IN Tommorrow, Now.

Angaangaq in front of the tomb of John Paul II who opened the way to reconciliation between the Catholic Church and indigenous peoples worldwide. May 1, 2018. photo by Adelgunde Müller
Angaangaq met him personally in 1979.

In the years I have been a Sirmiq Aattuq Wisdom Keeper, it has not been lost on me the resistance of Americans to evolve beyond the diametric perceptions of race based philosophies and lifestyles between Blacks and whites, and whites and the other peoples of the world. The Trump administration expresses this determination. Whether it is self-destructive, or not is of no concern to those people, and their president, who is loyal to these ideals, and faithful to what does not serve the common good, doesn't give a hot damn about consequences. He is very much the white American man.

The end of that is nigh. How will you, we and I prepare for this eventuality?

It is too late, but listen anyway!

In the depth of American life is the ignorance of a people void of understanding how we live in relationship to the other peoples of the world. In our lives we are not introduced to spirit because the great pride of the country is the separation of the parts that come from and belong to the whole. Of wholeness is the possibility of anything within everything. This profound ignorance kills taking the life out of other's lives the way we live as if nothing else matters but what we want to dream about.

MELTING THE ICE IN THE HEARTS OF MEN

African couple in white cloth.
"There is something natural and innate that makes lines, and draws circles. Every creature finds a way to designate its own space in the vastness we live in. It is the intellectual properties of people that has the capacity to disassociate itself, and live in the pretense of not being connected. It is an option we have. With all of life we can make our self a part of the main stream of consciousness, or we can travel a road to alienation.

What the White People did in the world was baffling and outside of the laws of nature the way they moved through people's worlds, and land and lives. At this point in time and history our task is to restore as a body the touch that connects us with each other and the space we live upon and call Earth, our Mother.

These are my words." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 5.22.14

WISDOM OF ICE

Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq

You question the concepts that come to you on the fly from numerous commercials, ads, and print media, if your mind is trained. If not concepts cling like so many wet mosquitoes to your body of knowledge, and you are covered with incomprehension begging for relief like a  helpless child-person. It is not the way of an adult to be characterized thus, but many are content with this condition.

I only say this because it takes clarity to grasp the simplicity of what Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq's mother shared with him about melting the ice in the hearts of men. Clarity brings light as well as enlightenment from one direction in a Medicine Wheel teaching, and makes visible Power(s) in the corresponding direction.

Amongst true healers, and keepers of particular Medicines and Powers of Being it is easy enough a task to unmask, embrace and embody the spiritual responsibilities of melting the ice. But, how does the depth and the simplicity of the message translate into the mundane language and worlds of the many?

It is our task to answer that. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 5.20.14

Elder Stories

Angaangaq and Middle of the Sky Woman's mother

Spider Woman~ ACHOMAWI

Spider Woman's web hung white with frost. Her sixty little spider children shivered as they slept. Snow had fallen every day for months. All the animals were cold, hungry, and frightened. Food supplies were almost gone. No one knew what to do. Blue Jay and Redheaded Woodpecker sang and danced for Silver Gray Fox, who floats above the clouds. Since Silver Gray Fox, the creator, had made the whole world with a song and a dance, Blue Jay and Woodpecker hoped to be answered with blue skies. But the snow kept falling.

Finally the animals decided to ask Coyote. "Coyote's been around a long time, almost since the beginning. He might know how to reach Silver Gray Fox." They went to the cave where Coyote was sleeping, told him their troubles, and asked for help. "Grrrrowwwlll...go away," grumbled Coyote, "and let me think." Coyote stuck his head into the cold air outside and thought till he caught an idea. He tried singing in little yelps and loud yowls to Silver Gray Fox. Coyote sang and sang, but Silver Gray Fox didn't listen, or didn't want to. After all, it was Coyote's mischief-making when the world was new that had caused Silver Gray Fox to go away beyond the clouds in the first place.

