Simple Moments

"Moonrise"

Christmas Night, 2015

After shooting photos through sunset at Watson Lake, I decided to stick around, despite the freezing cold, and see if long-exposure photos at night would turn out anything good.

My hands were almost completely numb from the cold, as I had to take them out of ski gloves any time I wanted to adjust my camera's settings.

As I shot various photos, I noticed some brightness on the horizon. "Rats, those stupid city lights are going to ruin my photos" I thought. But, the lights kept getting brighter, and brighter... until I realized those were no city lights. It was the rising moon! Shortly after the moon rose over the horizon I captured this photo of Watson lake. ~ Vern Jensen, photographer 2/05/2016

women's FEAR of POWER!

"Western women have a long history of denying who they are, and underplaying and not developing their spiritual selves! It is a long painful story this state of being on guard against themselves!" - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories [9/7/17]

Authentic Self

Debra Robinson in power (2014)

To be remembered:

"working with the Goddess Isis since the last full moon has been amazing. she has reminded me of how important it is to not deny certain aspects of ourselves, but to honor all our parts even those we wish to hide or not face. sometimes we are so programed in our society to hide or deny certain parts of ourselves because we fear being judged or not liked. clearly the time is now to embrace who we are and love who we are all our parts so we can carry that love wherever we go."

RED on BROWN

Tiara Kristine in red cloth (Aug. 2014)

"The color Red is specific and personally meaningful representing many different things for me at this time in my life. Phoenix Rising, Alchemy, Fire, etc. This fabric is soft, beautiful and drapes so well over the body that I knew I couldn’t just do one look in it. So from there on out I would bring it with me to all my shoots and use those same 2 yards of fabric to create it into something different."

The virtue: PATIENCE

farm house Capanno nei campi in a storm.

Patience does not mean to passively endure. It means to be farsighted enough to trust the end result of a process. It means to look at the thorn and see the rose, to look at the night and see the dawn. Impatience means to be shortsighted as to not be able to see the outcome. The lovers of God never runs out of patience, for they know that time is needed for the crescent moon to become full.” - Rumi

NOTICE

Man's body of elements & energies

Uranus and Pluto's Transformation Timetable:
Sept. 19, 2012 Square Forces Issues Around Virgo, Health

The current cycle began on October 9, 1965, when Uranus and Pluto reached the same degree in Virgo, creating a relationship called a conjunction. They formed two more exact conjunctions in April and June 1966.

These planets' explosive fusion demanded change and began a new era centered around Virgo themes of health, purity, independence, pets, service, jobs, daily routine, practicality, food, and the connections between mind and body. Many developments since the mid-1960s have expressed Virgo's changeable, "end of a season" energy by helping us clear out the old to make way for the new.

Several changes have addressed this health-conscious sign's earthy preoccupation with the body. On the material plane, we have seen obsession (Pluto) and fads or sudden changes (Uranus) in diet, exercise, food, and the medical industry. On the spiritual plane, we have seen great evolution (Pluto) in human understanding of the links among mind, body, and spirit as well as tremendous interest in meditation and alternate (Uranus) approaches to health and wellness.

When the second Uranus-Pluto square occurs on September 19, the Sun will be in Virgo, which will shine a light on all things associated with this sign and bring our attention to what we seeded in the mid-1960s. It also will push us to evaluate what has worked, what has become oppressive (Pluto), and what must change (Uranus) to fulfill the ideals of purity and perfection we aspired to in the mid-1960s.

Balance harshness with caring, compassion

The Sun's placement in Virgo will give us the sharp eye for details and deep analytical skills needed to see clearly, while Uranus retrograde in Aries inspires us with courage to go within and face our truth and Pluto in Capricorn gives us the strength to make difficult, long-term changes built on integrity. These signs can be harsh, however: Virgo's ability to spot flaws can become relentless self-criticism and even chronic self-hatred, Aries's swift action can be self-absorbed and heedless of having to consider others' needs, and Capricorn's persistence and ambition can become joyless workaholism and even cynical materialism.

To counter these tendencies, draw on emotions, intuition, and deep spiritual values to support holistic, balanced change. The first Uranus-Pluto square on June 24 occurred when the Sun was in Cancer, a watery, sensitive, emotional sign associated with mothers, women, and children. We can use these qualities to set a caring tone for the entire Uranus-Pluto process: remember Cancer's nurturing qualities and take extremely good care of yourself during this challenging time. Also, be sure to extend compassion not only to yourself but to others, who are enduring their share of challenges at this time.

