Soul loss of black americans.

"How did Black Americans go from aspiring to excellence to glorifying debased and otherwise degrading behavior?" is a good question someone asked. It deserves a thoughtful response, and a nod in the direction of the right answer(s).

In a word: soul loss.

For the most part it is a question asked just to be asking. Healers at the deeper levels know most are not committed to excellence because freedom is attached to that goal! More to the point: any group who fights hard to call themselves niggers will be just that! And niggers ain't free, and niggers don't like aspirations above nigger shit!

 

This is the consciousness of death beat upon the drums Blacks no longer use properly!

 

And then moments come, and there are gatherings of a class of Black Americans, like Cécile Charles who embody what their ancestors came from and learned to survive with from their complex spirituality deeply connected to the urge to excel far beyond mere survival.

A Riddle to Resistance

An historical note: I refrain from referring to Blacks prior to the 1990's as 'African American'. That term was resisted vehemently by all concerned prior to that decade. Referring to them thus implies to the naïve that Blacks, or Coloreds were citizens with a basis of pride of heritage that was not fashionable as many like to fantasize about today.

In the social climate of the 21st century the fundamental and the variety of questions to freedom from the perspective of people bound to the nature of being ghetto, and retaining the status of being 'niggers' makes the historical reference to Black folks of our past as African Americans as too far ahead of themselves. You cannot correct the past by renaming it from the present.

On April 20, 1853 Harriet Tubman's task was to free her sister, and her sister's two children, at a terrible cost: her marriage. Her husband was a free man. They lived in southern Maryland, she slave-born, he a free born man. He couldn't take the risk of entering into that affair running the risk of being caught by whites three years after a law that required returning runaways to their owners, or the authorities was passed.

 On this date in 1997, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)called for a formal dictionary revision of the word “nigger.”

The NAACP publicly requested Merriam-Webster to revise its dictionary definition of the word. The Merriam-Webster dictionary's 9th and 10th editions (as well as online) define the word as “a black person... usually taken to be offensive.” NAACP President Kweisi Mfume said that definition “doesn't say, Once used to... describe a black person, a slur.’ It says, A black person.”

He said, “The NAACP finds it objectionable that the Merriam-Webster would use black people as a definition for a racist term.”

The Merriam-Webster dictionary now defines "nigger" this way, in part, as "a black person, usually offensive. . . . a member of any dark-skinned race; a member of a socially disadvantaged class of persons. It now ranks as perhaps the most offensive and inflammatory racial slur in English."

There is a story out about a Black girl who quickly and viciously beat a girl and became an insight celebrity because someone recorded it and posted it online. The police are part of this girl's life because another girl apparently committed suicide as a result of the beating. To date what I've read there are no particulars, but the girl who beat the other girl is letting her 20,000 Twitter followers know about how "... she don't give a fuck!"

No need to comment on this story. It is very much an American pastime and it is deeply embedded in Black culture and applauded.  Only thing that should be done is corrective, but if a people and a person are uninterested in changing or maturing what can you do? If someone wants to die there is little I will do for them. What can you do? To want to die is to want nothing. This girl and millions like her seek nothing, and to seek nothing is to seek death which, is the one thing people like her are typically afraid of, and don't understand in terms, and agreements of relationship.

This is a warrior's stance I am speaking from and the crudeness that celebrates this behavior calls itself a nigger and defends that assertion wholeheartedly  A healer of any race, or tribe and discipline is and will always be baffled by the nigger mentality because it devours itself. There are so many healing tools and healing modalities available to this girl, her family and community and to her people, and niggers, but if not so inclined a healer worthy of his/her craft has no choice but to leave her and them to die unto and within themselves. ~ Gregory E. It is a value system, Sinclair. Reflected in the theology, habits and customs of Americans, and Black American life women and Blacks are assigned different levels of low esteem. Women are not in the upper echelon of privilege in the deeper sense of the meaning of the concept of privilege in society. It was a reoccurring problem during the Civil Rights movement, and it continues until this day the misconceptions and subtle dislike for women. It is a complex dilemma.