Coyote thought he'd better think some more. Suddenly he saw Spider Woman swinging down on a silky thread from the top of the tallest tree in the forest. "Spider Woman's been on Earth a long, long time," Coyote thought. "She's very wise. I'll ask her what to do." Coyote loped over to the tree and lifted his ears to Spider Woman. "Spider Woman, O wise weaver, O clever one," called Coyote in his sweetest voice, "we're all cold and hungry. Everyone's afraid this winter will never end. Silver Gray Fox doesn't seem to notice. Can you help?" Spider Woman swayed her shining black body back and forth, back and forth, thinking and thinking, thinking and thinking.

Her eight black eyes sparkled when she spoke, "I know how to reach Silver Gray Fox, Coyote, but I'm not the one for the work. Everyone will have to help. You'll need my two youngest children, too. They're little and light as dandelion fluff, and the fastest spinners in my web." Spider Woman called up to her two littlest ones. Spinnnnnn! Spinnnnnn! They came down fast, each spinning on eight little legs, fine, black twin Spider Boys, full of curiosity and fun. Spider Woman said, "My dear little quick ones, are you ready for a great adventure?" "Yes! Yes!" they cried. "We're ready!"

Spider Woman told them her plan, and the Spider Boys set off with Coyote in the snow. They hadn't gone far when they met two White-Footed Mouse Brothers rooting around for seeds to eat. Coyote told them Spider Woman's plan. "Will you help?" he asked. "Yes! Yes! We'll help!" they squeaked, and they all traveled the trail towards Mount Shasta until they met Weasel Man looking hungry and even thinner than usual.

Coyote told Weasel Man his plan. "Will you help?" asked Coyote. "Of course," rasped Weasel Man, joining them on the trail. Before long they came across Red Fox Woman swishing her big fluffy tail through the bushes. "Will you help?" asked "Of course, I'll come," crooned Red Fox Woman. Then Rabbit Woman poked her head out of her hole. "I'll come too," she sneezed, shivering despite her thick fur.

Meadowlark wrapped a winter shawl around her wings, and trudged after the others along the trail to the top of Mount Shasta. The snow had stopped, but the sky was still cloudy. On top of Mount Shasta, Coyote barked, "Will our two best archers step forward?" The two White Footed Mouse Brothers proudly lifted their bows.

"Everyone listen," barked Coyote. "If any one of us is only half-hearted, Spider Woman’s plan will fail. To get through the clouds to Silver Gray Fox, we must each share our powers whole-heartedly, our thoughts, our dreams, our strength, and our songs. Now, you White-Footed Mouse Brothers, I want you to shoot arrows at exactly the same spot in the sky."
Turning to the others, Coyote said, "Spider Boys, start spinning spider silk as fast as you can. Weasel ManWhite- Footed Mouse Brothers, Red Fox Woman, Rabbit Woman, and I will sing and make music. We must sing with all our might or the Spider Boys won't make it." "One!" called Coyote. Everyone got ready. "Two!" The animals drew in deep breaths. The Mouse Brothers pulled back their bowstrings.

"Three!" Two arrows shot straight up and stuck at the same spot in the clouds.

"Whiff wiff! Wiff wiff!" sang the White Footed Mouse Brothers. "Yiyipyipla!" sang Red Fox Woman.

"Wowooooolll!" sang Coyote. Rabbit Woman shook her magic rattle. Weasel Man beat his very old and worn elk-hide drum. The Spider Boys hurled out long lines of spider silk, weaving swiftly with all their legs. The animals sang up a whirlwind of sound to lift the spider silk until it caught on the arrows in the clouds. Then the Spider Twins scurried up the lines of silk and scrambled through the opening.

All the while, down below, the animals continued singing, rattling and drumming. The little Spiders sank, breathless, onto the clouds. Silver Gray Fox spied them and called out, "What are you two doing here?" The Spider Boys bent low on their little legs and answered, "O Silver Gray Fox, we bring greetings from our mother, Spider Woman, and all the creatures of the world below. We've come to ask if you'd please let the sun shine again. The whole world is cold. Everyone is hungry. Everyone is afraid spring will not return, ever."