Cancer's association with food also reminds us to restore balance in all areas related to health and nourishment. Virgo's influence has helped many people realize the importance of pure food and drink and a healthy body, but in excess this energy has produced a culture of criticism and judgment, an era of "food police" and petty moralizing that rates foods as "good" or "bad," and a tendency to idealize impossible standards of beauty and austere obsession with exercise.

That makes this a powerful time to evaluate our relationship to food and exercise and heal any judgment or other negativity so we can restore reverence for the human body as the earthly temple for the eternal soul. Virgo's emphasis on details and desire for perfection can make us forget the true purpose of health: to enable us to feel happy and well in order to pursue our spiritual evolution and assist others through service (Virgo).

Support mental health

Despite being an earth sign, Virgo is strongly mentally focused because of its ruler, airy Mercury. As a result, this second Uranus-Pluto square offers a good time to assess our mental health. Ubiquitous technology, widespread noise pollution, loss of open space and connection to nature, and a 24/7 culture have placed extreme pressure on the human nervous system. A poor economy has added to this pressure, forcing many people to overwork without proper rest or vacation just to survive.

Given these challenges, many people already are experiencing classic Virgo symptoms of imbalance via chronic worry and stress; these are increasing the Virgo tendency to perfectionism, self-criticism, and martyrdom. Without relief, those affected may experience a racing mind, insomnia, self-neglect, and serious illness. These conditions may lead to depression, dependence on medication to get through the day, or even addictions of all kinds in a desperate attempt to cope. Yet the same nervous sensitivity that causes us to feel stresses acutely can help us gain the clarity we need to recognize imbalance and take steps toward healing.

Restore balance by recalling ideals

As you experience the Sun's journey through Virgo this year (which continues through September 22) as well as the September 19 Uranus-Pluto square, take time to notice what happens and how it affects you. Also notice how you feel and what you need to assure your comfort during this difficult time. You may find it helpful to spend time alone in nature to help nurture yourself and reconnect with the Earth's life-giving essence.

Use Virgo's sharp analysis to see all that's gone wrong. Then ask yourself what you need to improve your situation. How can you achieve balance in your diet as well as your thoughts and environment? What can you eliminate to help restore health?

Then remember Virgo's ideals and imagine how you might achieve them. For example, how do you define perfect health? What can you do now to begin moving toward that ideal? How does purity fit into your life? How can you cleanse and purify all aspects of your life to support perfect health and balance?

As you undergo this deep and healing process, may the hope of renewal remain in your heart, and may the social ideals seeded so long ago begin to flower at a higher, more caring level.

Personal Moon Story

The Ceremonial Moon:

Beating drums echoed throughout the village at full blast. The sound became the slightest echo as me and him ran further away from the site to find adventure with the cursed grins of a Bob Cat on our faces. We were spontaneous, aren't new lovers naturally are? We heard the twigs breaks and leaves crunch beneath our feet as we ran further into the dark valley. Tonight we would meet in the light of a full moon. Deer's, elk and birds moved anxiously out of our path as they heard the frantic movement of our feet and over worked lungs as we panted with excitement and giggles. Although we had no light until dawn, our heart's somehow knew the path as familiar and we followed almost indefinitely. I was followed by his hand, he held tight to my wrist as his soul lead mine further into the darkness beyond the outer-limits of my safety zone, I only kept up for I would not slow down nor let go.

The smell of Dog Wood and shrubbery enhanced our senses as the icy cold breeze soothed our perspiration. The spirit of the wind whistled in our ears as we picked up speed from the bursts of adrenaline we endured while knowing we had almost made it to the peak of our destination. We had finally arrived , the mountain was covered by snow as soft as cotton, we then threw ourselfs into the land. We chuckled in between gasps of air and laid head to head as that of a compass, my body pointing south, his body pointing north laying across the cold haven. We stared up at the dark ocean blue skies with wonder and amazement with the gaze of two newborn children. The light of the moon waited until we had calmed, then she blessed us with her true beauty. What beauty she was, tonight she had the glow of 5,000 stars as seemed to perform for us when in actuality, it was our minds still moving vividly.