The persistent view is the view of women as the daughters of Eve. From this story arises the insistence of Eve's role in the burden upon man, and the fundamental stability in the biting resentment reserved just for women as weaker vessels according to the Hebrew creation story feeds the tendency to call women bitches. The white men who invaded this land, killed and took from the indigenous people built a government and culture with the conviction that women were chattel, Africans not whole people, and Indians had no soul, thus justifying the millions of murders over a very short period of time of Indians throughout the Americas, slavery throughout the Americas, and the secondary status of women deep into the 20th century!.

Despite all the social advances women are the scapegoats of a religious belief, and Black Americans are bound by what they have been taught about who they are, and what they cannot help but call themselves: niggers. Paula Deen we love you!!!

Well, in my neck of the woods (the Washington DC area) I haven't met a Black person who was up in arms about Paula Deen. Traveling down South you can look to the left and to the right and the whole Cracker mentality is as strong as ever. Up north is awful. I don't know which is more dangerous for Blacks, north or south! In race relations you have to find the common ground. What is the common ground ? The common ground is knowing who is who and who you are, and who they are. The big question is: "Who am I alive?" 

Paula Deen never blurred her roots. When I deal with whites from those bloodlines I, or rather we've found common ground. You have to to live together. From common ground a change of heart can change people's worlds and worldview. Standing on polar opposites, arms crossed and scowling with hurt feelings brings no good food to the table!

Now, I cannot recall what Paula Deen said that got her to lose endorsements and her cooking show. But, many of you know why those things happened to her. Like Dog, the Bounty Hunter she charmed the country into believing in the good ol' boy Southern redneck, country style of living and cooking and its mythical swagger that is passed off as authentic Americana! People forgot about the Klan and hanging niggers and how rich whites pitied poor whites against Black folks and justified blowing the tops of mountains off in the Appalachian mountains! Race, slavery, crackerdom and killing in God's name and the name of progress are crucial to understanding American life, and American foreign policy, why the country has a Department of War and why the U.S. of A has been fighting wars since 1945 without a break! 

There is a recent article stirring controversy about two black photographers who greeted Paula Deen one saying, ”We still love you. No matter what happens babe, black people still love you.” His black colleague chimes in, “You’re still welcomed in the hood.” 

Comedian and talk show host, Steve Harvey announced Paula Deen will be working with his Black youth mentoring program. I don't know in what capacity she will assist, but it is a good way to mend brokenness, and begin to melt the ice of the heart. ~ Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 10.10.14

The question that looms large on the horizon isn't obvious to the dull, and those committed to the slow evolution of non-sight in a dynamic and visual world. Centuries after Nefer, or Nefertiti's reign artists today feel free and in their rights to depict her not as an Egyptian woman of her time, but as a woman void of what made her and her people formidable to Europeans. Black Americans not owning their images have no say in the interpretations of their histories in any medium. It is only a small percentage of Blacks, not enough, who do own their images, and thus their minds follow the path of their imagery into the body of their life-work in connection with and to their ancestors. This is natural law, and a law Black Americans have divorced themselves from. Still in the embryonic stage of spiritual and emotional development, and purposefully inattentive to intellectual development the physical masses of black humanity in the US prefers the limited capacity of the child. It is a choice to be infantile. It is a choice to limit perspective and have small influence nationally outside of issues of discrimination, and have no respect globally. The progress from slavery to maturity is slow, and made slower in Black White People's incurable need to suckle the tit of white American's approval.

SPORT of Non-thinking

To all my Washington Football fans, according to history, here is a description of the term 'Redskin' 

"Many claim the term is a particularly egregious racial epithet that represents a bloody era in American history in which Indigenous Americans were hunted, killed, and forcibly removed from their lands by European settlers. The claim often centers around a proclamation against Penobscot Indians in 1755 issued by King George II of Great Britain, known commonly as the Phips Proclamation. 

