try not to waste time with worrying as it won't change things. Use your energy on more positive things. These are just my thoughts...

A NEW DAY ON THE RED ROAD

Nadya Kwandibens took this picture of a march from Victoria Island in Ottawa, ON just two days ago on the 21st day of December 2012! It seems Native peoples see the prophecies as transformations, and transformative periods for the People to renew, and not clash within themselves.  There were lodge ceremonies, deep quiet vigils, vision quests, prayer time, and most important stillness. No matter what ceremony, or march there was stillness within on the day marking the end of a 5,000 year cycle.  - Alowan Chanteh Inyan Wichasha

DEER PEOPLE on the Red Road

A Deer is an animal of love, tenderness, and swiftness. There is an old story about
the animal kingdom wanting to get into heaven to see the Almighty God.
At a council meeting all the animals stood up to tell why they would be the most appropriate one
to get to the kingdom of God. The Bear stood up and said,

" I, Bear , who is the strongest bravest creature will go to see the Creator".

Upon the road to the Creator stood a big , nasty, monster. The bear took one look and ran back to the animal kingdom to tell of the nasty, monster.

The Eagle Screeched, "I will fly over the monster to get to see the Creator". Off went the eagle.
He flew higher and higher and got closer to the kingdom of the Creator than any other animal before.
He started to screech a prayer. "Almighty Great Creator, I so would like to see You".
The Almighty Creator said, "It is true you are the best at reaching high enough to talk to me,
but a messenger is all you will be. Tell the rest of the animals that they have to go through the red road of truth to find me".
The eagle said to The Almighty Creator," But there is a monster in the way , how can we cross?
The Almighty said no further. The eagle went back and told all the animals of what the Almighty had said to him.
and all the animals started to fight and argue.

The Deer hearing such a roar jumped so high he landed right in front of the nasty monster.
The deer looked into the eyes of the monster and stared.
The monster looked deep into the deer's eyes and saw
love, warmth and tenderness, and upon seeing that the monster melted away.
And so the deer was the first to go through the red road of truth to see the Almighty.

RED HEARTS

Grandfather Bear-Tata Oso, an Apache- Mexika Medicine Man said the following words while leading a Sweat Lodge, Inipi, or Temascal Ceremony.“I am proud to call myself an Indio (Indian). I am an Indian. I am a Red Man, Yo soy Indio, Yo soy Hombre Rojo”.

These words were spoken in the Ceremony on the Aguaje de La Tuna Kumyaii Indian Reservation near Tecate B.C., Mexico, at the Spring EquinoxCeremon
y in March 2012.

There were about 30 people in the sweat lodge including men, women and children. The leader of the sweat lodge, Grandfather Bear-Tata Oso, said the following: “There are some that think the word Indio (Indian) is a bad word and that we should call ourselves Native Americans or other words. This is not true,

“A mi la palabra Indio quiere decir “En Dios.” “To me, the word Indio means “in God.”

There are some in here that are Indios (Indians) and have Red Hearts. There are some in here that are Indios (Indians) that have White Hearts. There are some White People in here that have Red Hearts. There are White people with White Hearts; however, none of them are with us. What do we mean by that? Creator created 4 colors or races of man. These are the 4 colors of maiz (corn) : red, white, yellow and black. The color of the skin makes no difference because we are all created equal by Creator.

The Lakota say “Mitakuye Oyasin” (all my relations). We are all one in the eyes of the Great Mystery, Creator, Wantan Tanka, and Ometeotl. We are all a small part of Creator. The color of the skin is meaningless. The color of the Heart is a different thing.

The Indio (Indian) with a Red Heart remembers that he or she belongs to the Earth and the Earth does not belong to them. The Indio remembers that he was placed and on Earth to care for the Earth, her water, air, the skin or surface including the rocks, the mountains and the mineral resources of Earth, the plants, the animals, the birds, the fish and the creepy crawly ones that are all part of Mother Earth and each other.

The Way of the Red Heart is the way of peace. It is a way of caring for and respecting all our Brothers and Sisters on Earth. The people with Red Hearts also respect all the elements of Mother Earth: air, water, fire and the earth herself.

The Way of the White Heart is the way of greed, the destruction of Earth for short-term gain and war. It is a way of materialism.

The White Heart says “I own that piece of property, that car, that home, whatever.” Those with White Hearts say that they own the air space, water, and land. They say “We can build large, high fences to keep the Indio and anyone we do not like out. We are superior to them.”

The Indio with a Red Heart says “Creator owns that piece of property. It is mine to care for.” There is a very marked lack of possessiveness among those with the Red Heart.

The White Heart teaches that one should distrust or even despise anyone with a different color of skin, different language, different culture or different religion (particularly non-Christian religions) and immigrants.

The Red Heart realizes that We Are All One and that we are all a small part of the Creator of the Universe. We are not separate.
The people of the Red heart live in a hoop, a circle. No one stands in front of them, no one stands behind them, and no one stands above or below them. All are one and equal.

“The time has come,” say the Elders of the Red Men, “to release the teachings of Red Road (La Via Roja) to all people. We need to teach all about the Red Heart of love, compassion, peace, trust, caring for all people”.

This is extremely important at this time since the rising of the Fifth Sun – The Return of Light is occurring now. The New Sun is gradually arising and shining on Earth at this time. This is the year The Return of Light. In order to enter the Fifth World or the Fifth Sun, we must cultivate the Red Heart. It is our choice. The time is now to decide.

The Via Roja the Red Road is the ONLY way to survive the troubles that we on Earth face at this time.

Many Indios or Red Men have forgotten who they are and why they are on Earth. They have developed White Hearts. Their hearts are filled with greed, jealousy, envy and materialism. Many Red Men are discovering who they really are and why they are on Earth at this time. They are becoming Beings of Light.

Many White, Black and Yellow people are also discovering the Red Way. They are learning that they have Red Hearts and are letting their lights shine.

This is not a Religion. This is a Spiritual Teaching. The Red Road has Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and members of many other religions as participants.

Many indigenous groups in all parts of the world follow the Red Road and have for generations. This is not to say that indigenous cultures cannot be greedy, patriarchal or warlike peoples. Some are.

The Red road does not require that you participate in Native American Ceremonies or wear Indian cloths. It is a way of the heart. As soon as enough lights shine, darkness will disappear from Earth.

The Light we have been awaiting for so long is returning! A glorious World is emerging!

We are the people we have been waiting for!
We are the people we have been expecting!

ELDER'S MEDITATION

Oh Great Spirit, keep me awake today. Let me hear the voices of our ancestors...let me hear the voices of the Grandfathers. Because everybody is doing it doesn't make things right. Let me hear the truth today and become a coyote for the people. Give me the courage to be willing to be different. Let me walk straight on the Red Road.

Elder's Meditation of the Day
July 25, 2012

"People need to wake up. They can't hear God's voice if they're asleep."
-- Vernon Cooper, LUMBEE

Black Elk, a Sioux, talks about the hoop of many hoops. He says that above the people is a hoop, a conscience, the total belief of the people. If the hoop is sick, meaning dysfunctional, co-dependent, a lot of alcoholism, family abuse, violence, racism and sexual abuse, the people can get used to this and think this is normal. In other words, the people are asleep. If we have left the spiritual way of life, the people are asleep. If we are giving our power to another entity, the people are asleep. In most tribes, there are Coyote Clans. The job of the Coyote Clan People is to wake the people up. They need to become a nuisance and irritate the people. We must return to the spiritual walk.

Walking The Red Road

Native American art of Grandmother Moon wheel