They were so sincere and polite that Silver Gray Fox became gentler, and asked, "How did you two get up here?" The Spider Boys said "Listen, can you hear the people singing? Can you hear the drum and rattle?" Silver Gray Fox heard the drum and rattle and the people singing. When the Spider Boys finished telling their story, Silver Gray Fox was pleased. "I'm happy when creatures use their powers together. I'm especially glad to hear Coyote's been helping too. Your mother, Spider Woman, made a good plan. To reward all your hard work, I'll create a sign to show that the skies will clear. And you two may help.

"First picture the sun shining bright," called Silver Gray Fox. The Spider Boys thought hard and saw the sun sending out fiery rays in all directions. "Now, where sunrays meet the damp air," sang Silver Gray Fox, Picture a stripe of red, Red as Woodpecker's head, add a stripe nearby of bluest Blue Jay blue. The Spider Boys thought hard, and great stripes appeared of red and blue. Silver Gray Fox chanted. Now in between, add stripes of orange, yellow and green! The Spider Boys thought hard. Then, dazzling their eyes, a beautiful bright arc of colors curved across the whole sky above the clouds. It was the very first rainbow.

Meanwhile, down below, beneath the clouds, the animals and people were so cold, hungry, and tired that they had stopped singing and drumming. Spider Woman missed her two youngest children. Each day she missed them more. She blamed Coyote for the trouble. So did the other animals. Coyote slipped away silent, lonely and sad. Above, on the clouds, the Twins rested. Their legs ached and their minds were tired.

Silver Gray Fox said, "You did what I asked and kept it secret. That's very difficult, so I'm giving you a special reward. On wet mornings, when the sun starts to shine, you'll see what I mean." Then the Spider Boys spun down to Earth, and ran back to their mother as fast as they could. Spider Woman cried for joy and wrapped all her legs around her two littlest children. Their fifty-eight sisters and brothers jumped up and down with happiness. All the animals gathered around to hear the Spiders story. When they finished, the Spider Boys cried, "Look up!" Everyone looked up. The clouds had drifted apart. There, bridging sky to earth in a radiant arch was the very first rainbow.

Sun began to warm the earth. Shoots of grass pushed up through the melting snow. Meadowlark blew her silver whistle of spring across the valley, calling streams and rivers awake. Coyote came out of hiding, raced to a distant hilltop, and gave a long, long howl of joy. The animals held a great feast to honor the rainbow, Silver Gray Fox, Spider Woman, the Spider Twins, Coyote, and the hard work everyone had done together.

To this day, after the rain, when the sun comes out, dewdrops on spider webs shine with tiny rainbows. This is the spiders' special reward. You can see for yourself.

From the Roots to the Light

Emmanuelle Vaugier

My Creative Nature Is My Magic Wand

Did you know you have an invisible magic wand? It is also known as creativity. The power of your creativity can and will transform all darkness into light. It is powerful enough to birth a new life out of what may appear dead. Give birth to a business opportunity. Inspire hope in those who are hopeless. Your creative nature is your true identity. The more you believe in it and use it, the more good you get to create in the world. Your creative nature is fluid. It is pliable and full of possibilities. Whenever you find yourself in what may seem like an unpleasant situation, tap in and pull out your magic wand and transform it.

I am creative, and I create every day with ease and grace. My creative nature keeps me alive and vibrant. To change my circumstances I trust in the power of the Word in me that was with God in the beginning. I commit to expressing my creativity in fun and playful ways. I tap into the power of creativity and transform limited thinking to expansive thinking. New possibilities are being birthed through me. Thank you, Power- in me, through me, as me, around me, through the Christ within. And so it is.
"Truly I say to you, 'Whoever should say to this mountain, Be moved and fall into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart...it will be done to him.' " St. Mark 11:23

WISDOM KEEPER

When I first joined the Wisdom Keeper Circle I never thought I'd be struck by so poignant a moment captured in an image that would have troubled me many years ago that feels beautiful today to me as an older man who learned to have new relations with people distant from my heart...