The proclamation orders, “His Majesty’s subjects to Embrace all opportunities of pursuing, captivating, killing and Destroying all and every of the aforesaid Indians.” The colonial government paid 50 pounds for scalps of males over 12 years, 25 pounds for scalps of women over 12, and 20 pounds for scalps of boys and girls under 12. Twenty-five British pounds sterling in 1755, worth around $9,000 today —a small fortune in those days when an English teacher earned 60 pounds a year. 

However, since the proclamation itself does not use the word redskin, citing it as the origin of "redskin = scalp" has also been called "revisionist history". Explain to me why do you cheer for a team that uses a derogatory term. (Please don't use the answer because I was born in DC). What are you doing to show the Native American people that you care? Are you willing to make a stand or simply go along with the demeaning and degradation of a culture. I've thought a great deal about this subject as an Indian and as an African. Today reading this post I was struck again by language and the tenor of the language. The short answer is cruel. The longer answer requires thought, and a historical perspective.


In the Washington DC area Blacks, for the most part, are submissive to the dictates of Southern White sensibilities, and their devotion to the football team reflects how deeply embedded is the nigger-mentality of slave to master. It is a deep thing, but consistent in the culture of the city. It is easy to point out. I have and I can, but what is the point? Sports fever is devoid of reasonable commitment to high ideals, but filled with facts and statistics and hysteria and fun. Black and White fans have their football team and schools teach that we Indians are extinct. So, why should people rally around changing the name of football teams and mascots around the country? The good news is that young Indians have organized around the country and successfully convinced whole towns to change the names and mascots of their teams. Indians, like other people, do not like being insulted.

The Washington DC football team and the city are Southern-bred. It wasn't until the very early 1990's that Black Americans riding public transportation stopped instinctively sitting in the back of the train or the bus. Blacks will fight you to the death for the right to call themselves niggers, and go ballistic if anyone white, brown, yellow, or red would dare call them a nigger! Sinclair, you and I and others are asking a populace tied to a tradition of bondage to stop calling their football team a name with a horrible stench and stigma to it. It is a noble idea, but fruitless. As long as whites own the images Black folks think are their own images the important shifts of consciousness will not occur, and Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream will remain just that: a dream!

These are my words. In part this my tribute to the 9/11 tributes because a similar mindset is embedded in the American mindset. A Story to be Told

I know in the Black community the more money and education one has the less inclined are they to become socially involved among the lives of poor, and needy Black families, and communities. I think Trayvon Martin's death was empty. Empty, not because his life had no value, because no value was placed on it by action. In death the boy can only expect reaction. Black Americans will always return to the scene of the insult, and the slight and resume where they left off. It is much easier to simmer in rage, and fear than it is to engage the bull by the horns.

Black folks, for the most,  return to Denny's restaurant after receiving 'nigger service'. Black folks buy from designers who are enraged that Blacks have bought their clothes. We will eat the food of people who despise us, and will refer to ourselves as niggers with pride and insist it is an endearing term!

Americans are largely spectators, and crime, court, war, sports, and reality shows are spectator sports Americans love, and participate in in large numbers. I couldn't and would not watch the Zimmerman trail because it was an empty thing to do, and predictable for one simple reason: the social patterns remain unchanged. Nothing would come out of it outside of rage, and fear. Apparently, most people are not spurred by the inconsistencies of public drama to change disturbing patterns within themselves, not even for their children. Most are drawn to the drama, and nothing more. Most Americans seem committed to their lot in life, and dedicated to their fears of each other, and fears of success in their lives, and others. It is such a deep disconnection. Most will not prevent a boy from becoming a killer even when they recognize the tell-tell signs within the boy out of fear. Around Asia and parts of the US there is a belief that Blacks have tails and are ape and monkey folks. Like other myths, the stories lives deep in the lagoons around many a community, and only relationships between peoples will throw back the illusions, and expose each to the other. I feel very deeply that the responsibility to change and undue those perceptions of Black Americans rests squarely upon our shoulders.