I closed my eyes as small snowflakes stuck to my reddened cheeks only to sting them passionately, I then opened them in time enough to see my companion's face facing mine. His rounded dark brown eyes danced as the moonlight only defined them more and exposed his pure beauty as that of the moon's. He took the longest feather intertwined in his hair out and then tucked it behind my right ear. Although our surroundings were frosted, his hands were as if they had toasted by the fire back at the Pow Wow in the village recently. I slowly nudged my neck and shoulders towards his, he then rested his hand on my cheek and leaned towards my face. We kissed, all that was cold melted around me in my own imagination, his lips were fevered with passion and warmth. We joined as one that night, under the moon, between the earth and sky, under the deepest love spell you could only imagine. Jade SwiftHeart Margarita

a MEDICINE STORY from above

Moon Girl

“It was a lonely task emerging from the image of the moon to see the effects of the moon upon Earth's waters. Seeing where the voices came from reacting to and singing to the pull of the moon's lines with the cords at the center of the Earth's core. From one womb to the other the tautness, and the looseness produced tensions and restraint in the harmonies they sang…” – Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 12.9.12

2013 - The Year of The Sacred Feminine

mysterious energies of Shriya Saran
My New Year's resolution starts a month late. I want to blog with some regularity. Am I going to be able to maintain a once-a-week commitment? I have had time to consider it carefully as the year 2013 begins. Once again, the doomsday prophets misunderstood— the world did not end on Dec 21, 2012— the new era began as in our journey towards conscious evolution as we become, in Barbara Marx Hubbard's terms, 'homo universalis.'

Why 2013 as the year of the Sacred Feminine? ‘Triskaidekaphobia’ (the fear of the number 13) is why many high-rise buildings and hotels go straight from 12 to 14. There are 13 lunar and menstrual cycles in a calendar year; the moon travels 131 degrees in the sky every 24 hours. Physically, emotionally and intuitively, women are linked to the moon.

To the patriarchal mindset the number 13 represented femininity. Just as any new age tries to differentiate itself from past eras, considering the number 13 unlucky can been seen as part of the patriarchal suppression of the lunar calendar in favor of the solar cycle. Time to change that belief as we move forward. As we see the values of the Sacred Feminine begin to influence American society, we celebrate society finding ways of leveling the playing field of all members of our human family as an example to all — same sex marriage is becoming accepted by a majority of people, more women are being voted into office, we are starting to look at the utter stupidity of allowing the public access to assault weapons and their murderous clips. The majority of Americans are beginning to realize that women are autonomous beings and need to be in charge of decisions about their own bodies. Climate change, eradicating pollution, finding alternatives to nuclear energy— it seems everything is entering our field of awareness, begging for solutions that will benefit ourselves, our planet and the generations that are yet to come.

Just as I welcome 2013 and the new age, I welcome your comments on ways in which you see evidence of the rise of the Sacred Feminine in our journey to conscious evolution. by

MOON TALK

"The hunger teaches us to conserve our energy and prepare for the kind of hunt that requires special tenacity and dedication. February's full moon is my favorite because there is a sense that nothing is farther from its goal than it is in that moment - still it shines, knowing who it is, how to tell its story and how to mirror that Light and Fire we crave as Spring takes root in our hearts. So, in a sense, this moon says, 'Empty is receptive and only when we starve for warmth can we see how important the Source really is...' This moon shows us how the hunger is the teacher." - Turtle Whisperer (Gail Dickert) 2.26.13
Moon full in the darkening sky
by Santee Featherarms
I left my favorite cigar store last night with a borrowed cell phone and $10 cigar. I was on the phone in a conference call about matters of life and death. As I stood still on the street I felt a pull I couldn't feel inside of the store. I stepped back in listening to my brother's deliberations. The feel lessened.

Later outside in a park my head and body felt ascension, and I looked up from the conversation into the full head of the Moon. As you, or anyone knows the Moon doesn't give you many words, but she says something to you. If receptive she can add to the conversations about life and death with assurances a human touch cannot convey. Between the strength of the smoke, the listening ears of my brothers, the stillness of the night in DC, and the quiet assurances the ground gave I feel I was able to peer deeply into the issues at hand. I was open to possibilities and receptive to truths. - Dawn Wolf,  Keeper of Stories