Sight, renewed sight, is one of the benefits of the work I gleaned in  Angaangaq's circles, and utilize in my own circles. I am that circle expanded from  Angaangaq's  circles where I learned how to do ceremony with white people until I could say from my heart, “You are my relative. I love you.” It is a powerful thing to become vulnerable around and with strangers healing themselves and each other in environments unfamiliar, but it is worth the risk to stand on the cusp between life and death and declare intentions, and act upon them, and become better at being who you are! ©Gregory E. Elders' Talk

Angaangaq, Elder, Sirmiq Aattuq Wisdom Keeper teaches that ‘the greatest distance in the existence of man is not from here to there nor from there to here. Nay, the greatest distance in the existence of man is from his mind to his heart. Unless he conquers this distance he can never learn to soar like an eagle, and realize the immensity within.’

The true Thanksgiving story should be the starting point for a deeper telling of the spirit of a people who have kept the spirit of the first Thanksgiving alive, active, and engaged in the taking of, and the killing of my People. This spirit is woven into the fabric of American consciousness with such incredible skill today millions upon millions of Americans challenged cannot see it. It was in Vietnam. It snaked through American foreign policy in Central America during the 1980’s, America’s opium trade in Afganistan, and the uranium mines on native lands in the southwest United States. The laws of the land sing its testimony, and last but not least the invasion of Iraq holds this dark energy as its core value. We cannot escape this truth. We live with it.

How boycotting Thanksgiving will help raise the awareness upon an indifferent, affluent, and fat satisfied populace is beyond me. Myth, and legend are primal needs within the souls of people and nations, and the soul of this nation feeds from its mother’s breast. Her milk stirs loyalty, and contentment. White Americans, and Black Americans are rubbing their bellies, and picking their teeth after dinners across the land. Their eyes roll into the back of their heads. Sleep dulls the senses around a table of well-fed people laughing, and shouting at television sets with either movies, CNN, or a football game on. Mothers, and daughters talk excitedly about getting up at three o’clock in the morning to stand in long lines to catch Black Friday specials. Their children run off to listen to their Ipods, play video games, or talk on their $3oo cellphones, or Twitter mindlessly with the typical dumb look acquired from long hours on phones.

Information runs non-stop today. Most don’t hear my ancestors cries, teachings, or sense their presence. Our songs are in the air but today’s America hears airplanes, and the pop music of Lady GaGa, or Beyoncé Knowles is in the air, and in their ears. Barely stopping for long deep reflection people tend to do as they were taught: look, pause, and move on; get it done, do it now, work, work, work. Americans are trained to concentrate thought into seven minute intervals interrupted with three to four minutes of mental playtime while TV commercials run their course. As musicians we notice and talk about how audiences behave as the end of a show approaches. A noticable, and distracting movement ripples through audiences as people get up and leave while we are deep into our music.

“Where are they going? The music hasn’t even stopped!”

They are leaving to be first in line to get ahead of the crowd going home. Onstage we have advantage looking into people’s eyes, and watching their energies shifting within them and around the club, the stadium, or whatever stage we are on. There is often a sudden and internal cutting off and quick robotic turns for the exit doors as the last notes run into the chambers of the soul, and fly upward into the heavens past the airplanes. It’s weird but we try to get us it. I have not gotten use to it because it means something. An insight lives below the surface and it has everything to do with the questions raised by the whole question of boycotting Thanksgiving Day in solidarity with Native Americans. –Gregory E. Woods

FATHERHOOD: the Warrior

asian woman in Stockholm by the Sartorialist

 WARRIOR
"There are two aspects to the Warrior. One is well known and publicized in movies, and stories, and on the streets as bravado, the taking of, etc. We all know this, but what we don't know kills our women. What has been taught is killing the place we come from as men, as the sons of our Mothers, and the Earth, our Mother. The teachings of the Warrior merge with the Priestcraft of Fatherhood in a beautiful and powerful way far beyond the meandering verse of Tupac, Snoop, Jay-Z into the metaphysical domain of Kahlil Gibran, Black Elk, Fools Crow, Lynn Andrews, Angaangaq, the teachings of the Buddha, the Christ, and further beyond form when the spoken word came from the Womb and birthed life forms into Existence, and Mother’s love, and Mother’s Medicine breathed Life into Existence.

