Nature of the Beasts

Now, there's something that will never happen in nature: love between the hunted and the hunter. Mutual respect in certain moments deep in the hunt can be interpreted by a sentimental soul, who wishes beyond the scope of reality to believe the hunted can be embraced lovingly by the hunter.

Animals in their natural state do not live by our wishes. They don't enter agreements to make us feel good about ourselves. The lion is a lion. The zebra is a zebra. If they do embrace it is an embrace of death. If the zebra employs a law of survival and gets away the zebra did not become the hunter. The zebra stayed alive to create the illusions he has to confuse the lion on the savannas next time they meet. - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 1.30.15