MOON CEREMONIES

about MOON Ceremonies

Ceremonies were the ancient seasonal round of ceremonies practiced during ancient times by the Ah-ni-yv-wi-ya or Cherokee People in the ancient culture. Although a modern calendar year comprises 12 months, there are actually 13 cycles or phases of the moon each year. The seasonal round of ceremonies was based on 13 moons, and was considered a necessary spiritual element for growth and encouraged social gatherings among the Cherokee Clans and Cherokee Society in the ancient culture.
The Ah-ni-yv-wi-ya believed the number 13 was significant. Not only did this number correspond to the lunar cycles of the year, but by a startling coincidence, all species of turtles living in the ancient homeland (in fact, all species turtles in the world) always had 13 scales on the back of their shells. As a result, Cherokee culture associated the spaces on the back of the turtle with the 13 yearly phases of the moon. These phases have shifted over time and do not fall within the 12 month year calendar year precisely every year; therefore Ripe Corn Ceremonies (now called the Green Corn Dances or the Green Corn Ceremony in Modern Times – Ah-ga-we-la Se-lu-ut-si/old woman corn mother) fall in early September as of 2005.

Customary and Traditional Events Associated With The Moons
JANUARY: Cold Moon, Unolvtani, This time of the season is a time for personal and ritual observance, fasting and personal purification. During this season, families prepare for the coming of the new seasons, starting in Windy Moon Anvyi or March. Personal items and tools for planting are repaired, and new ones made. Stories about ancestors and the family are imparted to the younger ones by the elders. A mid-Winter or “Cold Moon Dance” is usually held in the community as well, marking the passing or ending of one cycle of seasons and welcoming the beginning of the new cycle. Hearth fires are put out and new ones made. The putting out of Fires and lighting of new ones anciently is the duty of certain holy men of certain clans, and coincides with the first new-arrival of the morning star in the east.
FEBRUARY: Bony Moon, Kaga’li, Traditional time of personal-family feast for the ones who had departed this world. A family meal is prepared with place(s) set for the departed. This is also a time of fasting and ritual observance. A community dance officiated by a “doctor” Didanawiskawi commonly referred to as a Medicine-person. Connected to this moon is the “Medicine Dance”.
MARCH: Windy Moon, Anvyi, “First New Moon” of the new seasons. Traditional start of the new cycle of planting seasons or Moons. New town council fires are made. The figure used to portray this moon is the historic figure of Kanati, one of the many beings created by the “Apportioner” Unethlana. These “helpers” were variously charged with the control of the life elements of the earth: air/earth/fire/water. Their domains are the sky, earth, stars and the Seven Levels of the universe.
APRIL: Flower Moon, Kawoni, First plants of the season come out at this time. New births are customary within this time frame. The first new medicine and herb plants that taught mankind how to defend against sickness and conjurey come out now. Streams and rivers controlled by the spirit being, “Long Man,” renew their lives. Ritual observances are made to “Long Man” at this time. A dance customary at this season was the “Knee Deep Dance” of the Spring or Water Frog.
MAY: Planting Moon, An(i)sgvti, Families traditionally prepare the fields and sow them with the stored seeds from last season. Corn, beans, squashes, tomatoes, potatoes, yams and sunflowers are some food planted at this time. A dance traditionally done at this time is the “Corn Dance”.
JUNE: Green Corn Moon, Dehaluyi, First signs of the “corn in tassel”, and the emerging of the various plants of the fields. People traditionally begin preparations for the upcoming festivals of the ensuing growing season. People of the AniGadugi Society begin repairs needed on town houses, family homes and generally provide for the needy. The AniGadugi Society is a volunteer help group who see to the needs of the less fortunate, the elderly and the infirm of the villages.
JULY: Ripe Corn Moon, Guyequona, First foods or the new planting and the roasting ears of corn are ready. Towns begin the cycle festivals. Dances and celebrations of thanks to the Earth Mother and the “Apportioner” Unethlana are given. In the old times this was the traditional time of the “Green Corn Dance” or festival. A common reference of this moon is the “first roasting of ears” (of corn)…sweet corn-moon. This is the customary time for commencement of the Stick Ball games traditionally called AniStusti, “Little War”. Today known as “LaCross”. Stick Ball dances and festivals are commonly held at this time.
AUGUST: Fruit Moon, Ga’loni, Foods of the trees and bushes are gathered at this time. The various “Paint Clans” begin to gather many of the herbs and medicines for which they were historically know. Green Corn festivals are commonly held at this time in the present day. The “Wild Potato” Clans AniNudawegi, begin harvesting various foods growing along the streams, marshes, lakes and ponds.
SEPTEMBER: Nut Moon, Dulisdi, The corn harvest referred to as “Ripe Corn Festival” was customarily held in the early part of this moon to acknowledge Selu the spirit of the corn. Selu is thought of as First Woman. The festival respects Mother Earth as well for providing all foods during the growing season. The “Brush Feast Festival” also customarily takes place in this season. All the fruits and nuts of the bushes and trees of the forest were gathered as this time. A wide variety of nuts from the trees went into the nut breads for the various festivals throughout the seasons. Hunting traditionally began in earnest at this time.
OCTOBER: Harvest Moon, Dunin(i)di, Time of traditional “Harvest Festival” Nowatequa when the people give thanks to all the living things of the fields and earth that helped them live, and to the “Apportioner” Unethlana. Cheno i-equa or “Great New Moon” Festival is customarily held at this time. Ritual fasting would be observed seven days prior to the festival.
NOVEMBER: Trading Moon, Nvdadequa, Traditionally a time of trading and barter among different towns and tribes for manufactured goods, produce and goods from hunting. The people traded with other nearby tribes as well as distant tribes, including those of Canada, Middle America and South America. Also the customary time of the “Friendship Festival” Adohuna = “new friends made”. This is also a day of atonement for the Cherokee. Ritual fasting was also observed. This was a time when all transgressions were forgiven, except for murder which traditionally was taken care of according to the law of blood by a clans person of a murdered person. The festival recalls a time before “world selfishness and greed”. This was a time also when the needy among the towns were given whatever they needed to help them through the impending lean winter season.
DECEMBER: Snow Moon, Vsgiyi, The spirit being, “Snow Man”, brings the cold and snow for the earth to cover the high places while the earth rests until the rebirth of the seasons in the Windy Moon Anuyi. Families traditionally were busy putting up and storing goods for the next cycle of seasons. Elders enjoyed teaching and retelling ancient stories of the people to the young.

