It is true. Until you know who you are you will always be in chains, but freedom is as evasive as denial is potent and the general makeup of the average Black American.
One of my biggest challenges working in the Black community in my capacity is the non-thinking and the mentality of bondage, of being a 'nigger' that dominates the vernacular of the mind set in motion against itself!
Working with young lives into their teenage years has given me a skill set, insight, and tools. There are workable solutions, but as a collective bondage is the adage of Black culture. The behavior is the mirror of the soul of Black folks disgusted with their Africaness, and the clinging to the hope of being accepted by whites! If this ain't bondage what is bondage and how distant is freedom from the reality of Black Americans? - Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 8.16.16
