The maid was often the Negro in white households. The white, or the French maid wearing barely a short black dress, high heels and showing flesh between top of thigh and bottom became the fantasy, as if no work was done. It, the image, hid a terror Negro maids endured: rape, beatings, low pay, and nearly no access to her own children. This piece of history hides the pain of truth. - Gregory E.
