Thai mudmee

Modern silk mudmee fabric. The design of this fabric looks modern and sophisticated. But it's actually a thousand (maybe older) years old.

The "farang" fashion world discovered Thai mudmee fabric a few years ago. The trendiest Italian designers will use Thai mud with their zombie models out on the catwalk at times. Sometimes a hot new Hollywood starlet goes to an award show in mudmee fabric. Mudmee is the newest rage for all the hip fashionistas!

But this very same fabric that fashionistas think is so cool and sophisticated (and it is), has been around for over a millennium  And the woman who weaves the mud (all mudmee must be woven by hand because of the technique), couldn't afford the designer garments made with her fabric.

Quality silk mudmee is not cheap anymore. The finest mudmee fabric is made into tapestries and sold as artwork. It really is textile art. High quality silk mudmee now goes for around $50/yard. The blue mudmee fabric in the posted foto cost me $70/yard and I was in Chonobot.House of Thailand