SACRED STORY: dark insane

by Photokappa

"Emotions live in desolate, empty spaces and in the open grasslands with endless arrays of colors and sequences of events creating more space, and pathways from one state of being to another until we feel we can take in the whole universe and have room for more..." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories

https://www.facebook.com/photoKAPPA
"There were many nights I lived in deep depressions. My sorrow invited nefarious creatures large and small into my dwellings where lived, what I loved, who I loved, what I needed and who needed me to have a full mind. There were children, and children's voices that sounded like mine, but incapable of leaving the dark places I watched TV, sometimes for nine or more hours straight with no chaser, or I would walk for days with a little food on my stomach, and a lot on my mind. Each episode and commercial I watched sealed a timeless message to my soul I could discern, but not read. It was madness I feared, and madness I resisted with the words, and memories of powerful entities I'd known all of my life speaking beyond languages into my being to what I was created for.

The medicinal powers of ancient rituals, songs, and ancestors do leave voices imbued with tested powers to restrain mind darkness. It happened often enough in those dark days, and I lived to tell those stories to the insanity of the times we live in today, and to those near insanity in parks, and churches, and living rooms or standing on streets poised to hurt or kill someone they know not!

"Freedom is on your breath. Freedom is in your mind, on your breath; inhale exhale."  - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories

SACRED SPACE

from the photo galleries of  La Bioguia
CREATING A SAFE SPACE

Some people have a talent
For creating Sacred Space;
Where others feel the comfort,
Natural safety they embrace.
Welcomed by the openness,
Where no judgements reside,
The implicit trust of feeling
In a heart that's opened wide.
This rare living treasure
Is a confidant and friend,
Whose honor is impeccable,
On whose word we can depend.
This person is a Wisdom Keeper
Who defends every Sacred Space,
Through loyalty and acceptance,
The remembered gifts of gentle.

One of the greatest gifts of Wisdom Keeper, the Clan Mother of the Second Moon Cycle, to humankind is the understanding of nonthreatening, safe space. Learning to honor the truth has many ways to teach us about authentic friendship. When we create a safe space for others, we have tapped the Remembering, which teaches us that the external safe space we can create for others reflects our internal safe space, which has eliminated negative judgements. Is it time to look at someone you know who has these gifts and use that person as your role model?

WANING MOON GODDESS

"During the time of the waning moon is the time to rid one's self of negative things, emotions, thoughts, energies, and people. You don't kill the people for those looking for a reason to kill somebody. I ain't saying that in these litigious times. Between the full moon and the dark moon is the time to banish the negative things from one's life." - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories
