“Every element in every sober or scary
1950's movie had a scene, it seemed, like this. In real life after watching
enough of these movies the feeling of those scenes replaced the natural
tendency to feel the way water feels on a dock and enjoy it. So a lot docks, at
night, go unattended by lovers strolling and touching each other. Inspiration
by sight and sound of a lonely dock at night has fallen under the illusion of
movie memories. This is a powerful reach back into the
uncatalogued memories I have of solitude, and darkness with its attendant
