Listening to two highly accomplished women talking on national television is captivating. Janice Dickinson is a former supermodel, a business woman, and most importantly has found a way to mentor children into her field of expertise: fashion, and the modeling world. She is alternately cruel, beautiful, insightful, understanding, and unforgiving. Hosting her own show, I imagine, gives her a perspective unlike people who have not engaged in the struggle to live out one's purpose. Living out front large and in charge is a worldview most people will forever remain detached from, and to some degree is unfathomable. Because she sits where I cannot sit I take a long time critizing some aspects of herself she shares with the world. Janice Dickerson was a classical beauty in Europe's sense of the word. That change with all of her plastic enhancements, and the skinny frame that whispers about the time of her real beauty that should now be a deep beauty. She created something from her hard childhood, and answered the demands of a society that craved a thin definition of beauty of a woman whose life-concepts had worn her fingers bloody plunging the depths of becoming, of being a woman, of being in charge of her life.
That being said why would a Janice Dickinson sit with a Chelsea Handler discussing Michelle Obama, and dismissing her rather frivoulously because of her dress style. There is an essence to an African-American woman like Michelle Obama very different to that of other women. Can't say one is better than the other but it is the 'other' within Michelle Obama that is elusive and not easily contained, or divided. Michelle Obama would never lower her standards for the public to see her crotch. What would move so restlessly and dangerously through Janice Dickinson to cause her take pictures of herself in less dignified poses? Michelle Obama lives in the same time with the same contradictions of the time swirling around her. What would these two white woman really be saying to each other? Were they denied something that Michelle Obama would not relinquish control of? - Gregory E. Woods, Dawn Wolf Keeper of Stories
