Assemblage Point of...

Miss Intense

April 18, 2013

What could the water element's surges of power feel like against the thoughts, and the frailness of  a woman's body surfing skillfully along the crest of what she cannot control? Her only control has to be within where she breaths and envisions. That has got to be an indescribable feeling!

Is it humbling, thoughtful and exhilarating at the same time? What could that possibly feel like? Is the presence of the water personified, in that moment, by the stories told to us in our childhood, or does one grow into the stories the water tells us of its life, glories and mysterious powers?

For women, so intimately connected to the water, the rhythms of tide and Moon are they in a state slightly, or obviously different from men? I don't know the answers to any of the questions. They, the answers, have always floated away from me into the oceans I've talked to where I hear the voices of my African ancestors' questioning the fate of their lives. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 5.6.13