Teaching from the great Medicine Wheel teachings requires much from oneself, and a relationship of compromise with the truth of who one actually is!" - Dawn Wolf, Keeper of Stories

SOCIETAL CHANGE: the Elders

Angaangaq with Oona Soleil at the Congress Centrum in Hamburg in 2010

Women's role in future changes

One of the things that the Grandmothers feel is vital for things to change is to re-balance the relationship between the sexes. Being the givers of life and far more connected with the seasons, the Grandmothers see that women are getting into important roles and are going through changes. The Grandmothers suggest that men should take on the roles of women so that this will free women to help the change needed in the world.

Men's role in future changes

During a satellite conference with Bioneers the grandmothers were asked how men could help with their work and global change. The answer, voiced by Maria Alice Campos Freire was to be humble and then one can be receptive. Bernadette Rebienot added with a smile that, "anything is possible." - Carlos Provencio

Angaangaq & his drum

"It's never to late, time is an illusion that soon will be no more.

There are many spirits here in human form ready to bring in the dawn of a new world. Some call us the Rainbow Warriors, others call us, the Seventh Generation, light Workers, ...Chrystal Children, Indigo Children, and now there is a new breed that has just arrived of highly intelligent beings that will bring in technology from a different dimension. As humans, we come from the four corners of the earth. We are all colors and from all tribes. We all have gifts, unique to us, that we were blessed with, and through these gifts, the world will change.

The stars and planets are shifting and changing for this to happen, and energy and beings from higher dimensions are here to exist. We are not alone. All eyes are on the planet earth right now to see how it will all go down. Some are for us, some are against us, never the less they are here.

Angaangaq and many of our elders have opened the doors and portals for many of us, this was necessary for us to wake up. When Angaangaq said" it was to late" this was a coded reminder to help these kids to remember who they are, and why they came here in the first place. The majority of us have taken many bumps and bruise along the way, so we shut down and got lost in our anger and pain. This is a wake up call, not a sign of defeat.

Its never to late because time doesn't exist, there is no past, and there is no future, it is all happening now! We have to be present for this to go down in the book of history as a success for mankind." -Donna Weinheimer, Wisdom Keeper

POLITICS OF BEAUTY

actress, Stacey Dash

African American actresses have risen to heights limited by the vision of a business dependant upon insights of a dominant culture clinging to the tentacles of white supremacy, and a doctrine of entitlement that slowly barters with the notion that women have value and worth beyond the fancy of endless access to the sexual being within every woman. Black Americans did not name the period of the so-called black exploitation movies of the 1970’s. Whites made a last ditched effort to quell the surge of black pride that was foremost upon the consciousness of a people evolving out of the restrictive culture of Jim Crow. Business-wise the image of Black women was slow leaving the controlling personalities of business people who control Hollywood as the genius of the fashion industry was getting hip to the allure of dark skinned women. The features of African women were long the envy, and source of bloody retribution of white women upon African slave women, and men in the hidden chapters of relationship between the two races.

Whole industries were created to attain the “exotic African look”, but the business of beauty, and the business of sales within the movie and fashion industries was searching for ways to hold onto the aesthetic mystery of Black American women without the presence and contributions of Black women, and then along came Science. Science came into the game of race relations with technology that could create African looks on white women, and the years passed as the fashion industry found reasons to let go of the 'ideal' of Black womanhood, and seized upon the enhanced features of white women from Europe and America. The direction of these tendencies nestle within the tentacles of success white Americans have had living off of the paradigms of supremacy, and entitlement, but at what cost?

The cost to their souls has been more than brutal. Many healers have passed down a wisdom to younger healers, and developed the spirit and technique to assist in the developmental process of our white relatives initiation into adulthood. In the medicine wheel teaching from the Man Who Looks Like His Uncle, Angaangaq, the white man, and the elements he is composed of speaks of their spiritual responsibility to bring people together. They have done that but at what cost to the souls of all mankind affected by the approach and life way of the European? That is too large of a question to answer in so narrow a space, but as we plunge deeper into the "war with no end" perhaps Americans will gain a little of the old wisdom and listen to the Peace Keeper from the Iroquois nation, and become adults in the Human Family.
